And on Dell's site it is only listed as "17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 - (1200p) LCD"
Although...
This doesn't sound like the LCD I got at all. Muted colors, weird auto-brightness issues...

This is quite depressing... I'm not so sure I want to take the plunge now. Having a good screen is a necessity for me. Hope they do something about this, fast.
-
Yes same here..
Kinda frustrating and a big let down... -
sorry to derail your post i just noticed you lived in reston, i work for FCPS.
also your post count currently is 666, scary -
IMO, this is the best screen I've had on a gaming system. So either I got lucky or just a bunch of crappy screens in the past, lol. My M1730 screen was garbage compared to this one.
-
Sorry, was a bit to quick.
I would want a replacement. They simply should deliver what they promised. -
-=$tR|k3r=- Notebook Virtuoso
Seems to be more than just their 'press-release'..... the following, and same is stated on the website, as well:
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-alienware-m17x?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
Scroll down...... just below, " Powerfully Unique Design".......... no doubt this is what is being advertised, and this is what folks should be getting!
-
with the m15x, they advertised it with the brightview screen, I believe. what they didn't tell you is that the brightview was only on the 1440x900 screen. the 1920x1200 screen was pretty vanilla in comparison. single ccfl, and matte.
they can advertise whatever they want, as long as you're capable of getting the screen advertised... if you choose something other than what is advertised, that's your bad, not theirs... though, they don't really tell you which is which... so who knows? -
Well in the M17x Comprehensive Specs the displays is listed as:
24-bit color, Dual bulb CCFL for both resolutions.
And the 1920 x 1200 displays as:
17.0 inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) True Life -
Z does this help:
Samsung TFT 17" WXGA+ LTN170BT10-0 U519K
It's from the sticker on the back of the M17x (1440x900) as seen on the pic in this review.
-
in my parts book that is a single ccfl model screen i have a call into samsung to see what they say
-
I need to look at mine so I can see what model mine is. Mine is the higher rez screen.
-
thanks for finding that
-
anyone have the part number to the higher res screen?
-
Also not to derail the thread but Model W850DI...
How sure are we that this was a Quanta and not another Flextronics? -
agreed looks like a flex part number arghhh
-
good question why would they name it the successor to the m17?
-
could be why flex said screw the 840
if this is true it explains alot
we never did have official confirmation that quanta was making it -
Does that LCD info help you ID the screen at all?
-
he said according to his records that is a single lamp
-
wow so the 1440x900 is single ccfl when in the specs sheet it states
Type
(24-bit color, Dual bulb CCFL panels)
17.0 inch WXGA+ (1440 x 900) •
17.0 inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) TrueLife -
as i said according to that mode number that is a sinlgle ccfl screen
-
Ahh excuse me I missed it.
-
no problem at all....im waiting for a guy at samsung to call me back on this
-
well great thought i found a near perfect notebook.. single lamp ftl
-
good luck finding a dual lamp in a notebook lol
-
My wife's Sony FW also advertises 2CFFL. Wonder if that's true, lol.
-
Zfactor, what's the name of the order book that you have (and can you take a picture of the part that shows it was being a single CCFL screen?).
If it comes down to it, I think a lot of people will need to take up the case with Dell. We'll need that information to argue our case and get better LCD screens or replacements, or some sort of resolution. -
if these are really single lamps aren't dell in for a lawsuit for false advertising?
-
asus use dual lamp AUO's in their g17s
-
You'd have to put together a class action case. Most people don't want to put forth the effort so it gets ignored.
-
im right now waiting for more info from samsung i ant post the pages in my book as it has wholesale pricing on it. its simply a book i got from a lcd vendor i deal with.. so thats why im calling samsung this may or may not be accurate
-
Step one is to get the evidence and take it up with sites like Consumerist, get the word out there.
Force Dell to either fix the issue or resolve it.
This is one reason I never trust stuff made in China. You never know if you'll get some part substitution.
You can just censor out the cost information. We don't need to know that. Just the part/description. -
might get the new asus g17 (dual lamp) but id rather get this bada$$ looking notebook.
-
yes you have ground to demand a refund or a new laptop with what was advertised. They legally cannot advertise it incorrectly
also they do watches this forum very closely since we are the BIGGEST AW community -
i just thought of something,
with them phaseing out their 1730 what if they put in all their old LCDs to try to deplete the stock so they don't lose money. They tried to pawn off old LCD's to save money and get rid of old ones. If they did do that i would never buy from dell ... -
You can just return it right? I don't know the laws over there, but here if something is not 'as described', the seller is obliged to issue a refund or make it right. A stocking fee shouldn't apply if they have sold it under false pretences. Also, for the guys in Europe, the European distance selling laws mean you can just send it back anyway, no reason needed.
-
You'd have to wait and see if it changes with future models.

http://www.lcds4less.com/samsung-laptop-lcd-screens/ltn170bt07.shtml
those are all single ccfl ltn0bt models. the ltn0bt10 is just a current part number for this screen according to samsung but it is the same as above listed as far as panel goes the differences are in brackets etc.. this is from a repair tech at samsung -
seeing as their has been reports of 2 different screens im betting Dell tried to pull a fast one ...
-
which 2 screens moo?, and guys trust me i hope im wrong here
-
i know if mine turns out to not be as advertised i will be demanding a lcd replacement until i get what i paid for
-
the SEC one and the one described in that picture.....
-
I'd rather Dell send a technician out to replace the LCD with the correct one. I don't want a refund, I just want the right screen I paid for. I don't want to jump to conclusions yet, but something doesn't feel right about the LCD. My older Alienware m9750? GREAT screen. This? Not... not so great, no.
-
those are both sec (samsung) panels. personally i hate most samsung notebook panels. inkjammer whats the hardware id of your screen... sec5443 like the other listed?
-
You're, beating a dead horse here. This question has been asked and answered!
-
maybe i wanted to make sure it was really dead
-
I stopped clicking on each one of those 17" screens on the site....does Samsung even have a dual-lit 17" screen?
-
not as far as i can tell currently as i said unless these are custom for dell
