What were the 3DMarks for the 460M?
EDIT: When I go to bed I will leave furmark running until I get back tomorrow to stress test it.
EDIT 2: Also, what app can I run to overclock? NVTune or something?
-
lets get 3d working first lol, clevo driver, you have 120hz enabled so 3D should not be a problem, this is something simple i think.

Result 20,784 w/ OC of 650/1300 & 1600 Memory. Not very much improvement IMO.
-
those are huge numbers, R2's with oc'ed cpu and gpu's are just past those numbers, oc the cpu which makes a big difference in 06 and you'll be pushing 24k, I'd say very few Dell laptops have hit those numbers, very very impressive mate. -
Black Alienware M17X R2 || i7 940XM | X-Fire ATI 5870 | BIOS A10 MOD | 320GB Intel X-25M SSD RAID 0 | 1TB Internal Storage Drive | 8GB 1333 MHz | RGB LED | N 6300 | USB 3.0 | Win 7 Ult | NuForce uDAC-2 Audio | Blu-ray Burner (Converted to External) | Vantage: 21012 | 3DMark06: 23720

Vantage is a better gauge of a GPU's ability. 06 is apparently quite CPU bound.
Nice work. It's really too bad about the 3D. -
You've done an excellent job so far LVNeptune. I'm looking forward to pics and more details about this "retention clip" switch and "heavy modification" required.
-
Awesome job, BTW! -
Are the graphic cards hard to install? Is there a step by step guide?
I was on rjtech and was going to purchase the 485m a d the 2920xm, I'm just not sure how to install them in a laptop. I have done desktop installs before but not laptop ones. -
Here, Mandrake made a video when has was trying if the Ati 5870 would work.

No crashing or anything overnight running Furmark, temperature is stable around 67-69c @ full load, without my notebook cooler.

I had an issue getting 3D to work on my projector. The same issue as you are having...Stereoscopic 3D would not enable as the projector was not whitelisted. After hours and hours I found that I could force install drivers for another display panel that was whitelisted and that did the trick. I was able to turn on 3D and it works perfectly.
You can give it a try...use the 'browse - Have Disk' feature in control panel for your display...

Hope this helps the 3D to work! -

Yea the fact we now have a card at least operating on a 120hz is screen is fantastic right now, and I'm sure eventually well get the 485m with the S3D, even if we have to wait for alienware.

try this:
NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Automatically Find Drivers For My NVIDIA Products
on internet explorer
or this:
NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search
product type: 3d vision
product series: 3d vision
product: full driver CDs for notebook PCs or 3D vision driver for Geforce -
Awesome work LVNeptune.

Maybe a new thread from LVNeptune with all the benchs and pics ?? No ?

I just got off the chat log with a sales rep. I was asking about getting the 6970m as an upgrade. FYI its $400 +tax and is available now. Out of curiosity I asked about how much it would cost to upgrade to the 120Hz screen instead as well. The answer I got from the sales team is that I should not upgrade now since soon there will be another GPU available that is better than the 6970m. They actually told me not to buy anything now and said I should wait for the better GPU.
Of course I asked what it was and even mentioned the GTX 485m and they said there wasn't enough information right now to say which one it will be. But they did confirm that the new (better than the 6970m) GPU will be 3D compatible.
Just wanted to mention what they told me just about 30 min ago. -
interesting

I've got some possible solutions to LVNeptune's stereoscopic issue, and the fact my clevo infs didn't work is exactly related to the fact his card is using a Dell subsys id vendor branding.
I'll PM LVN with some solutions and see what can be worked out, I read through a comments here and got up to speed on what was already tried. -
Thats why I figure they will be bringing the 485m out soon. From what he said to me I know it has to be nVIDIA and being "better than the 6970m" I figure it has to be the 485m.
Just my opinion though -
That GPU is obviously 485M because it is the only one that is "better" than 6970M and is able to 3D. Question is when? Cannot be that long since he adviced you to wait when you wanted a new notebook now is it?
-
I cant see why they would pass up me willing to pay for the 6970m right now unless very shortly they could get more money from me for the 485m. So therefore I believe it will be coming out very shortly. Once again, just my opinion.
Of course I do not currently have the 120Hz screen so I may end up simply getting the 6970m anyway. But who knows. -
Well they removed the Nvidia 460M+3D bundle discount price. Maybe that's a sign? lol.

Well its Dell tactics, seen in before with the Studio and the previous XPS line. -

Most likely will be the 485m but still there's other possibilities.

Don't know what you mean that the 3d bundle is no longer available... It's still available in on the us site, but it is way overpriced. It is now 2074.00 from 1799.00 with no added bonuses...
-
That's what he said is that the discount is not there anymore. You can still get the 3D bundle just for full price.
-
navywings, are you a navy pilot?
-
So IF the 485m was released, how much do you think it would cost to buy it off dell? I would sell the 460m of course, which i believe nets 300-400(somebody confirm/negate this).
-
from dell will be at least $650
-
That's not too bad. Especially if it is guaranteed to work, since the RJtech cards and Mxmupgrade, etc. are a lot more expensive, and require a lot of tampering with to work.

I remember buying a 7800 card from dell (i think 7800) to upgrade my Inspiron 9300 back in the day (my first 17" gaming notebook).
-
cool, just curious. considering becoming a navy chaplain this year.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
RJtech is 750, but if its from dell, it will come with the proper heatsink and they can insure it under your warranty. Dell tech can switch out your spec list for you, for that I'm willing to pay the extra premium.

For having 3D with gtx485m, if someone can edit inf file to include gtx485m,
you can do it with the Nvidia Driver v270.51 BETA, because 3D Vision Controller driver is now included on it.

Yea im really excited now, since it seems Neptune almost has his going with the 3D kinks worked out soon maybe, and Alienware seems like they are gearing up to release their 485m's as well.... I may have to hold off at least 2-3 weeks to see if Dellienware has something up their sleeve.
-
may have to sell my ipad 2 just to get the card... or my macbook air...
