i know id be pissed myself as the dual lamp is one of my main reasons for buying one of these. i love dual lamps screens. the sharp i had on my hp was awesome.
if these dont have dual lamp ill be honest im prob going to the sager after all
-
same here.. i had a fujitsu with a cmo dual lamp, best looking notebook screen I had ever seen. Every notebook since then pales in comparison. Which sager will have a dual lamp btw?
-
the 18.4" one almost positive it will
-
I tried to get some pictures of the bleed.. The pics dont do it justice. You can see it on the dark screen which is no surprise.. It is really bad in game and in movie... Unfortunately the camera would not capture it in a way to get the point across with the bleed and washed out colors..
It is worse in person than what the pics have it appear.
here are some pics of the bleed.
http://img35.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=img1617o.jpg
there seems to be a lamp at the top of the screen too.. I know that has been debated. -
honestly that is not that bad compared to some ive seen. almost every 17" panel has bleed trust me i go through a ton of them i replace panels all the time for people. i honestly dont think ive seen a 17" without any bleed but yours is leaning towards the worse side. if it was me id have that replaced though without question just remember the next one may be worse. and if you are going through dell they ALWAYS send refurbished panels to replace screens out with.. ive had more than a dozen of dell panels replaced..
looking at your second pic i personally do not think there is dual bulbs in that screen. if there is then the top one is really dim compared to the bottom one
can you take some pics of a solid black backround (you can set it to blank screen saver to take them) and make sure to get ones of the whole screen and a coser on of the top of the panel please??
ALL PANELS have some bleed wherever the bulb is. i will eat my words if im wrong but i still looking at that second pic do not think there is a bulb at the top. even on most desktop dual bulb screens you can see a small bit of light from both top and bottom. again ill eat my words but im basing it on the few pics ive seen so far of the screen at this time. -
or his bleed happens be bad at the bottom and little to none at the top.. at least thats what i hope because I really want one of these notebooks.
-
yea the bulb at the top is dim/ very little bleed compared to the bottom.
Yea that is why i am hesitant to get a replacement.. I want it fixed but then again I dont want to get a worse one...
Very frustrating...
Let me try to get one on the top.
Like i said the pics make it look better then what it is in real life. -
but see even single lamp panels can bleed from the top. im looking at one right now where you can see the light wrapping around the top of the panel. if there is only a tiny bit of light up there i dont think there is a bulb. the light travels up the panel and can come through anywhere it is not sealed or anywhere there is a small spot some even show up as lines up the whole screen where you can see them straight to the top. imo i would take advantage of the return policy of dell and just try to get a whole new system if it was me
-
-
Its hard trying to get the camera to capture it... lol
-
i still call bluff on this one.. imo it looks like a bit of light from the bottom bulb to me. realize how bright your bottom bulb is..
here is a review where sony said it was dual lamp they even put the dual lamp sticker on it but it only has a single one lol
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Sony-Vaio-VGN-FW11M-Notebook.10735.0.html
"We were curious about the new 16.4" wide screen in 16:9 format (up till now 16:10 is usual). A sticker on the notebook lures with the description "Dual Lamp Technology". A smaller * weakens the promise with the supplement "... selected models only". Unfortunately, the VGN - FW11M does not belong to these selected models. The user must therefore be content with only one background light. The consequence of this "economizing measure" is the considerably weaker brightness of the display. Averagely we could only measure 146 cd/m² (136:1 at maximum contrast). This, with the reflecting traits of the display surface suffices for not too light interiors. According to external tests from other media the models with Dual Lamp Technology shine up to 360 cd/m². The constant high resolution of 1600x90 pixels offers the user a broad desktop and a good overview.
Nonetheless, the image makes a good impression, although it seems a bit lutescent. Skin colors were regiven acceptably. The grey gradient comes across a bit stepped, though." -
I believe ya.. i just dont know besides taking it apart to be 100%...
If its not, then its false advertisement.. -
im not afraid to say i was wrong either... i actually HOPE I AM

Hi Kilthro,
Zfactor is right in that almost all LCD screen replacements are refurbished. However, keep in mind that not all refurbished LCD screen are used...... What you're seeing on your screen if fairly normal. Screen bleed is always going to look worse in the dark. Also, keep in mind that most Dell techs won't replace what isn't broken. We have to get approval to do so.
Gabe -
to me it is broke.. I cant use it.. many things are washed out as well.. -
well im placeing my order now
-
also if you call dell and tell them you are capable of doing this yourself they will send you the panel by itself it just takes a bit of doing. i never let the techs touch my own systems after they damaged my 1730 on me i do all my own work now and i have had dell send me motherboards, lcd's, etc they dont ever give me a hard time -
yeah some one else said it didnt give the model in everest which sucks. everest a lot of times will give it
-
my order won't go through its weird and i dont get my 3% off
for DPA purchase and says i have a error but shows no error
-
.
-
i Taled to Gabe and he gave me some one to call
so im calling in tommorw -

Maybe there was a box labeled "m17x LCD screens inside" and there was another box that said "M17x LCD screens inside" and the people in China/Malaysia were confused or didn't notice and just used the old box of LCD screens so only some people got 2 CFFL?
-
i highly doubt it
-
Hey Moo! What did you want me to look for on the inside???
BTW my LCD is LTN170CT11 -
This is what happens when I wake up in the middle of the night. I start disassembling my systems. lol
-
look around the GPU
the 9400m ( i think the chip is under that black cover crap)
there should be a chip with ICS or a crab...
there will be a PLL -
For Intel-based chipsets, it's usually on the ICS chip, near the processor. But according to this, the PLL number should be on the southbridge of the M17x, granted that nVidia hasn't done anything drastic with this MCP79 chipset. I looked at the pictures, and you'll probably need to remove the black covering on the motherboard to find the code.
from ichime

for pictures -
OK, I'll look around as soon as I'm done putting my back cover on.
-
Ah! where is zfactor.. so is LTN170CT11 a dual lamper or what
-
http://www.screentekinc.com/Samsung-LTN170CT.shtml
there is the closest i can find to your lcd
its only missing the 11 off the end -
hmm odd.. i look up LTN170CT 10 because google comes up with nothing when i search LTN170CT 11 and the LTN170CT 10 is LED backlit.. so still don't know what kind of backlight LTN170CT 11 has
-
there is no LTN170CT11
on the Samsung site. -
-
close up Pics alllllll around the MOBO under the black cover on the Nvidia GPU ... so that if you don't see it we may. They are usually very small so get the magnifier out -
-
take pics of the lcd model number and such too !
-
-
ooh ok great.. have you uploaded them anywhere yet ?
-
try out the program.
it doesn't have vista support.....
argghhhh
i thought their was a PLL but they were all in the same place -
-
well mandrake ....who here can test @ 3 in the morning
lemme look up FSB on google lol -
-
..... do you see a crystal around it ?
...
if you think you see something i would go for it ... -
I was able to get a decent pic of the Pericom chip which is next to the CPU fan which ironically is next to CPU and not on top or underneath it. I see a future mod project in this. Probably why I can get any good OC numbers with this system.
-
10 char. -
Send ME the PIC lol
-
i did find on pericom they made a chip for the MCP79 Chipset they could of made one for M17x
its for a PCI-e 1.1 though
M17x lcd
