Hey Z, the replacement part number I have for my lcd is
LCD Screen Part Number is: G517T.
Description: LCD Assembly (Samsung True Life)
Is there anyway to see what screen that is? Dual Bulb ect..
that is their part number. I don't have the item part number itself from the screen. So i don't know if that will help.
Just curious.
The original part number for the lcd from dell was
1 K001R MODULE..., LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 17WUXGA, ANW, M17X
1 R610K LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 17WUXGA, 2CCFL, TLF, SAMSUNG...
I dunno what the difference would be. -
I got that part number after speaking with an escalation manager that is now owning my case. I should be getting a phone call for scheduling my appt today.
-
no i need the actual model number off the sticker on the back of the panel. i do poss have some new info on the samsung though but i was asked not to post it until they know for 100% sure that the info he was given is correct. it is a dell exclusive part as of right now but will be released for other companies to use within the year. the guy i know has a whitesheet on it but is triple checking to make sure the listed specs are correct. im still working on it dont worry i have not given up.
if i could sell this one last msi system i have sitting here a fully loaded 1651 i could order up my m17x but im short by a bit still right now.. sucks. this last msi if i could get what i hope to for it id be able to order it asap and settle this once and for all. i am willing to physically take the panel apart to see if there are dual lamps. i have more panels i can put in there so im not worried about it.. i have the dual lamp sharp which i LOVE.. -
-
Thanks for the info. thats that i figured. It was worth a shot.
I am just hoping i get a good screen this time. -
I gave you my model number but you didn't tell me if you had any info. Check your pm's..... -
not yet im working on it with the guy at samsung to get the real specs of the panel for you.
-
1 R610K LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 17WUXGA, 2CCFL, TLF, SAMSUNG
is that two different panels are is it referring to the same panel? -
-
I am worried now that they will be poping the lid apart..
Just spoke to the complete care onsite guy and he is headed over to pick up the parts.. He said that it seems that they just sent the lcd not the whole lid..
He will call me back once he has them to confirm.. I hope its the whole lid due to dust and all getting in there. That would be bad.. -
If that's true you can at least look for the cffl tubes.

According to the service manual technicians in the field are not to open up the E2E display.
The service manual (which the field techs use) does not even give instructions on opening up the E2E display.
He's probably wrong and the whole top assembly will be in one piece. -
-
If it isn't the whole assembly, I suggest you tell the tech to come back with the right parts.
Most E2E panels just pop-off the front but I don't think this one is like that. I believe it is factory sealed (that is why AW left an access door with the back panel to fix the alienhead if something goes wrong).
When I took my panel off I didn't see an easy way of getting the front off.... -
correct these are supposed to come as one piece..
-
cool.. I will find out soon enough.. I just hope the quality is better than what I originally got.
-
it will almost for sure be the same model panel. my contact at dell said they only use one model panel at this time for both res'..
-
I knew it was a sammy when I first booted into windows - the unmistakeable shimmer/grain is samsung's trademark!
It doesn't bother me one bit but some ppl find it distracting -
wait wait.. it has shimmer/graininess? There's no way in hell I'm buying this notebook then.
-
-
-
-
I don't see any shimmer, graininess, it's one of the best screens for laptop except it bleeds quite a bit on the bottom but the bleed is not visible in games. -
My screen bleed has gone down a lot for some reason... how does that happen?
-
um....only explaination I can think of is software upgrade.......
...but thats a hardware thing..so, that's a stupid assumption xD -
Well, I'm not sure how relevant this is, but when I received my M17 and fired it up, I was initially dissapointed at how dim the screen was when i turned it on. After about 3 hours or so of use the screen just suddently became brighter and I was amazed. This happened again later after I did a respawn, initially dim, and later became brighter. I'm not sure if this was somehow intended to act that way, but it has never gone dim again. Perhaps there's a built in "burn-in" timer in the AW version of ATI's driver? *shrug* Anyways thats my 2 cents.
-
i have never heard anything like that in my life or any feature like that .....
possibly was shipped @ half brightness..... -
Well that was the first thing I tried, to raise the brightness, and it was all the way up. Maybe it just took a little while for the LCD to spin up, who knows. I thought it was wierd myself. Stranger yet, it happened 8 days later after I did a respawn, which was even more suprising. Regardless, the point was its "conceivable" that it just takes a little while for the LCD to settle in or something.
-
Gotta say, I'm torn here. I may be getting an m17x, but I'm not sure about the screen. On one hand, the screen is the only part you can't really upgrade yourself. On the other hand, I don't think you'd really need more than 1440x900 in a 17" screen. 1680x1050 maybe, but things get pretty squinty at 1920x1200. I'm also not sure if I'm ready to shell out an extra $150 for something that may be somewhat unnecessary. Also, running games at full res would yield better results on 1440x900 (due to the lower res, obviously). Still, it may be best to go with the 1920x1200. Argh, the decisions...

-
Nah, blu-ray's not necessary for me at the moment.
-
-
-
it is semi intensive but no harder then changing your CPU or so ...
Just take apart the lid unscrew then unplug the lid get the new one and plug it in and screw it back on
see this is on the M17 but the screen should be set up similar

So considering I'm a non blu ray user on a budget, would you say 1440x900 would be just fine for me?
(And where would you order a new screen? From Dell directly?) -
no get it off Ebay
1440 is nice i have used both and i just prefer more room since i do so much on my computer -
One thing I would always recommend is the highest res possible. You could always chage DPI if everything is too small.
-
-
-
well simple just wait on it and if you don't like it then get a screen off ebay
if not the 150 will be well spentIMO
-
-
For what it's worth, having 1920x1200 displays at home, I would never buy a lower resolution screen, higher resolution is much more comfortable and it will probably be the thing you use the most as opposed to a GPU for eg that you would only use while gaming.
Upgrading the screen is IMO much more important and cheaper (hdd prices will go down in a few months while the screen probably won't change much) than any other component. -
Listen, if you don't value resolution like some of the other res-junkies in here than that screen would be more than enough.
And just think that your system will run games better due to the lower res
AND mine was a dual-bulb according to my detailed parts list.
(Honestly, Dell would have offered WSXGA I would have gotten that) -

m est.. I couldnt leave the office yesterday.
He never opened the box.. I guess that is better so I see him open it in front of me..
