haha yeah thats one way you could look at it lol. Its really for multimedia IE movies and should be a feature you can disable because it does nothing for games except make them darker.

Any high resolution photos showing off the quality of the LCD? I've seen Butter's photos but that only shows the light bleed of his.
-
Today is the first day I noticed the auto-dim feature....weird.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
so I guess we should just accept it....
-
it's barely noticeable for me. it wont bother me at all.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Regardless of how bad it is, I wont let something so trivial ruin my enjoyment of a $2600 laptop lol
-
Why care about quality... After all it's just an 60hz screen :x
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I prefer 60 Hz, have seen a 120Hz tv and didn't like, seemed to make the images look fake to me
-
120HZ in tv's isn't true 120hz.
They just put fake frames between the true ones to make it looks more fluid, and yes it looks fake because IT'S fake haha
I'm talking about true 120hz (120hz on input and output)
.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
So what you are saying is computers with support for 120hz monitors are the only way to see a TRUE 120hz? wish somewhere actually had a display demo of that...seems a bit expensive to test myself
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That is good and all, but something like this would have to be a subjective call, I would need to see it in person - thus the desire for a display demo somewhere
-
2233RZ, Viewsonic VX2264WM, Some Mitsubishi TV's, any decent CRT...
If you play fast paced games like quake, ut, ns, and even cs (while this isn't really fast paced) 120hz is just 90000% better -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
are there any 1920x1200 120hz screens?
-
Asus is supposed to release one this year.
-
Asus say this since January
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
which would you place as higher priority, higher resolution or 120Hz over 60Hz
this is the real dilemma until then haha -
120HZ always.
Why u think i bought 2 2233RZ -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Cuz you didn't already have 2 FHD2400 like I do..? lol
Not having somewhere to dump my current monitors would be main main hurtle to this
edit: looked around some, and right now these are just too expensive.....maybe later but I am not dissatisfied with my 60hz displays enough to justify the trouble of selling these and getting those -
Well... I have 2 FW900
.
Well i think that for casual players probably don't worth the trouble, But i play competitive and using LCD 60hz is impossible for me -
Incidentally, does M17X system come with any adjustments for viewing media? -
Oh well the screen is just too terrible for me to keep the notebook so it's being shipped back for a full refund monday. Maybe one day I'll come back and look at AW's offerings. I'm gonna try out the asus g71gx-a1, it supposedly has a very good dual lamp screen.
-
Good luck Malignant hopefully you find a machine and screen your happy with.
-
-
-
The m17 ships with a pretty good LG WU3 1900x1200 lcd
-
agreed the m17 has a much nicer screen than this one
-
That would greatly depend on the screen your M17 has and in my case i vote a big fat NO.
.
-
-
-
It says LPL0000 in the device manager but i know that number has been used across many different panels from WXGA to WUXGA . -
I would like to take my compiments from my the M17x 1920x1200 screen back...
It is a nice screen... however the screen is dim... I never noticed it until I hooked the M17x onto my $1800 samsung HDTV (1080p)...
And when I did I noticed that my desktop background is much much much much brightier and defined, even though its just 1080p...The M17x screen is 1200p...
I shouldnt notice a difference between the two, right? It should be that the 1200p on my laptop should be more difined and show more charatics, right?
But, thats what you get, I would hope, when you buy a $1800 HDTV, compared to a $200 upgrade...
the colors of my 40' HDTV are even more pronounced and blacks are deeper black... but since the HDTV come with other stuff to help the crispness and black levels, right?
Can someone please clarify if I should even be able to tell a difference...? shouldnt the 1200p be brighter with more colors as well as being able to define characteristics of a photo better?
My background is the one for Diablo 3 and starcraft 2, and I notice a huge improvement from my 40' HDTV from my $3000 M17x's 1200p screen...
its probalby that dang auto dim feature, since my HDTV doesnt have this? -
You can't really compare the two becasue your HDTV is either PVA or IPS. These LCD panels will produce a much nicer picture than a TN panel on a notebook.

Thanks sleey0
I was thinking about getting one of these for an external moniter... Any feedback on these would be very appreciated... thanks

NOTE: does the M17x ---"Please make sure that your PC either has or can support a dual-link DVI-D graphics card before purchasing this monitor." Does this just mean "dual graphics cards?
P.S. I wasnt saying the M17x screen is bad, just saying there was a difference...kinda figured they werent for comparing due to the fact my LCD HDTV weighs like 35-45 pounds(hang that on a wall, yeah right)... got it like 2-3 years ago... refresh of 8ms... I want one of samsungs LED LCD's HDTV's... but the technology of "bending light", technically speaking, isnt perfected yet... This is what technically LED LCD do...Im waiting a year or two -
No, it means DVI Dual link.
I believe the M17x is dual link (as any new card would have) but you may want to get more info from owners here. -
thanks sleey0 once again +1 REP
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The m17x can not go beyond 2048x1536 resolution. It is limited in the driver believe.
So that 30" monitor is out unless a work around is found. And as far as connections, I have heard that the hdmi port is version 1.3, so assuming that the driver can be modified for this, it SHOULD be able to carry that dual link signal -
Yeah, just get a DVI-HDMI adapter from monoprice.
You should be good to go.... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
that won't address the issue of the video output on the cards be limited to 2048x1536 res no matter what plug you use......you cannot drive a 30" monitor at native 2560x1600 resolution from this laptop without at least modifying the drivers to allow it
-
is it really worth the $150 upgrade for the 1920x1200 res? does the 1440x900 display go up to 1080p? should i get a blu-ray upgrade now and upgrade the screen later? if i do upgrade screen later, will i be able to upgrade to a 1920x1200 res? i've been trying to find the best combo for this laptop and this is what i'm thinking about:
p8600
1gb 260m
4gb ram 1066mhz
640 (2x320gb) HDD - RAID 0
17" 1440x900
blu-ray -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
get the microcenter model if you can afford it, excellent value
i would get 1920x1200 before i got blu ray
1440x900 cannot do 1080p.....1080p is 1920x1080 -
microcenter model?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Microcenter has a build that they are selling of the M17x:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0314770
It is a pretty good deal and well featured -
ya thats a great deal 8) but what about the custom name plate? what will it say? oh well that about what i was going to spend for the pkg i originally listed... thanks for the link scook9
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
As for the name plate, it will just say M17x, but i think you can contact dell to have a custom one ordered/sent (I don't know if is free)
If I could not get the deal I got on system in my sig ($2538 shipped and taxed) I was going to get the Micro Center model, as I live right by one (used to work there and was going to try to get EP on it hehe - employee price is $2118 so $181 off) -
$2511 w/tax and shipping... i live by one too but when i try to shop online with that store it doesn't give me an alienware brand for lappies... but that deal is REALLY great.. i guess ima have to save a few more hundred dollars to get it but its worth it.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya the store by me does not carry it in store anymore, but they do have a display model for some hands on. I think it is a web order only option now, but they DO have them in stock, so no weeks of waiting BS like sam's club or bestbuy are pulling
-
I wonder how mc got a hold of so many systems to stock??
Seems like something going on between Dell and MC! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
MC has their hands in everything, they bought the entire first batch of yorkfield CPU's when they came out and were pretty much exclusive sellers for a month haha (at awesome prices to boot!)
They got their $hit together..... -
how long to do ya think that deal will last? and i wonder if it comes with a free windows 7 upgrade
