M17x-R2 - out with HD5870

You'll be surprised. The CF option will most likely cost the same if not less than the 4870s
5870s are much cheaper.

 

isnt it strange? is this a result of cheaper manufacturing cost or something else? i dont want to say something here but the same happens with most of the i7 cores (except 920xm) in comparison with the qx9300 and this had an effect on benchmark too (power)..

i was just wondering if you have seen the 5870 issues with 2d which are attributed to the driver and are thought to be fixed on the 10.4 driver (not sure) which is still beta . so they may wait for its official release which must not take much longer. maybe this is the reason they dont offer CF 5870s yet. still cant understand why they offer single 5870 though it this is the reason.

Kinda doubt there will be an R3. Dark said there wont be any chassis modifications or revisions until next year...

 

R3 won't happen until Sandy Bridge.

The different revisions signify a major change, for example the new P55 platform. Not just a new GPU. lol

Not sure if even Sandy Bridge would classify as an entire platform upgrade.

 

So there WILL BE 5870CF SOON? Damn! I need to save up quick!!!

You've got a dang nice history with audio gear. I can't wait till I get out of the house and won't be criticised for buyig 230$ headphones . If all goes well I'm planning on buying an amp as well, though from what I'm reading the ahd2000's don't neccesarily need it.

I still keep checkin in here from time to time and honestly i would never have sold my M17x if i could stand the noise the machine made while gaming... WAY to loud for my tastes but other then that it was an amazing machine ...

My interest in all things laptops is waning though i think and my eyes are back on my desktop but as usual that will probably change again at some point ... Depending what mobile Fermi brings or something new ATI will im sure peak my interest and it may be another Alienware if they can bring the noise levels down ALOT ...

I wouldn't agree until I watch them pop up on the website. I still remember the rumor from end of Feb, end of Mar to end of Apr. Though single 5870 is a positive signal.

 

I can't wait until I see dual 5870's on the Canadian site, I'll have them within a month or so.

Yeah just noticed they are now giving out McAfee 15 months in the base price. I was going to pull the trigger on 4870 CF a couple of weeks ago but then i saw the 5870 appear on the european pages! Now just holding on like you for the 5870 CF
But seriously this waiting game is killing me...
