maybe you guys will have a breakthrough after the 3d clevo model comes out. it shouldn't be too much longer until it comes out. from what i've heard from a little birdy, they didn't certify any 400m series cards for it other than the 485m. supposedly it'll also be holding 560m when it comes out.

but who knows. nothin official yet :) haven't heard back from any of the retailers i've emailed asking if they've got drivers for it yet.

i will be using iz3d with the 6970 crossfire with the wireless HD on my Sony 3dTV. already talked to the iz3d folks (I already owned an iz3d license from my envy 173d). They told me the 6970 should work just fine.

So, on display registry, i found something interesting:
there is a display code for 0DD1 ====>gtx460m
i will mod one for gtx485m later and test it like a gtx460m

With a little glitch thanks other screen, i can have the panel of the laptop at 120Hz and just keep the execution stereoscopic test but the ir emmiter didn't want to start.. My question is: someone know how to force ir emmiter to work?

Now that the 275 beta drivers are available, has anyone tried to see if 3d works. The driver notes indicate r3 support for 3d.

This is VERY disappointing. Alienware is supposed to be the premier gaming brand, and they can't even match offerings from clevo. And I was looking forward to getting a 485m w/3d in the r3 :(

If only it wasn't for dell's warranty (I need that peace of mind), or I would switch to clevo.

someone email a Dell Executive with this thread and see what they think, also does the clevo offer 2920XM ? ........(just opened the link and they do)

Alienware has dropped the ball with this, it's hardly a big issue to fix the AW brand by offering these two additions

come on Dell we buy Alienware because we want the best and are willing to pay for it. You have posted great earnings this year I think you should be listening to your customers who contributed to those great results

Well I have confirmed there will be a new nVidia card from my sources however its prolly gonna be a 560m, no news of the 485m. If its JUST the 560m that would do us no good. : /

Nice, this seems to be a good lead. I will be checking with some reliable contacts and see what they say about this. Often Dell people cant talk about things that arnt announced or released yet from them. I hope since this is on the live site that this will make it different. One can hope.

    Im pushin for this too!

If the 560m gets released, I'll be pretty displeased that I now have to go acquire one and get it to work. If a 485m is made available, I'll be RMAing and ordering anew...

Meh I can see why they did not offer the 485M, Nvidia probably wanted a pretty penny for it and they would get the same profit as a 6970M while the customer spending more money is less likely to buy extras or other upgrades.

It costs too much to buy a 485m aftermarket and install it. So it would probably be cheaper to rma it. I'd rather I had an official dell 485m, so if it overheated or died somehow, I would be able to return it.

If you actually go to alienware.de and type "485m" in the site search, this is what you get. 485m ("NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 485M mit 2 GB GDDR5") is clearly named. This prolly means that AW is getting ready for the card.

It's like that on the USA site as well...

BTW the 560M is slower than what we can OC the 460M to...It's just slightly overclocked, nothing more.

Any new news on this & 3D? I am gonna grab me a 485m for the performance.

I also was curious about getting some feedback from current 485m owners.

What kind of temps are you all getting? Is this good to go as far as thermals?
To those who tested the temps; Did you test extensively?

I just want to make sure this is a good idea before I do it :p

I want it to work with 3D however I think the performance is a better trade off over the 3D. People are chosing the 6970 over 3D already ;p

    Any new info from you?

Since you have both in your sig , would you put the 120 Hz screen in the trade off? is it better ? brighter ? with a 485M it would be a great combo.

120Hz is brightness than a 60hz. 485m is good gpu like twice than a 460m but still no 3D.

Well like I mentioned to someone else in a different thread. At least you have the 120Hz screen with 3D if they ever figure it out. If you went with a 6970 you just get performance. That will NEVER work with the 120Hz screen or 3D. At least the hances are higher. ;p

I reached out to a Chris M (a Dell Forums liason). He mentions that the whole reason the 485M has not been done is not because of any technical or engineering problem but it is been stonewalled by the marketing department.

    He told me the following:
He also gave me a link to share.

    http://dellideas.force.com/ideaSearchResults?s=Nvidia+485m

So anyone interested in getting the 485m here, this might be the only chance we have. Its worth a shot imo.

    Go! Go! Go!

If what you said is true about NVIDIA having financial problems it won't really matter. I just checked all their threads. I have an issue on my home setup that has been plaguing for over a year and they haven't fixed it. AndrewF is ignoring ALL posts and replying to simplistic questions.

I am not buying another NVIDIA product again. I switched to NVIDIA because of this whole 3D thing...

Their lack of support, drivers, etc., is mind boggling. You can rest assured NVIDIA will not be on my purchase list anymore.

And this is coming from a guy who spent $1500 for 3 desktop graphics cards and $750 for a single MOBILE GRAPHICS card.

I'll vote for the 485M support but unless NVIDIA turns around I won't be buying it.

TYVM.. However we also need help spreading the word. Once we get a thread there I think we should make a poll thread with the link. Everyone that votes in the poll for the 485m should also reg/post/vote on the Dell idea page. Seems like a good option at the time.

I would make the post myself , but prefer if it came from someone who owns the M17/M18.
    1) Support 485M drivers officially for M17/M18.
    2) Enable/Support 3D capability in M17 3D.
    3) Would be nice if Dell offers the 485M graphic card as an upgrade for existing customers and as a new option for new buyers especially for M17 3D.

Hey there ! I just bought this laptop but each time I try to install the GPU driver (Clevo, Nvidia, Dell, ...) it fails.

I saw a thread here talking about this but no one in this thread told what they did to make it work.

    Help me please.

    EDIT : errr R3 not R2 ^^"
