Hey Torai how does the max brightness hold up against the RGB in the R2 ? ..

Hard to tell from just the pics .

In terms of brightness, the R3's screen is actually very bright. Its just not as vibrant as the RGB. The RGB is still a little brighter.

This is an important part that I think I prefer R3's screen lately. The RGB is excellent in terms of color, however, my eyes feel less comfortable. I noticed this since the first time using RGB, and now I can confirm it. Maybe the RGB is too vibrant, sometimes over saturation, and even though I like it a lot, I feel less pain with the WLED. The glossy part definitely made both display more annoying.

In terms of color, RGB is great for game but may not be for photo work. The color is over saturated, and therefore, not accurate.

Yesterday I still think that the R3 screen is a huge downgrade, but right now I see it is not that bad.

Hot diggity dawg. LOoks very awesome, Torai. The red looks alot better than I imagined. Because of your high quality pix and closeups, I can honestly say that I went all out on this and spoiled myself. I'm like stinky, chunky, week old milk right now.

    So excited!!!!!!

For me from those pictures the R3 looks to have a much better deeper colour tone and contrast levels than the R2, trying to be none biased - that is what I see from all the pictures

PS glad I ordered the Neb Red now looks pretty cool

I'm not an expert or anything, but all of the BOTTOM pictures look much more vivid and color-full (double L not single L) than the TOP pictures. That means the R3, right? If yes, then I'm very happy with the R3's monitor.

I just see more white light in that one compared to others, but that's because it's a WLED as compared to an RGB LEd, you need to show some RED images to really see what an RGB LED does when compared to a WLED

Great pics torai, I'm really glad I went with the black version. Although the red is nice just not my preference.

As for the r3/r2 screen comparison, rgb looks a bit more vibrant.

On a small 17.3 inch screen however, I don't plan to seriously watch movies on it. I'd rather use the big plasma. So if the laptop is going to be your primary screen for some reason, I can see how this may push some people to the r2. I think most people are going to watch a movie on an external monitor 99% of the time I'm guessing.

Word. May even plug it into my 900p monitor, which has kept me happy since I upgraded to it only recently from a dino-CRT monitor :) That HP CRT monitor kept me happy since the year 2000. 9 years of joy.

So what's the benefit of "RGB" ? Is it just the "R" ? Cuz I don't like green anyway, and all blue looks the same. Ask me why I hate green. Answer: Look at my avatar :p

OK I know its hard to tell from those pics. For those pics of the display, both were set at maximum brightness. Camera was set at manual mode, same setting for both.

Here's the deal. If you look at the second comparison, you'll be able to tell how much the range of the blue color in those pics.

On the first pics, the blue ranges from light blue to deep blue. However, on the second pic (the R3's), can u see that light blue ? Please take a look at the difference between the color of the ALIENWARE letter and the CENTER of the picture. If you compare the top of the images, the colors are pretty much the same. But they are different in the middle.

I might take some more photos for a better comparison between those displays.

Thanks. Same thought here. Actually the R3's display is not bad at all, and to me its worth the trade off between mobility/battery life vs. build quality/screen.

For the blue Alienware wallpaper you can see the difference better if you make it look blury by not focusing on it properly

I notice the biggest difference near the top left and right. On the R2 it's a deeper blue and same place on the R3 is lighter and closer to the rest of the blue color on the R3 screen.

Am i the only one who thinks that the R3 screen is more clearer in colours and more vibrant?

With the blue stuff comparison the whiteness is much more clearer with R3 while the blue is almost the same.

With the blue, green, yellow and red i also thinks that the R3 is more crisper.

There is a difference IRL but I don't think his camera picked it up nearly as much as it would look to your eyes alone.

I'm not saying the R3 screen looks bad. I'm just pointing out where I see the difference in color on the last post. Other than the top portion of the screens, everything else looks to be the same. But you have to take into account that they camera may have changed the look some, and the computers that we are looking at the pics on may have an effect on exactly what we all see.

No matter which is "better" you can't swap them, so it's still up to you to decide on the system you want.

The media buttons are fine when you realize how to push them lol. You have to push near the tip its pointing towards, not the middle. I like them much more than my friends R1 touch buttons.
And the picture of power brick in comparison to the lid...

I don't have my camera with me and m17x right now but you should take some pics with a penny or dollar bill or something on top of the power brick.. Would give a more honest comparison as not everyone has an m17x to compare size with.. And if they did they wouldn't be looking to compare as they already have the brick.

Its pretty large but thin, I'm just glad it fits in the bag I got.

I have to say the media buttons arent the greatest being cut out of a very very thin piece of metal but its a heck of a stup up from the r2 in my opinion. On the r2 they were touch that got fingerprints all over the glass and i had to peer close to see which buttons i was pressing and then npressing twice because they dont instant launch (like alienfx) and i wasnt sure if i was hitting them. very annoying. On the r3 you push and feel a click and it's satisfying.

ill take a pic of the corner with my iphone where mine is raising a little. im returning this machine today but on my new one i will remove it and modify it so it doesnt happen.

Here's mine. I touch it and it goes back down but will slowly pop up after a few seconds.

Its actually made out of plastic to look like metal, I've taken it off to fix my keyboard.

It has a click but I hate them.. They either need to have buttons that stick up or just full on touch buttons. This is some kind of weird hybrid where its built in flush with the frame and it makes the whole (PLASTIC) frame flex. Also take it apart and reassemble, the whole thing snaps in and I'm willing to bet you are missing a peg insert or two thats making it pop up like that.

I had it on my first (pre-recall) R3 in that exact spot. If you push it down, it can hold for up to 3-5 minutes but it WILL pop back up. Gorilla-glued it (just a tiny bit applied by unbent paper clip) and never had to think about it anymore.

Yep. There is a dummy in the reader and it doesn't affect the boot time of the windows like it did in the pre-recalll R3 (when i used a spare dummy i had at home in the old R3, windows boot time slowed down by more than 30 seconds down to over a minute on a SSD when it was, probably, trying to identify the card stuck in the reader and couldn't read anything off the plain plastic). It doesn't do that anymore on the new unit.

It looks pinkish because there are 3 primary colors. C'mon, we all remember this from school. Red, Green and Blue. Those three colors mixed will produces all the other colors-even white. But apparantly, they don't have the 'mixes' set ecactly right so we still see some red coming through.
The MBPs only have white which is produced by a single white LED bulb(s) therefore the white is much....well, whiter. Try making them green, blue or purple???!!!
