I'd guess they do since Samsung is not only a major manufacturer of LCD panels, but an innovators and a major developer of the technology.
-
so anyone try calling alienware up yet to find out?
-
talking to them now via chat
-
well he said the only way you get the 8ms dual bulb is by getting the 1200p option but he did not have the model #
-
so the 1440x900 is not dual lamp?
-
damn, that sucks. did you say thats not whats advertised??
-
The dual lamp screen was one of the reasons which made me go out of my budget limits and order an M17x! yeah, that sucks!
-
I just send a letter to [email protected] about this auto-brightness crap. That's killing the laptop for me. :| If I open a white window at about 20% of the screen size it's a very, VERY light gray. Expand it to full screen and it all becomes a very, VERY bright white.

I tried locating a sticker but was not so lucky..
What i did was go into the monitor properties. It is detected as a pnp generic but if you go into details and hardware ID it shows SEC5443 Does that help? Dunno if that is the id it is finding from the pnp driver or from the device it self. -
Holy crap....looking at that pic of the model info again I just noticed this line:
VGA/B: PWA VGA/B AMD M98 Q GD5 1G AB330 G
AMD M98 is the 4800 series cards and Q GD5 1G could very well stand for Qimonda GDDR5 1Gig RAM.
That M17x is using at least one ATI card. -
People though already reported having the SEC5443 and thats where the Speculation started with it being a single bulb screen. -
Well, my SXPS 16 RGBLED screen reported that same samsung number.
So, I don't know how reliable that is. Someone is welcome to remove the lcd's back panel (I know I will if need be on Monday). -
-
Although from the service manual it looks like you can remove the back cover without removing the front panel. -
Got ya. Well I tried taking some pictures of it with my camera and unfortunately I can not get it to display the effect of the bleed and washed out. It comes out ok in my photo.. kinda like it enhances it... I can show some of the bleed on a total black screen but for the washed out text.. I have tried many angles and distances and it looks better in the picture than it does in real life...
-
also nice find on the fact that your RGB led reads the same as the other Samsung being reported , this could really be a case of Windows error and we are all wrong. -
It can be due to pnp driver that it uses..
Just waiting for SP2 to finish then I am upgrading the OS to ultimate... perks of technet lol -
-
I remember back in the old XPS threads that the 1710 or 1730 had a panel manufactured by sharp (per the label ON the panel) that read a Seiko-Epson in device manager/everest.
This could be the case.... Time will tell!! -
no people just assumed that it was seiko - epson. every test i ran on it said sharp. i checked in everything
but the model number posted in the previous pic not the sec5443 number is saying its a single ccfl -
-
who did that review on that model posted by phingale?
-
I don't know what language it is or I'd post it translated.
I just spotted 4850 1G though in the text. -
so whats the return policy for this thing? If I order it and not satisfied with the screen I can return it? HP let me return a notebook and I received full refund.
-
-
So sleey when do you get yours? I'm curious to see how good the 1440x900 panel is and you seem to be the only one to have ordered one with that screen.
-
i cant recall the name of the software that reported it, but it did say "SEIKO-EPSON".
I made a comment in one of the threads about it but we can't search anymore.
malignant: I get mine on monday -
oh i didnt remember seeing that yeah stinks we cant search right now. i know everything i tried said either pnp or sharp
-
ok well sleey you'll have to open up your lcd so you can tell us the model number alright?
-
yeah with the actual model number i can get actual specs
-
It was powerstip that displayed what I was talking about.
-
ZZZ!!!!! Any news on the ODM?
-
Yeah, it looks like a flextronics according to that other thread.
I don't care because it should be just as good as a quanta odm... -
err what is ODM and what is flextronics/quanta?
-
Original Design Manufacturer. The companies Dell hires to design/build their laptops.
-
flextronics made the m17/m9750
quanta made the m17x /m15x -
yes looks like it is flextronics i hate to say. not that they are bad but after the crap they pulled with the 840 it kinda sucks. once seely opens his he should see a few labels inside the lid and i can tell by the part number codes for sure. the person i spoke with at flex would not say much about it except to ask dell with a synde sound to his voice so i will assume with the part number being 850 it is theirs.. lol
-
-
Would have to be an exclusive regardless of if Flex built it or not.
-
this is actually good news
it mean we KNOW they have 4870's as what you have said...could be what you saw...
im very happy now...they have always made great computers and with this they will be able to branch out and make more and better computers. Could also be why they dumped the m17 because they couldn't support both and this was their new FOR SURE money maker. Good day for Flex
whats funny is it looks like flex took the designs by Quanta and incorerated them into the M17x
also loo at the names
m15x m17x = quanta
M17 M17x=flex
this actually could be a refresh and thats why they named it the same -
-
yea ... this could explain it Flex wanted to stop it and start on the new one
-
-
i was a ocz dealer for a while and a lot of people were really ticked off and they really caused a lot of issues for us between ocz and flex. i had a bunch of outstanding orders i had to refund because we were simply told sorry no more... etc.. basically a lot of resellers got screwed on that deal and they had a lot of ticked off buyers as well that had deposits or paid for the systems already then were told sorry we cant sell you these anymore. i refunded more than 6 systems during that mess. i didnt sell them online either those were all locally.. imagine what bigger online resellers went through like rk and xotic. it sucked
not saying it was to the end user though. as i said the quality was good just the corp crap sucked.. -
Is it possible to import a screen onto the laptop?
somehow want to be able to use a LED screen....unsure how xD -
yes you can use other screens but no you can not use a led screen it will not work they would have to be ccfl. all the connections and cables are different also the leds are normally built into the lid where the m17x will not have those
-
and I guess for now we're just waiting on someone brave enough to open up their lcd to get us a model number
-
yeah i dont have one yet or i would. my friend will get his next week but im not sure he will want to open it up as soon as he gets it. all i need is a model number to see if its really dual lamp or not. the guy i know at samsung repair said to call him when i get a real model number and he will tell me for sure
-
thanks for your help Z
