R2 build is excellent. However, it does not neccessarily mean R3 build is bad, its just not as good as R2. In return you gain extra mobility. And remember, R2 and r3 are different product lines. I dont want this to become r2 vs. r3 and then be closed again, lol

My R3 is coming tomorrow. I will up a lot of photos for those of u who havent got r3 yet can have a closer look at the red soft touch. Many people got stealth black, im just wondering how the red would be.
I wish Dell will provide more color options. How about a changeable backlit LED case

You are very welcome. Enjoying the beauty of this beast is one of the reasons why we chose AW, isnt it ?

 

Oh.. I guess its worth nothing to possible buyers that the touchpad is covered in hard plastic and not that rubber stuff, makes moving around a lot easier.

The keyboard also flexes a bit when typing but only if you pay attention to it, its so little that its impossible to notice without looking.

If you push down hard on it its definitely noticeable (once again by vision and not feel) but it isn't exactly a deal breaker.. i've seen keyboards that are much worse *cough* HP.

 

So: Where I've been all day... Backup disks, re-paste, benchmarks, etc. Yes the computer is sitting on two game cases in the back. Seemed like perfect height until I can get feet for it or stick it on a cooler. Temps went down almost 5c so i'd totally recommend working something out to where it sits up higher.

Thanks for posting that. I can tell that its kinda mixed with a little bit of pink. Now to compare that with an R3 if it has the same white alien fx. Would someone post the white alienfx of the r3? Thanks in advance!

 

I don't remember it looking so pink on my R3 but I'll try to take/post some pictures tonight if noone else does before then.

Mine doesn't look pink like that at all. I had everything set to blue except the ALIENWARE text (white) and the power button (red) and it seemed much whiter then that. I'll have to pay closer attention when I get home tonight.

 

I took the picture from higher up and the angle is making it look a little darker. I did it because the brightness from the lcd panel was causing the camera fits. the lcd panel is darker too but I figured it would show the relation of white from the lcd to the alienware lettering.

Color comparison (R2 first)


I can see pretty easily from the images that the RGB screen is more vibrant and has higher dynamic range (look at the borders between colors, and the depth of the red - blue ) In real world, RGB display is absolutely the winner in terms of color.





In these 2 pictures, you can see that the RGB (the first one) has more range in blue than the R3's ( the light blue looks much more better). Look at the difference between the deep blue of the "Alienware" on top of the screen vs the light blue at the middle




For this pic, look at the green color of the trees and the grass. There's clearly a difference.

I recall someone mentioning that the keyboard slopes downward away from you on the R3, can certainly see that in those pictures.

And no vent for the CPU fan =o

 

Man your R2 is a great looking system

 

the R3 is a single GPU system so one of the vents is for the CPU and the other one for the video card.

Is it just me or is the R3 a qualitative step down from the R2. Smaller, lower resolution and lower quality screen, inferior cooling and no option for two gpus. Two add insult to injury their "Red" has changed to a pink pastel! Bahumbug.

 

Yea but mine aren't red, I'm a huge fan and supporter of solid colors and didn't want to mix match, I mean yeah I have my regrets but at the time of purchase I wanted the same color through-out. Had the insides been red I would have gone red or silver, I just didnt' want a half on half for some reason. The red metal looks nice though.

What is R2 and what is R3?

 

Yep, the black looks quite boring. My roomie has used all 3 colors. First he got the Red R1 because that's the unique color of AW (I chose red because of this reason too). Then R2 came out with much better display, he switched to Lunar R2 and that was a nice color. Finally, he got the Black R3 which he's using right now because he wanted to try all the colors.

Unfortunately, the last choice is also the worst, according to him.

The red of the R3 looks much, much cheaper than the R2. Although I like the dimension of the R3 better.

R3 looks much smaller and more compact. It is more "flat", and will fit a standard backpack easier. I personally prefer the look of R3 (not comparing the build quality), however, R2's bottom is just so sexy

 

I like how FX lights look on the R3 in speakers areas, haven't seen in the reality, but on all pics it looks like with some gradient, very nice

 

Exactly. The light bulbs is put closer to the middle in R3, thats why there is gradient.




For some reason, the AlienFX controller in R3 is not quite accurate. For example, when you set the color of speaker area as between green and teal, the color showed in AlienFX is almost green, but in fact it is teal.

EDIT: The color of the speaker area is NOT accurate as controlled in AlienFX. Other areas are fine. Anyone has the same problem ?

No, the choices of color are still the same. But the speaker area's color is not the same as showed in AlienFX. I can manage to get both to have the same color, but in AlienFX they are different colors.

I dont think this is off topic, because anything related to "color", is also related to "pictures"
