M17x Order Status Discussion - Part 4

Registered to the forum today. I ordered my M17x R4 on Oct 25 using a Dell preferred account, it went into production immediately once payment was cleared. EDD of Nov 23 with free 2 day shipping though, expected to get it faster since it went into production pretty much immediately

 

We have the same delivery date haha. I only have gotten one from dell outlet it was a aurora r4 so I can't really say much. I think you have 2 weeks or so to return the item so you should have plenty of time to check for any issues. Software its already pretty clean, only peace of annoying software on my aurora was the roxio cd creator stuff and mcaffee antivirus, but you can get rid of them pretty easilly. I'd recommend you make your alienware respawn discs as soon as possible just in case. As long as the box hasnt got a huge hole it should be fine. I thinkk ups box it in another brown box but im not 100% sure.

Yes, "box-in-a-box"..I saw people when "unboxing" their m17 on youtube.
If everthying going ok..will install fresh copy of windows on ssd, and will keep 1tb disc for data only.I ordered 1 tb with 5400 rpm.

 

well been a while since i posted around here but ive had to make a new purchase, am buying a new m17x as my old one (R1) is fried now. dont have lots of money so the system is base except upgrading the panel to 1920x1080 and video card to 675 nvidia. ordered 10/31/12 and EDD of 11/28/12, i can only hope that it comes sooner. im dying of boredom on my el80 since it cant play any games now. as for order status, my friend placed the order (he has a credit card) and it went into production mid to late evening on 11/1/12, just hope thats a sign of them rushing the build like he asked

 

If possible, since you're getting the 60Hz screen... I would HIGHLY recommend getting the 7970M over the 675M.

 

i should have looking back on it but my preference is for nvidia, have had problems with amd products too often for my preference (same with anything wireless but thats another story) and i dont want to make it take longer or more hassel for my roommate to change the order now, if i thought it might make the order faster then yea id see about doing it but i think the main thing that causes orders to take time is the name plates, this whole ordering a new laptop was quite unexpected really, i was hoping to have my r1 last untill the next refresh came out but i cant wait half a year for a new gaming system

 

I went through the same process and it did the exact same thing - my computer came in exactly one business day before the EDD. So I wouldn't get your hopes too far up.

That said, my computer got here yesterday. Used the $15 upgrade to Windows 8 and it runs smooth as silk. Games run absurdly fast. This laptop is a beast!

£25 in the UK, free if your a student though through Dreamspark (global from what i see), you can get 2 keys for windows 8 if needed.

 

If you buy/have bought a new PC during the last half of 2012, yup, you can get Windows 8 for $15, at least in the US. You just have to have your Windows 7 product key from your new PC.

Yes, all they give you is a windows 8 activation key. Use it on any device you want.

Registered just to contribute. Ordered my Nebula Red M17x R4 on the 31st. EDD is December 3rd.

2GB HD 7970m
12GB RAM
1920x1080 FHD screen
1TB HDD

Order went straight into production, but from what I read, it could be a lie. Going to call up later on today to confirm what's going on. Hopefully the build/delivery time within Canadaland isn't as long as the EDD, I don't even feel like gaming on my desktop anymore for some reason, and it's not exactly a slouch. I think I'm just subconsciously saving myself for the whirlwind of gaming that's going to happen my Alienware. I'm even waiting to play some older games I didn't get a chance to play in the past. I think I'm crazy.

 

Imagine how I felt when I made my payment 2 months ago will arrive this weekend

And I haven't even had a gaming PC before

I think the US/Canada tracking shows in production when its really in 'pre production' (the stage where parts are not in stock and are holding up production). I would expect the EDD as the pretty accurate order status. Looks like the canada website doesnt have the chat online about order status option which is a bit annoying. Could try using the US store chat about order status since they only check the receipt or order number i think.

 

Just got off the line. They spoke of no delays, and confirmed the EDD, however the guy threw in a little "In fact, you may even receive your order before Friday." Now, I know that guy is lying, and maybe it's because I naturally sound like an angry guy, even when I'm being polite. I won't hold on to the notion, though. If I expect the worst, something besides the worst is bound to happen.

 

As the quote goes. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

 

Yeah my edd is the 11-12-2012. I am super excited but I am waiting patiently for I have a job that sometimes works me on the weekends so it's keeping me busy. But I already bought skyrim and guild wars 2 . I took a break from gaming on the pc, so it's going to be all new for me again. Plus I have been wanting an alienware for about 6 years now lol. But I am from the US so I think they put it into production immediately but since there was a shortage in parts I am assuming they just had it waiting til those certain parts came in to finish it. I am just hoping to have it in before the weekend

 

not very happy that there might be parts delays that arent being disclosed but not much i can do, wish there was some way that i could speed up the order or something but doubt there is. told my roomate about the video card situation and he kind of agrees, just wanting to leave the order alone unless we can speed it up cause he has limited time to call or chat with dell, if it was under my account/name/credit card then id call myself but only part thats under my name is the name plate and thats just got my gamer tag on it. sucks being bored out of my mind, dont even have a desktop now to play games on

I ordered my on 08th oct, and after that got new order from dell due 240W psu (teir fault, not mine), so new order on 12th oct. and EDD was 08,nov.
Stucked almost 4 week in pre-production stage..and then suddenly went to in production stage last week, and I got it today..So, 3 days early from EDD.

The shortage of parts is mostly for the UK customers as its the UK keyboard there short of.

 

well mine went into production almost instantly was like a day later, and yea 4 weeks sucks, not as bad as what happened when i won my r1 (mid august win confirmation, late october delivery), but id have hopped it would be faster then that yea 3 days early is nice but unless its shipped by the 20th (we have free next day shipping) its not gonna be here before i go visit family for thanksgiving, would be very nice if i got it on my bday the 16th but that is not gonna happen.

as for the shortage of parts yea thats what i was reading but there are other folks saying they felt there was delays due to some shortage of some sort and mentioned being in the US or something, i could be reading wrong or maybe just so desperate that im mixing posts up.

 

Wewww, got mine today as well, can't use it yet since im not around. Ordered 15th oct arrived 5th nov EDD was 6th nov, so 1 day early for me. Only took about 1 week or so to get in my hands after it went in production (was in pre production for 2 weeks or so). I ordered from Dell UK as well.

Ordered my m17x on 10/13/2012 and I was supposed to receive it 11/5/2012 but now it has been updated and pushed back to 11/9/2012. A dell "support agent " is supposed to call me. Interested into what he will say why the delay. When I talked to him on Friday he told me there were no delays and my system was "being packed as we speak"

 

29 days until i get hold of mine.

It's gonna draaaag.

 

Just had a frank call with a Dell CS rep (helps that I am also an Indian) and here is a tentative list of back-ordered components for US orders:

1) i7 3630 processor
2) US and UK keyboard
3) Both black and red chassis (not for long though, seems only a 1-2 day delay)
4) Nvidia 680m
5) 3D screen/120 Hz

So if your order says "In production" like mine does, it is probably a lie

 

Did they say how long of a delay for the parts?

 

The guy really had no idea what all those parts even meant, but all he knew was that they were "on the way" and he could not guarantee me my EDD of Nov 23

I just ordered my M17X R4 today and I can't wait. I'm getting December 5th as my estimated date right now.

Long story short, you never know.

 

Day 20 of my order (placed on the 18th).

Still in pre-production - ordered from the UK.

Online Chat are saying today that it is now only the keyboard that is out of stock but there is still no lead time on new stock coming in.

I suppose this is an improvement on the laundry list of missing components that I was given last week, but I'm still not totally convinced.

 

As far as I know, the CINCINNATI HUB is the place at the airport... so the package should be on its way out of the US at the moment wish I'd get an EDD from DHL

I hope you get it soon, I ordered 3 days earlier than you (15th) and I received it yesterday. I hope it comes soon enough! At least when your order status updates to in production it literally is really being built. Took about a week or so after it was in production to receive my laptop.

 

Not so, check my post in the previous page. "In production" may well be a massive lie.

 

I mean't to add for the UK sorry. The US/Canada tracking seems different compared to the UK. My one never went into production until all parts were available and was physically being built. I hope you all get your laptop soon! It was hard waiting for mine, still out of the country so I can't even use it yet.

Just a random thing, I checked the US site and I can't find the option to chat online to someone about an order status. In the UK you can find it here https://www.dell.com/support/orderstatus/uk/en/ukdhs1?c=uk&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&l=en it shows that you can chat online, I don't know if it will be any help to anyone, but people in the US they might be able to chase your order for you? I can't see why not. Their business hours may be different though.

 

There is an option for Alienware chat but I always get an error message. I end up calling each time eventually.

 

I ordered my M17X on Oct. 26, spoke with someone from Dell last week who tells me the order is NEARLY complete and ready to be shipped and that it will likely be shipped today and now I just finished a chat saying the MOTHERBOARD is on back order... How can they go from nearly complete to mobo backorder....? Wouldn't the mobo be one of the first/main parts they would need?

 

One week..
I tracked my from China, dispatched on friday,Shangai-Dubai-Germany, and ariwed on monday on my doorstep.

So, 4 days from in production stage to shipped and three days in transit.

 

What shipping did you use if you don't mind me asking

 

my order was re-scheduled to be delivered today but now it has changed again to the 12th. :-(
