Your a brave man!
I wouldn't let one of those techs come NEAR my system![]()
I would have had Dell ship me the parts to install....
-
-
Same here.
-
Part of complete care on site.. That is fine I will be there and he will use extra care... if not I will tell him to leave the parts and the airbill and I will do myself. They send the parts to him and not me.. Again part of the warranty... No choice in that.. -
ALOT of people just get Dell to ship it out ... convince the CS person you know how to fix it and your golden.
Zfactor always gets his parts to him and not the other way around -
Nope.
I have replaced MANY internal parts when I had my XPS 170/1710/M1730. AND I didn't even have a good warranty - just return to depot (mail-in)!
You just have to know how to talk to tech support to get them to overnight you the parts.
I have professional certs so I usually tell them that and they have always given me the parts directly
-
Um that was easy for dell. I agree
But alienware had to place this and I had to fight them to even consider the replacement lcd.. They told me it was normal and all kinds of excuses.
I had to escalate up through my company contact to get the ball going on this..
So far I have had some bad experiences with alienware's cs but dell has been awesome...
I have certs too btw but they were very argumentative on alienware cs... I was just trying to get it processed. -
I guess if you used AW tech support than it would be different....
How come you didn't try Dell tech support? -
proably because it was a AW computer .... and he thought AW
Even though a branch in AW handles it.....
. But so does Dell so i don't really know any more
-
Long story.. Remember no one could locate my ST.. Took a few days to get that resolved and once I did, I started with dell and they wold always transfer me to AW.
I even had an AW scold me for going through dell. She flipped on me when she had to call me back since I escalated through dell since AW was not doing what they should.. Oh yea and she was reported for her poor CS skills.. if you want to call them skills
So yea, I would prefer dell but for some reason they kept xfering me to AW to get tech support. -
get the screen from aw. if you have not done it before especially with the front added cover you might not want to mess with it and if these are in fact shipping with one piece type setup it may not be as easy to find a replacement for them. do not believe people selling "compatible" screens you have no idea what you will get and if it will really fit now with the new one being called m17x as the old one was (stupid idea) also be careful buying from ebay because searching for m17x screen may end up getting you the old versions panel...
honestly even on ebay the screens are near the 150$ price for a NEW wuxga panel. save the trouble and get it from aw.. imo
i did see the screen for only a minute though they were playing with one at my local best buy prob for display reasons. yes you can tell its a sammy it has that trademerk "sammy look" to it for those that know what i mean. there is no way it is 400nits period. not happening if i had to guess id still say i dont even think it was 300 but i only got to see it for a minute but no way 400nits. unless they had the brightness turned down a lot (but it was plugged in so that should raise the brightness all the way up automatically) im still working on getting his down here or someone else's to play with to actually test. i know im holding off ordering till i have more time to see the display personally -
So, which BB did you go to?
And I assume that the M17x you saw had the WXGA+ since it was in BB, right? -
yes it was while i was in tampa. they dont have any for sale i assume this was a unit they had for display but they were simply playing with it and it was not on the shelf yet..
-
What is this trademark "sammy look" ? If its the graininess/shimmer/sparkles like the AUO on the gateway p7811fx then I'll just get the new asus g71. Unless that dual lamp AUO screen has graininess
-
Samsung panels are unmistakeable, IMO.
There is slight shimmer/grain but it doesn't affect the display quality, unless you sit 6" in front of it.
At normal distance it isn't noticeable.... -
You should've said you was in Tampa. I would've met you somewhere on Dale Mabry and you could've seen mine.
-
There is your opportunity Z!!!
Put this thing to rest once and for all
-
dohhhhhh let me see if i can get back up that way soon.. do you ever come down to the sarasota area??
-
Well everyone swapped out the lcd.. that was a pain in the ...
Had to move over brackets, webcame, power inverter ect... they just sent the screen portion which was lcd and E2E.... so no worries on dust but had to completely disaseemble the lid and move everything over...
Pics coming in a sec -
All i know is i never want to have to do that again..
I need to test the screen now.. but damn i had to move everything on the inside over.. that is not cool... serioulsy it was just the pannel... nothing else... -
well so far i still have the darker area... about to load wow and see how the text looks...
If you look bottom left.. really bright then dark (where start menu would be) the old screen did this and that is where i had chat winows in wow and it made them all washed out..
I hope maybe just maybe its better this time.
My digital camera isnt the best when trying to capture how it looks in person...
-
That doesn't look too good, kilthro
I hope it's more of your camera taking a bad picture.... -
well...all i can say is $%#%##$@%@
The good is that this screen is in somewhat better shape than my old one that 75% of the screen is good.
As you can see with word 2007 open, there is a darker spot that goes all the way across the screen.. well that is where my chat windows are and still same issue on that portion of the screen... The rest of the screen is good.....
That ticks me off... all that freakin work for something that isnt what it should be.. -
it is definately darker on that portion of the screen then the rest...
WHY WHY WHY.... -
The panel may settle a little over the next couple days , i would leave it on 24/7 for now and see if it gets any better .
-
I just gave you +rep just because of your troubles...
-
i can only hope... this is frustrating
-
aww thanks!
-
damn... I'd go crazy if my screen came like that... especially the second time. Hopefully it works out for you.
-
well atleas i hope that z can get the part number and confirm.. save z from having to open someone elses...
-
It is frustrating... well i will let it settle over the weekend and see if it evens out. I doubt it but its the only option I have unless I get another screen ordered.
-
At this point you could ask for a replacement system......
-
yea i may do that.. i will call my sales rep on monday if this doesnt improve and see what can be done.
-
It is! Your laptop screen is the one thing you want to get correct right from the start. Sure it can be changed as Moo suggests, but it's tantamount to replacing the transmission on a new car. It's just not something you want to be spending money on or attempting to replace unless it's absolutely necessary--i.e. you crack the original one.
-
well from your pics it shows me it IS A DUAL LAMP. i can see the inverter cables for both bulbs. and since that is the case imo that is a terrible screen. it seems like the top bulb is doing hardly anything at all in there. with 2 bulbs that should for sure be WAY MORE UNIFORM than that. i am for sure dissapointed... the only other thing i can think os is if your inverter is not working properly. did they change that also or did they reuse the old one?? if the inverter is not lighting the top bulb i wonder though the unit i saw at best buy was basically the same way..
-
No i was very disappointed.. All they sent was the screen.. All the rest had to be moved over from the old lid/screen including the inverter..
yea the top bulb is wimpy...
it was such a pain to move all that over, web cam, power cable, inverter, brackets, ect.. -
do you think it would light more eveningly or brighter with a diff inverter?
-
its very possible i have seen just the inverter be bad before. its not very often but it is possible. but they have to physically take it all back apart again to change it
-
oh i know.. at this point i think i am gonna try to get a whole new system sent
i didnt pay the price for this thing to continually take it apart for problems.. ugrades is one thing.. probs is another... -
i know i would for sure get a new system personally though it will take some doing im sure if you are outside your return window
-
what the typical return window?
-
21 Days from date of invoice (which is the day it is shipped).
You still probably wouldn't have any issue getting a replacement system. Just make sure you get a casse number so that you can use the online escalation form (that will get you someone who can help you with what you want). -
case number once I call in and tell them to send a replacement? Or the case number for the lcd replacement?
I have three of them for that alone since they kept messing it up.. -
not an order number or service call number, but a case reference number.
anytime you have an issue you should get one.
Go here for more info.... -
Z, I could be standing in Sarasota and not even know it. But i'll be out of town for the 4th.
Maybe when I get back. -
Wow, that Samsung LCD is really awful, I'll skip the M17x, unless they change the LCD offerings to RGB LED or at least an HQ LG LCD.
-
wow so that is a dual bulb but the worst one ever apparently? Why didn't they just go with AUO or LG dual lamp screens.. at least now we can replace it with an AUO or LG right z but we shouldn't have to spend an extra $300 or w/e to get a good screen
-
shoot me a pm when you get back and we will for sure get together and ill calibrate your screen for you..
-
Well I just off the phone with an ACE escalation Manager and he is getting AW to process a whole complete replacement system.. I am waiting for them to call me back with conf#
-
Told ya! This is good, kilthro
I hope your new system is better and you become a proud AW owner!!
