Chatting with Dell rep right now. He is telling me I can order CF 5870 right now, price 486 euro. Was 388 euro 2 days ago...
-
-
After a couple of minutes he said I can get for 388
-
Which do ye think is better for playing games on this system, the 620 or 720 (not including the price difference)?
The alienware guy offered/recommended the 620 as a free upgrade. -
620 all the way.
-
Sweet. I was hoping to get that answer as i ordered it yesterday (from Shashank Patel funnily enough). Was a little worried i got "upgraded" to a lesser system.

my order with CF 5870s is confirmed. the factory is waiting for system base. anyone knows what this is? the chassis maybe?
-
GOOD NEWS for u guys from AU (although i know the first rule here is do not trust dell rep)
my rep just call me and i was told that 5870CF will be available in AU some day in May, probably the mid of May. Due to AU always gets update one or two weeks later than US or EU countries. I think u guys may be able to config in early May. -
Did he say anything about how much it would cost?
-
Just wondering how much do the CF cards cost? And any news on purchasing from Dell US?
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
no idea. its a replacement for me so free. but i would guess not far from 4870s CF (or maybe less as some people here said) because it was included in the total price of replacement.
anyone knows what the system base is? this delays my order. -
I asked him, but no idea about the price. i think it should less than A$500 upgrade from 5870. Currently 5870-->4870CF cost A$429.9 which already went up from A$385 (4870-->4870CF)
-
in AU dollars or US?
-
in AU dollars

Some news for you Nvidia fanboys waiting on Fermi to come to the M17x.
Report/rumor from Fud today is that the G104 and G108 may not be entirely the same Fermi architecture (it will be a lesser form)...it has been taped out though.

i'we talk'd to 2 different guy's from dell Norway now, and the first one hadn't a clue, the second one said most likely next week :3
-
Well becoming the 'new' 8800GT definitely sounds promising, but succesorto fermi? Fermi is brand new, why are they releaseing newer architecture already? Regardless, June is going to be one heck of a month.
-
Dell, especially alienware will not deny service because of user upgrades. They won't warrant the new product, unless you buy it through them (hence $1000 for a i920XM) but should something go wrong they'll at least replace it with what the computer originally came.
they're not suggesting a completely new arch, what nvidia is doing is hacking up fermi so they can provide a lower cost (via smaller die size) lower power fermi to the mainstream (aka middle-ground) segment. You don't have to pummel your competitor to the ground with a new product these days, you just have to be *about* as good, and more importantly, do it cheaper and sell it faster. We won't be seeing new Flagship products from Fermi2, the fudzilla article is talking purely about the lower-medium cost market, so cutting out some features makes sense. -
Well for one Fermi was delayed for almost half a year meaning it's only brand new to the consumer...to Nvidia it's already at least 2 years old.
Second what Fud's calling Fermi 2 really isn't an update to the desktop Fermi GPU, and it's only new because they've never released a version of the tech before.
For all we know it could be a "newer" G92 core with DX11 support. -
Whatever mobile Fermi so called, it may take DELL another half year to put into AW. Maybe even longer....I will be happy with 5870CF if it comes in May.
-
Unless you like purchasing a new M17x every 6-8months, you'll have to be.
-
I believe the late summer/early fall rumor of a new nvidia option. Just don't know if it will be "fermi".
or every 3 months like me. My 4th one is on order. -
lol.. I'm only my 2nd system and I'm already tired of the cycle. Nvidia in summer, Sandy bridge in January, it will never end, so the best solution (or at least the cheapest) is to just ignore it
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The "cycle" never ends...it only speeds up..
-
Not true. Whether it's because of the economy, because computers are already fast enough, or because Moore's Law sees that brickwall up ahead the cycle has slowed down.
For example, one of the reasons Apple was rumored to be looking at AMD mobile APUs was because Intel has slowed down their tick-tock scheme and pushed back release dates on it's CPU roadmap after Sandy Bridge. -
How long was it from ordering to confirmation?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I'll believe that when I see it. The economy is rebounding and Intel has already planned a low end and later in 2011 a higher end sandy bridge. I don't see the cycle ending. Not to mention the nVidia and AMD (ati) war that WILL continue for the foreseeable future. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
well right now its at stage 3 : working. it went directly to this stage as its a replacement so it was less than 24 hours since ordered. By the way my EDD is end of May damn.
whats this sytem base guys? noone knows? -
I agree, I don't think it's really slowing down, We had to endure Willamette and all it's variations for *much* longer than Yonah and it's derivatives. Even so, we really are pushing the limits of SOI CMOS technology, I wouldn't expect Silicon products to last more than a decade unless they find a way to magically make transistors work without massive power bleeding. -
Wow, thats snappy. He said he would put it straight into production for me so hopefully it wont take too long. I'll be happier when I can track it. If only I wasn't so impatient
-
Where do you get the money Mandrake?
-
Sell off your old one, you don't need *tons* of money.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
you can track it with customer and order number as i do. you can ask for them if you have not them.
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/order/status.aspx
you ordered with CF 5870s as well? -
It sounds like it is the chassis, the system board or a name dell has for the whole laptop minus all configurable parts. It's hard to imagine they are low on those parts though.
-
I work for a living.
I used to get it from sleey0's trust fund but that ran dry.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
yes i was thinking the same. out of chassis? strange.. -
crap in canada the cfx option shows 4870 whie the single card shows 5870
-
Ya, CF 5870s. Have been waiting since before the R2. I only have a Booking Reference number. I havn't got my order confirmation yet and supposedly I get my order number then.
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
yes this is the normal process with new orders.
i just received an email from the -trusted guy- . this system base means everything from motherboard, chassis, connectors. whatever they are out of fuel. at least i hope i got priority. -
Here is the US it's usually referred to as the "base system". lol
-
My order says "Werk in uitvoering" which means as much as: "Work in Progress". The website tells me my order is being prepared for production.
-
I was just teasing. I am sure you work... We all do actually or most of us...
-
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
prepared for production is an explanation for work in progress nothing special than waiting for parts. I guess Dutch and UK systems are both manufactured in the factory in Poland so we have the same fate
i wonder if just one US customer has ever seen this in his order. i remember during first R1 months US customers getting it in one week or so and i needed 50 days.
i hope the story wont be repeated now. this time for replacement which is supposed to be delivered faster. -
Mandrake do you sell those slightly used AW's or trade 'em in?
Anyone catch the Engadget article on the AW shipping with the 5870CF config? They didn't mention availability from specific countries. And amazingly the source was... Notebook Review
-
I sell them and the source was this thread which clearly means they don't know how to read.
-
The M17x's are manufactured in China & the Alienware desktops are done in Poland.
-
Yet \Dell doesnt sell a single Desktop unit in Poland
-
What is the chipset in this version of the Alienware please?
-
They technically don't manufacture anything either.
PM55. -
Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
thats what i was told. i knew for China too (my R1 was from china) but this guy knows something more. -
My R1 was from China too, allthough I don't understand why it couldn't be able to be assembled in Poland? Wages are low there aswell. So why ship the whole machine from China?
Poland is part of Europe and the transport costs would be cut dramaticly.
As parts can be shipped instead of flown, which would result in less costs aswell. Plus it would explain the absence of the RGB-LED for a while in the European country's... And putting it boldly good stock of 5870 cards what resulted in European CF.
Just a thought.
