well the screen itself can be either matte or glossy with the edge to edge on top of that. Was wondering if the screen underneath the edge to edge was matte or glossy.
-
The WXGA+ is matte while the WUXGA is glossy.
-
o yes matte will be the screen under the E2E
but sill glossy on the outside -
Right, moo.
I'd pay extra for a matte e2e display -
Well since I don't like matte screens should I just get the 1200p? or does the e2e make it glossy enough.
-
and since your pms are broken i guess.. do you have to make any adjustments in the nvidia control panel in regards to color, brightness, gamma and digital vibrance? Or is it fine as it is?
-
Sorry malignant... Haven't checked my pm's since this am.
Anyway, yes I did make changes to the desktop colors/contrast/brightness/etc.
They are both going to be glossier than you'd like (I like when screens have some gloss to make the colors pop, but these e2e displays are getting a little redonkulous) -

Alienware probably didn't use a glossy screen underneath the edge-to-edge glass because of reflection issues.
The edge-to-edge displays are very reflective, even more so that traditional glossy displays; I have one on my HP. The one unspoken advantage of an edge-to-edge display over regular glossy displays is its ease of cleaning. The display has a very hard surface on it and you don't need to be as careful when cleaning.
If any of you guys are looking to calibrate your displays, consider buying this device:
http://www.amazon.com/ColorVision-S..._1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1245783023&sr=8-1
I use it on all my monitors including my laptop's display and it works great. Before using it on my HP the screen appears washed out, but afterwards the contrast is much more realistic. It's not going to turn your display into something you would use for professional photo editing but it will definitely help visual quality. -
THANKS Chaz
ill look into it .... see what i can afford after this car -
Ok just got back from bestbuy to see if they had the new asus g71s in but nope. I did notice one thing though, the macbook pro notebook's displays are amazing in terms of quality. It's a very sharp, not super bright but bright still, crisp clean looking lcd. Then I went to look at all the pc notebooks and man they all look terrible in comparison. So whatever notebook I get next has to have a very good screen and it doesn't seem like the new M17x is gonna be it. And I know the pc notebooks at BB all use single ccfl while macs use LED but still I know there are quality LCDs for pc notebooks too. I just have to find it (along with a high end gpu of course).
-
So sleey have you seen any of those macbook pro notebooks? Was also wondering how you would compare your M17x's screen to them if you could.
-
-
Nope. Don't care too either
I don't know anyone with a mb and there aren't any stores near me to go look at.
I think the screen is mediocre for this type of product, but it isn't a deal breaker either.
It's going to come down to personal preference, as always.... -

^
My screen is matte underneath. So if I could get some kind of non-reflective e2e I'd be happy -
-
That would be an impressive mode. You might be able to talk to some type of glass replacement company to give some suggestions.

thats ridiculous
Samsung doesn't even know what LCD's they make?
-
-
Whats the model again? i have 2 samsung notebook displays in...notebooks lol.
Will see if they are any of these. -
look @ the first POST
-
I am very interested in getting this. -
Does this spyder2 measure brightness too?
-
Parents just bought my sis a new 17' unibody Macbook Pro for high school, and as soon as Alienware confirms whether or not they're going to produce the red ATI version or not I'll gladly do some side by side comparisons of a true 17' screen faceoff when I buy a M17x, although I have feeling I'll be waiting at least another month for some news on the red version..
-
My m17x has been in production since 6/8 and since its still in production when i get it the screen better be what i payed for. Seriously they make us pay 4000 dollars for an amazing hardware to make games look amazing, but then they just give us a horrible screen so we cant even see it at its best.
-
I think this edge-2-edge business either needs to stop, or they need to come up with a glass material that isn't so reflective.
I think if they did that the screen wouldn't be so bad. -
I wish -
Never seen the HP infinty briteview stuff....
Is it really any less reflective? -
There made from the matte material of screens but they have semi glossy shine, They are vibrant and arbsorb light nicely.
Maybe screens will get better soon enough. -
Actually, if Dell would have put a 400 nit screen in it then I'd be willing to forget about the glossyness
-
-
Well the infinty display is HP's E2E and I haven't seen one so maybe it is a little different.
Sony's xbrite screens are still some of the best on notebooks IMO (at least my wife's xbrite w/duraview which is more matte than gloss. I heard the xbrite eco screens are slightly above average).
Trulife just = glare type -
M17x use glass or transparent plastic?
-
plastic......

zfactor we are waiting patiently for your final results.

Seems lame to skimp and go plastic over glass on the LCD when they built the machine out of aluminum. Maybe for weight and of course to keep the costs down for both themselves and the customer but still I'd prefer the glass
Look forward to finding out how this lcd works out before I make a move on one of these -
Meh... I could care less (at least plastic doesn't break as easy as glass).
My lcd is fine. Overall the system is very solid -
Sleey you gonna crack open that lcd casing and tell us what model the panel is?
-
Not right now
It is a pain - I'll get to it eventually! -
i just need a system in my hands. my freind missed his today he missed the delivery now he has to wait till tomm
-
What will you be using to test the brightness?
-
So zfactor, this device here can give a brightness reading?
