I'm not sure when to expect my system, the wait is killing me though, got reading week in Uni right now and i have nothing to do, going through Youtube gaming videos and chilling with friends but i'm usually up overnight and my systems touching 90C just watching YouTube vids. Ordered 5th Nov, they made a mistake so they re-issued it 15th Nov and said they'd expedite it free of cost. I'm leaving country on 20th December and my EDD is 19th and it says shipping method - Canada standard (which doesn't seem expedited to me cos it's the same as it was this whole time).

Also, as soon as i ordered it and the SR send me the mail, it was in Production (assuming it picked off where my previous order left off). and it's still in production. Ugh. On the plus side, i went and bought those $100 twin bose computer speakers, i can't wait for the system :|

What i don't understand is my friend ordered a m14x which was on sale a week before i did, and he received the system on 3rd Nov, noticing that his m14x only took a week to arrive, and i'd taken 2 weeks deciding on buying this laptop, i was just like f**k it and ordered. Feel horrible now been waiting almost a month for this laptop :\

One thing i'm really pissed off about. I ordered on 15th Nov, get an EDD of 19th Dec. When i went on the m17x customisation page on 26th Nov, the exact same specs, EDD 14th Dec. just NOW, like RIGHT NOW, 2nd Dec (well 4 mins to 12am) , same system, same build, EDD 11th Dec. dell.

I'm from Belgium so I think they're putting it on a lorry to Brussels (where their 'central point' is) and transport it from there.. (Although I live in the West, so it would be shorter if they'ld deliver straight from Germany)

Hey guy wondering if someone could advise me on whether or not this is normal,

So I ordered my M17x on the 20th of November (I live in Europe) and I checked today and it's still in "pre production" stage. It's due to arrive on the 21st of December (over a month from order to delivery, the wait is torture) and i'm starting to worry whether or not this thing is every going to be built!

Some help/feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

My M17x was in pre-production for exactly 23, long and painful, days. It finally got in production last friday and right now i am struggling to see whether it's gonna arrive on time (My EDD is the 11th, which happens to also be the day i will be leaving the UK for a month or so..) But i wouldn't worry too much if i were you since its only been 2 weeks..

Ordered mine on the 26th of Nov. It's been in production since the 27th. Estimated delivery date of 08 Jan 2013. From what I'm getting out of every ones post is that production to delivery is around 21 days or greater, is that correct? Probably shouldn't be hoping for early delivery than huh... :-(

Mine just arrived and I am really happy with it.

One quick question - When I go onto AlienFX on the right hand side there is a picture of all of your devices. when I hover over the laptop pic it says M17X R3. Does anyone else with an R4 get this? Is it normal?

Can't find where you are looking.

but go to command prompt and type wmic computersystem get model

This will give you the model which obviously should be an r4

Mine just went in production a few hours ago.
I ordered the 27th and my ETA is 27 Dec.
I have the default m17x except a full hd screen and the 7970m.
    I live in Belgium.

    also 3 questions :

    1) I want to add a SSD (crucial m4 128gb), in which slot should I place it + should i replace the stock hdd ? (are jumpers still used to define the master hdd?)
    2) On the ssd the os should be intstalled, i just get the best drivers from alienware.com ?
    3) Does it matter in which order i install the drivers ? like should i first install the motherboard drivers, then video etc etc

I hope i get my aw before the ETA :)

    tnx

    1) install the SSD and keep the HDD for storage as there are two bays.

    2) i just booted the machine for the first time and backed up the HDD using alienrespawn to a usb then restored it to my SSD.

    3) see above.

    1) Ideally you need to install it in HDD bay 0 and move your stock HDD to bay 1. Bay 0 is closer to the centre of the laptop for your reference later on.

    2) Dell support website will have best latest drivers for the r4. If you want the alienware look and style, make sure you burn an alien respawn dvd or usb. Just incase you want a factory fresh installation.

    3) Not really, there is a thread somewhere 'how to restore alienware look after clean install windows 7' i think, tells your the best order to install in.

    1. As the others have mentioned, you can install the SSD on w/e bay you want. It does not matter since you will be able specify which drive to boot from the BIOS. Just move the 2nd hard drive to the top of the boot order ( assuming you install SSD on bay 1 ).

    2. For AW On screen display and Command Center, get the latest drive from Dell. For the rest, there is no need.

    3. I usually install the network driver first, just so I could install the rest w/o having to pre-download them.

Seems like the fastest way to do it ! :)

If you encounter any problem you can do a clean Windows 7 Installation, then download and install the drivers for the M17x R4 here in the order they appear.

I pray you're right brother! I ordered mine on Dec. 13th and it went to "in production" immediately. Still waiting to get a tracking number and hoping it will be here by Christmas. Edd is still Jan 14th on site :( the chat guy said it was close to shipping but couldn't tell me one way or the other because they are scared someone will hold them to a date if they say something :(

Sure wish that would have been the case with mine. Ordered 26 Nov been in production since then. EDD of 8 Jan. 22 days later still in production. Maybe soon for me but still waiting. Order support say that its on a queue list and will be built when it hits its turn. Not happy with that answer but oh well.

Im afraid im wrong in this case.
I ordered mine on 27th november and it was in preproduction till december 10th, here it went in production.
On 15 december (saturday) I got an email it was sent, and I received it ... monday .. thats right, it was in shanghai saturday and mondag morning the package arrived :)

1 big downside for UPS : they didnt cover the alienware box ... so it traveled the whole world with a big DELL ALIENWARE INSIDE logo on it ...

I know it's hard. Especially when you have to wait a month for your expensive laptop to arrive, but you gotta trust me when I say that it's totally worth it when it arrives and that huge smile on your face as you unbox it and lay your eyes upon its beauty. Admire it's build quality and then start her up for the first time and get blown away by its speed and capabilities. :D

Mine is due in 8-12 hours from now. It's nearly 1am and I can't sleep cause I'm too excited.

    She's my third from Dell

    1st was in 2007 - XPS 720 desktop

    2nd in 2008 - XPS M1730

    And now - M17x R4
    Ordered 25.11.2012
    Went into production 29.11
    Original EDD 3.01.2013
    Amended to new EDD 24.12
Amended again via txt from local carrier to new EDD 20.12.2012

If all goes well in the morning, I can happily say its been 3/3 hassle free experiences with Dell and its delivery service. Can say the same about the products and service too. Both XPS systems are still running well after 5 years of intense use. I hope the Alienware will serve me many years of joy too.

    I've named her Vera...
    Stealth black - 3740QM - GTX 680m - 16gb 1600 DDR3 - 1920x1080 120Hz 3D - Killer Wireless-N 1103 - 64gb caching mSATA SSD - 750gb 7,200 rpm - Win7 pro64

    Counting down the minutes... :p

I hope you get yours ASAP too.
I just read your earlier comment about Dell's response in saying that you were in a que. I wouldn't have been satisfied with such an answer either. They could at least give you an explanation i.e. waiting for parts that's out-of-stock, delay in approving payment (I've seen cases of the order status being 'in production' or 'work in progress' but really it's still confirming payment). They don't update or manage the 'order status' page very well. I've heard of people checking the page hourly, then hear a knock on the door to be surprised by the delivery but the page still said 'in production'. lol

We both ordered roughly same time but there's so many variables. If I were you, I'd expect it on 24th-28th

The other 2 were named Mary-Jane. (M1730) and Amira (720)

Haha. Anyway good luck with yours

Yeah, I commented to Dell on the lack of an alert system for thier builds. Not that it would matter for most of the Dell products, but wouldn't it be nice if you can see every step of the process besides just Pre-Production and Production? Like a scan process for every step. Even if it included a step for "waiting on parts." At least you would know what stage its sitting at. I can wait. I have waited literally years for the money to be able to order one. I can wait a couple months of production to be able to hold it.

Nice names by the way. Makes me want to name mine when it comes in... lol

I had forgotten to add that I did order mine in Nebula Red. That was an additional 7 days off Stealth black if I remember right. So the 24th to the 28th should be about right.
