-

yeah according to my info here im looking at it says only 200nits if that is correct no way its dual lamps it is a dell only part number from what i can find on it and it was made in 2008.
-
seems when i call to order today i will be demanding some supervisor
-
in clausee (not sure i spelled it right) unboxing vid you can clearly see the lighting from the bottom but again i dont see any hint of a top bulb
-
With a black background and viewing the screen at an angle looking down at it you can see some light from the top. Although it's much more obvious from the bottom. -
-
you mean brighter than the m17x or ??? not all screens bleed like crazy but ill bet on a black backround in a darker room you will see some light from those bulbs
-
Hola, so weve been tricked, most likely not dual bulb/lamp. Uncool, zfactor if you need to see a pic of my screen from any angle on offf let me know. Mine shows bleed from bottom. Luckily I'm not picky at all and I ignore it.
-
-
Could very well be a dual-bulb screen that's just too new to have proper Windows support.
-
this really upsets me that they would do something like that... How hard was it to pull the panel off and get the model number?
-
-
The backlighting for an lcd is hardware and has nothing to do with drivers or windows support for it. -
Mandrake did that and got the model number (should +rep him for it ;þ). We don't have any real info on that screen though.
-
sleey0 is correct it has nothing whatsoever to do with windows. does anyone who has the m17x have either eye one or spyder etc they can actually measure the nit rating? if anyone is near me and would like to see what it really is ill calibrate the screen for them while checking it..i have 4 different tools to use for calibration. let me know if interested
-
I was just commenting that there isnt a driver for the lcd installed... I have specific ones installed for all of my lcds that I have ever own... -
almost all notebooks do not have drivers for the lcd panels. that is very very rare
-
So, what should I do... Demand a replacement? The one that I have in my eyes is unacceptable.. I am just worried that I will get a worse one and that will tick me off to no end...
not to hyjack.. what is the software called that drives the touch controls up on the top right? I want to reinstall them to see if volume will work right.. -
Want me to run one of hose programs zfactor? eye one you said?
-
you cant just run the program you actually need the colorimeter to place on the screen and use to measure with
see here for some images of the optix one
http://images.google.com/images?hl=...=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=optix+colorimeter&spell=1
i personally use a few different ones since some give better results with different areas imo, i have spyder's newest unit, the display2, the optix xr, among others -
-
the sarasota area about 5-10 min south of it
-
I'll be in that area but not until mid july -
let me know when you'll be around no problem... shoot me a pm before you head down
-
Hrmm. So, if it's not a dual CCFL screen (one of the reasons I bought it) who do we contact? I don't have to have to send my laptop back for 3 or 4 weeks to get the screen replaced. I want Dell to send a tech with a proper LCD and fix it.
-
well we are not 100% yet. we will do more testing and see if its really 400nits as advertised this week
-
-
-
-
It still won't let me rep you or I would. I know the feeling though....seems I get more rep from cracking jokes then from when I answer questions or post news.
-
Guy ive found something very interesting!!
in this youtube video interview on the laptop (both play dark void) look @ the bottom of the laptop... no bleeding.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CM7rRnbpbY
but in this one u clearly see a slight bleeding on the bottom...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ez9g-R4v_0&feature=related
so i guess its just 50/50 if u get 1 or not? -

"All Powerful" eh? Since when does an "All Powerful" notebook have a crummy dim screen? Is this not 2009? How hard is it to pair a good notebook with a good screen? The screen is one of the most important aspects of a notebook because it interacts with one of our primary sensory organs for hours on end. I've wasted so much money trying to find a notebook with high end gpu along with an awesome display. I guess asus will get my money unless somehow this is rectified or we're proven wrong or something.
-
well that could be due to them not delivering on what they claim
-
I mean it even says in the specs pdf its dual ccfl! They thought no one would notice how dim the screen looked?
-
my friend gets his on tuesday looks like from the tracking number. i will run a calibration on it to see what the nit rating measures out at since he said he doesnt want me pulling it apart to look at the actual panel in case he wants to send it back or something.. lol he is a bit paranoid with these things
-
you are so right
But normaly we are funny enoght to feel still the love
Greetings

Provided you don't modify the laptop in any way, you should be able to return it less any restocking fee. Just make sure you handle all the items with kid gloves, and don't damage any of the accessories or you could be changed for those as well. -
They have always stated they may charge a restock fee on items that aren't defective, but now they are enforcing it.
I ordered a outlet SXPS 16 and I told them it got WAY too hot and the Dell logo was all beat up on the lid yet the item was not scratch and dent.
He didn't care. The only way I got out of the restock fee was by showing him my order number for my M17x purchase. -
I've ordered electronics on may occasions and have never been changed a restocking fee, regardless of the policy. I should add however that I took meticulous care in unboxing and handling these items, and reboxed them in Monk style fashion.
I guess technically they could have charged me, but appreciated my continued business more. -
not sure of dell, but AW had a 30 day no questions asked policy.
if outside the 30 days, then you were subject to the restock fee. -
see here for the complete policy online. -
anyone find out how to disable the auto contrast that the screen does?
Forexample, have a some what dar back grount. open notepad.. then maximize it, it will get super bright and then when you close it, nothing on the screen is even near the same brightness level -
I am just curious. I have mentioned the bleed and washed out colors quite a bit.. How is the viewing angles for all of you? The viewing angles really stink IMO... There is a small angle where it will look ok, outside of this, it is either too dark or to light... and I really havent found a perfect angle to have the screen to see the top and the bottom with the same level of darkness/brightness...
Man I love everything about this notebook but the screen.. This just erks me to no end...
Watching iron man on it right now and its ok but nothing to write home on.. and yes it is blue ray..
Nothing compared to the sxps16 rgbled...
And the response rate seems longer than 8ms.. really noticeable in movies... Maybe I am too picky.. maybe not.. just really bad screen...
I hope I can get this replaced once they can locate me in their database/systems.. -
i would pay extra for rgb led.
-
Maybe theres a way to get one from a M6400 and transplant it
doubtful but for someone with cash to burn it would be a fun experiment .
