Not true. I returned my M17 between 1-2 weeks after I received it, and was still charged the fee.

. if i had money to just toss around like that i would have already ordered the machine no questions asked .
i want to make sure i am making the right purchase here as i have owned WAY to many laptops over the years and been stung a few times in the process.
Good thing though either way if im not happy and i do have to return ill take the 15% hit if need be vs living with something i dont like.
I was torn between this and the M98nu Sager, but at this point i cant see a reason to go with the Sager over the Alienware. The alienware is just to beautiful with to many features i want (just hope they get to the bottom of this screen scenario soonish). -
i had a 30 day satisfaction guaruntee in my paperwork should i have chosen to use it.
all that was required was to pay the freight and insurance if sent back after getting the RMA.
sometimes if you dont read they will take advantage of the situation. -

IMO the question will be are they going to charge a restocking fee for item that may or may not be as advertised. I am sure there are many legal loop holes they can attempt, the question will be how far are you willing to take it. I for one, will not let it stand, but I am fortunate to have a brother that is a business/corp lawyer so my cost is minimal. All big Corps are counting on the consumer not wanting to pursue a complaint of any kind, but this may be all be for not if it turns out it is a 2 bulb ccfl and is just a crappy screen, I don't know yet as I am still in boxing so i have not seen it with my own eyes. Hopefully we will find that out soon and zfactor can track it down. By the way ty zfactor for your effort.

Guess this just goes to show how naive I can still be. Ugh. -
some times if its for a very good reason or you annoy them enough they will not deduct it
-

I still prefer the M980NU lid... But I'm not going to take polycarbonate + bigger form factor + bigger & heavier power brick for a slight better design lol. -
I found an old photo I snapped of my old fujitsu notebook with the dual lamp cmo lcd. You will notice light leakage being almost completely absent. This was definitely a quality screen.
-
i still see some
-
Yea but is appears far less then what I have..
My wife is not a computer person and never notices any flaws in screens or with electronics in general ect.. seriously I always have to point things out and she says that I am too picky..
however, she noticed the excessive bleed on this screen. She walked up and asked if that was normal...
So if she noticed it then it is really bad.. seriously I didnt even have to point it out. -
-
Has Z verified that the LCD is 1 or 2-CFFL yet?
-
-
Not that I know of.. I hope soon.

That was good!!!! -
-
im away from the office for a while today ill get a call in as soon as possible

CMO also makes crappy ones (see M1330/1530).
-
yes they do.. most of the cmo screens are very nice though rare they seem to put out a bad model
-
I had 4 1330 replacements - ALL with bad CMO screens.
The 5th had a Toshiba which was better.
Meh... my point is that all manufacturers have there issues. -
100% they do. what i meant with cmo is it seems to be limited to a specific model. in other words like the wsxga cmo panel they use in the msi 1651 i have seen personally over 12 of those units and they have all been great panels not a single dead pixel no light bleed etc.. but the one they used in the 1530 imo sucked. but that was a different model panel.. see what i mean

your pretty experienced with this stuff and I wanted to know if I buy an lcd, say off ebay, will it work with the M17x?
Not trying to go LED or anything just want a WSXGA 17" CCFL panel. -

I have confirmed that both the WXGA+ and WUXGA screens are in fact dual lamp CCFL, and have about 400 nits brightness.
-
What model panel comes in the 1440x900 flavor chaz?
-
OK EVERYONE
Just got my M17x and I'm liking it so far. The screen (WXGA+) has minor bleed at the bottom but is fairly bright. In my device description it shows 2 CCFL (see pic). I don't know if it is but it is allright (not sure if this res is going to work for me).
Also, Device ID says SEC5442.
Someone maybe could help with one thing though - I am getting flashing/strobing on web pages (like the HP advertisement on this page). What's up with that? Also when I use the space bar to scroll down I get the whole page flashing.Attached Files:

so sleey its pretty bright? What about color, angles etc..? Sounds like I might order mine soon.
-
That happened to me as well. I noticed my stealth was enabled and when I closed Internet explorer and restarted, it went away. I haven't had the problem since then. -

Thx bubba - that fixed it
Any yes, this display is matte underneath, but has the same edge-2-edge glossy plastic front covering it. -
I just got my M17x today. And the screen is not TOO bad. The only problem is that if there's not a lot of white on the screen or colors then the brightness kinda goes down a bit. Also i did get a bit of light leakage but i'm pretty sure everyone does.
-
sleey0 do you think its 400nits?? i think you have a decent idead of what it looks like. i saw the wuxga today and tbh i dont believe this is dual bulbs. no offense at all chaz dont take it that way. imo no way this panel is 400 nits unless there is something stopping it from going up that high and yes it was plugged in. also ill call the guy i deal with at samsung and tell him what chaz said was confirmed because he told me the model shown of the wxga+ was single bulb.. ill let them deal with it after that
-
I don't know.
Could you tell me how many nits the sony Z540 screen is? That's what my wife has and it is LED and VERY bright.
I could compare the two if I knew how many nits at least one of them are. -
do you know the model of the sony screen to check specs?? is it A LOT BRIGHTER then the 1730.. the samsung 1730 was just over 200nits, the lg panel was about 280. have you seen either of those?
-
Our Sony FW is 350 nits I believe and my M17x is not that bright.
-
IIRC Toshiba makes the screens for Sony (so check for 13.1" LED in 1366x768 and 1600x900).
-
once i get one to calibrate we will for sure know if its really a 400nit screen. and i will test with colorimeter and a spectro as well. -
It's too hard to tell, but if I had to guess I'd say that the M17x is about 300 nits.
The LED screen on the sony just puts out sooooo much different light -
well then we know its a Dual bulb if its putting out 300 nits
-
I do think mine is a dual bulb
Guess it paid to go with the WXGA for now..... -
wait so the 1440x900 is matte? Is that 1920x1200 glossy or matte
-
neither one is matte
-
-
sleey did you check your PMs.. pmed you a while ago
-
i thought it was edge to edge glass? thats what i heard in a alienware tech vid
