Well, The nice thing about the chat system is it sends a log so I have that in my email. I'll give them a couple days to get that update form the supplier and then hit them up again.

Hopefully it all gets sorted :), at least you know the reason why its held up. I hope you got a good deal on your laptop btw! I paid around $2300 US for my spec (less than £1400 UK pounds) its basically the basic spec + 1080p + killer + gtx680m, the rest i will upgrade myself.

Seems like people with order dates in mid october are being into production now.

Ordered mine on 10-18 and it's been in production since order date lol I found it rather strange

    Basic processor
    Radeon 7970m
    1080p
    Killer wireless
    8gb of ram
    1TB of raid 0 memory

    i7-3740QM
    12GB RAM
    AMD 7970M
    1TB RAID 0

I ordered Oct 11, it immediately went to "In Production". EDD is Nov 5 with 2 day shipping - last I heard when I contacted them the base was out of stock and backordered until Oct 31. I'm just hoping they get in tomorrow, because if it doesn't ship out by tomorrow or Wednesday then there's no chance I'll make my EDD. :/

I debated a lot between this one and spending a bit more for the M18x, and chose this one to save a bit of money... if I would have ordered the M18 I would've had it by now, lol.

My one went into production as well (i think your on alienware arena?)
ordered 15th EDD 6th Nov (UK)

My one was held up on the base too, it went into production yesterday, I think the order statuses are slightly different between the UK and the US.

Ahh thought I recognised you haha,

And nope not sure, I know it shouldn't take too long, at least the UK order tracking is pretty precise and will update accordingly, it should actually be in production being built now. I think it takes up to 5 days to be built and tested, the tracking should update as soon as its despatched. You should get your invoice when it leaves the factory, so as soon as you get the invoice it should be getting delivered. Last time I ordered from Dell (refurb last month) it was delivered within 5 days (delayed 1 day due to it being a weekend).

    01/10/12 15:34 xxxxxxxxxx DELIVERED
01/10/12 06:11 BPO - RUNCORN ORDER ON DELIVERY.
29/09/12 05:10 BPO - RUNCORN ORDER COMPLETE IN DEPOT.
29/09/12 05:10 BPO - RUNCORN FIRST BOX SCANNED INTO HUB.
28/09/12 16:27 WWI - HINCKLEY ORDER DISPATCHED FROM HUB.
28/09/12 16:27 WWI - HINCKLEY FIRST BOX SCANNED OUT OF HUB.
28/09/12 16:27 WWI - HINCKLEY ORDER COMPLETE IN HUB.
28/09/12 16:27 WWI - HINCKLEY FIRST BOX SCANNED INTO HUB.
    27/09/12 21:30 PLAN COMMITTED NOTE.
    25/09/12 17:00 EMF DEPARTED MANU.FACILITY

I think it will arrive around the EDD date, maybe a few days late, you never know, but its all ok for the moment anyways.

    Just spoken to the dell customer care - At least in the UK, the following information applies;

    The parts are still "pending" delivery and the lead time for those parts is 3-4 weeks. Due to a backlog, expect 6-9 weeks ontop of your EDD for actual delivery of the M17x. The options they gave me;
    (1) Wait
    (2) Order an M18x instead

Ordered on the 6th October, EDD was the 9th November

Essentially, if you were lucky enough for your order to move to "in production", you got the last of the parts. If your order is "pre-production" expect a wait of up to 9 weeks. When I asked if it would be delivered before Christmas - I was met with a "I cannot say for sure that your order will be delivered before Christmas sir."

They changed status so quickly.I think you will got your in middle of nov..You will se.

Nope - No reduced cost - Full price. Was the first question I asked. They are currently offering me "nothing" for having to wait so long.
I might just cancel and get the Inspiron 17R Special Edition shipped tomorrow instead... However if I have to do that, I wont be ordering with Dell again... Ever...

I ordered mine Oct. 26 with a EDD of Dec. 1. Went into PRODUCTION almost instantly. Weird thing is, today I configured the same m17x specs for fun and it shows EDD of Nov. 26th now almost a week later?? I understand the EDD is an estimate but in this forum's experience how far off does it usually sway from the EDD on average from when it arrives? It would be nice to estimate 5 weeks and deliver in 2 but reading thru this thread I doubt that will happen. Waiting 5 weeks for a computer to be put together seems a little ridiculous. I may end up cancelling and ordering thru a reseller who can get the computer to me by the end of the week or even a different vendor.

Nov 26th is probably the ship date, you wont get and EDD until you place the order.

So my rep at Hidevolution (reseller)... Said that they should be shipping it out by the end of the week :D a.k.a Friday which is tomorrow woohooo! It'll have been a 2 month wait thanks to Dell -.-

My order status finally went from Pending to Processing, and they are expediting my order due to the delay! :D A while before my rep said shipping should take about 3 days! I am MEGA pumped xD here in less than a week guaranteed :)

Yes but the issue is (for me) they cancelled my order due to their error. The order went through with the wrong PSU, when I contacted them to ask if my order was OK I was told that the order was fine, then 5 days later, 10 days after my order date, the order was cancelled and created again by them. If it wasnt for thir c*&k up I would have my laptop by now.

Its only UK orders that are being affected.

    EDIT:

    This is interesting:

Although it does not show this on the M17x I'm guessing the GPU's are the same.

Cancel an Alienware for an Inspiron? xD xD

If it makes you feel better, my situation is this. I was trying to place my order for a week, with problems charging the bank account. Payment was successfully made on September 16. I will be receiving my M17x in about a week, pretty much 2 months waiting time.

Just be patient and it'll come eventually :p you won't regret it. Just keep yourself busy ;)

Over the years it's become standard practice to dump all the oem's bloatware and start with a clean, known, installation. This AW I got was probably the first that never needed it IMO :). Didn't even have a trialware firewall/AV, although I believe that has gone back in :(

But... Alienwares don't come with Bloatware? There's just the Alien programs or whatever, which I don't mind... so I will just keep it as it is and not go through a hassle.

I'm pretty sure they don't come with antivirus software, which is great. That's the worst xD

You have any recommendations for antivirus software. If I go for free I'd probably roll Avast, paid I would go Kapersky I think  Thoughts?

Why not try microsoft security essentials? Its free and its pretty efficient. Always found avast a bit too clunky in some instances, but I havent used it in years, wasnt a fan of having to renew license every year even though it was a free license.

I went with AVG for years (free) but I did like MS's early offering that they dumped - can't remember what it was called. Right now I just use MS security essentials for AV/malware. Gets updated daily and the way I look at it, if there is a big one that gets through then MS has the resources to fix it quickly :).

As for firewall I use ZoneAlarm. Free version is just great, but if you want AV as well it's a subscription. I like the way it blocks everything asking me to authorise and build up a list. A pain at the start but I've seen port scans running against my IP so I feel better for using it.

Oh haha I meant to write that :p I will be getting MSE no doubt, but I'd like to have that extra oomph just in case as I download so much random junk all the time :D especially since I'm switching back from Mac, which has run perfectly for 5 years with no antivirus software :p

Norton was the devil that plagued my youth. But check this out http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2369749,00.

Scroll down to see a big table or antivirus programs. Norton wins hands down :S

But seriously... why are antivirus programs so expensive?

    Thanks for the tips Micky!

For the past few weeks I've been using my work laptop which has ESET Smart Security. I do like the rare notifications I get, makes me feel safe.. so to speak xD

I don't believe without an internet suite, it's a breeding ground for viruses. Just don't be stupid, run regular scans and you'll be fine. So I completely agree with you 100%. First thing I'll do is get MSE + the best free antivirus. AVG/Avira/or Avast.. :)

One more thing I hate about suites.. is performance impact. But these computers are such beast it wouldn't really affect them...

Check this sweet deal on the full Avast suite! :D 50% off, Halloween deal (has 1-month unconditional money-back guarantee, nice)

So these parts delays on this forum are for UK only? I live in Canada, I liked that the order went straight into PRODUCTION, but since this was my first AW was wondering if its normal to expect a 5 week EDD. Any other fellow Canadians on here care to share their delivery times?

I think the UK delays are pretty universal, I think it just shows up on tracking different between the UK and the US/Canada. The UK orders were stuck on 'pre production' (3/5) which is the stage where all parts for the laptop are being gathered rather than 'in produciton' (4/5) which is when its being built and packed. My EDD was 3 weeks, its coming 1 day early according to tracking.

Best to use the order status chat on the dell canada website (its not the same as the sales chat) they should be able to track down which parts are holding the order up.

I live in Canada too, and when I placed the order for my m17x r4, it went straight into production. The EDD is Nov. 29th. Having owned an m11x and m14x before, I have received the laptops at my doorstep in ~10-14 days.

Yeah it should be shipped soon, my EDD was 6th of november, its due to be delivered on the 5th according to tracking. BTW they should be using UPS to delivery your laptop. I guess yours will be shipped 2 days after mine maybe? Should make it on time/ maybe a day early.

Just signed up to join in with this thread...

Ordered: 18th October EDD: 9th November: Status: Pre-production. Location: UK

I had a chat with Dell via the online chat (which took over 2 hours to connect) and was told that the "base, display, LCD back cover and keyboard are on shortage" and that my EDD will definitely be missed. He would not give me even the slightest indication as to when the situation would improve.

Looks like pretty much the same boat as all UK orders on here. Spec doesn't seem to matter much but mine's a 680M \ 3630QM \ 8GB \ 500GB standard HD (with an aftermarket SSD to be added immediately).

To all those people that ordered and it went straight into production, it's more than likely a lie. My order has supposedly been in production since I ordered over two weeks ago; however, it the order went into production officially today. Only ten more days supposedly :)

I got the same spec as you pretty much (6gb ram instead of 8) Ordering from the UK too. I ordered 15th october and it is on track to be delivered on the 5th nov (edd is 6th nov) its been shipped at the moment. You never know, your might be on time as well, I think the extreme delays were after the 20th october approximately.
Ahh, so lucky we ordered when we did. Hopefuly yours is just behind mine, will be shipped soon, probably on the weekend I think.
Yeah I think the order statuses between the UK/US/Canada etc are all not the same. As long as you know its officially in production, mine was in production (not pre production) for about 2-3 days then shipped.

Looks like I ordered just on the wrong side to hit the delays. Still in pre-production with exactly 1 week to go until EDD.

Not sure I can be bothered to wait 2 hours to speak to online chat again today - will ask again on Monday.

Yeah mine took about 12-24 hours to track properly, takes a while to go onto their tracking system. Shouldn't be too far behind mine. Took about a day or so to show me the estimated date of delivery.

Local mail order laws will apply, Dell generally give you 2 weeks to return a product for any reason - UK law is 7 working days from receipt but I returned one after discovering a problem a couple of weeks in. If there is a problem they cannot charge you a 'restocking' fee either. Enjoy :)
