i guess because parts are manufactured in China. assembly is a different thing. so here comes the question. if they are assemplied in China why they have lack of parts?

After seeing all these posts which got me excited, I decided to call dell US myself and the rep that I spoke to said the 5870's are indeed available in cf. Just wanna make sure if anyone has got the same response so I can rest assure that the rep knows what he's doing?
-
My opinion is that I would wait until they show online because Dell reps are not the most reliable source and they might not be available just yet. -
Guys I need your help I want to order the m17x R2 with the cx 5870 but the AW Portuguese website isn't working what should I do??
-
I know that notebookcheck.net is not the most reliable website in the world but for what is worth they've add the 5870CF at #1 on their benchmark list (even though there are no benchmarks yet).

I won't be ordering until the EPP site has them.
-
E-mailed my rep asking If I could configure early with him instead of someone different on the phone(like Jimbo...)
-
ah, I can't wait anymore. I'll be heading back for summer and I can't wait to have my hands on the m17x.
Anyone knows if UK charges custom or vat for laptops? I heard somewhere that they don't .. -
I can order one for you as I see there is no Alienware in Portugal? -
Dang, just spoke with EPP sales (I'm in US) for a replacement R2 system with dual 5870s but he said it wasn't an option (only xfire 4870) and didn't know when it would be available. At least Customer Service told me I have till 5/14 to return my system for full refund. If Cinco de mayo is the day, I'll still have plenty of time to return and reorder.
-
How can you do it? There was a AW portuguese website but now I don't if they are going to continue -

So I wonder who's going to be the first to receive their dual 5870m system? I'm sure those that order it through spare parts will have a dual 5870m setup before everyone else but I'm talking about new orders. I'll definitely not be the first since I plan to wait on EPP and that portion of the dell website tends to lag by 2-3 days.
I think the initial vantage run with a 920xm should yield about 14.5k-15k (with no changes to the mip map settings in the CCC etc..just default). The 820m setup (which I plan to get) will probably hit about 14k.
For hardcore gamers + overclockers, I'd highly recommend going for the 820m processor over the 920xm. The reason being the bios power trip point for these systems, the R2 with the dual 5870s will consume less power overall than the dual 4870s but when the GPU's are heavily OC'd, it will quickly reach the power trip point of the R2 and you will without a doubt see some flickering in games that tax the system hard--a good example being GTA IV. Finally, another point to consider is that the 920xm runs hotter than the 820m and thus puts more strain on the cooling system. Since the 5870s run quite hot as is, the internal heat buildup will be considerably higher than the dual 4870m systems. This will probably lead to the system running it's fans at higher RPM than usual. Thus, ideally, a 720/820m + 5870m xfire seems the best route. -
I thought i7 620 would be preferred over i7 720? Referring to this post.

Ya, at the US Alienware Computers - Custom-Built Gaming Desktops and Laptops you can have the option for a single 5870 card but not crossfire 5870's option yet. WHEN!!!!?????

I'm so angry at this thread!!! I've been lurking since the first post and obsessively checking it all day long... My EDD for my m15x is a week from today and this post has me 2nd guessing my choice of the m15x over the m17x... I don't NEED the dual 5870's nor the bigger screen and I will be hauling it around daily so the m15x makes more sense. But the sheer awesomeness of the dual 5870's has me wanting this laptop so bad... *sigh*

next week i'm going to ask a dell rep why the price of an m17x is so much higher than an equally spec'd asus g73 :b(use as an base for getting some discount's ofc)
-
at least it won't work in AU.
-
It's your own laptop so noone will charge extra when crossing borders. I'm sure coz I bought a lappy in CZ and brought it to UK where I study.
Noone even looked at laptop lol.
However, they may charge you if they think you gona sell it. Hence my advice, don't carry it in the original box, use laptop bag.

still not worth it, for the price between an m17x and asus g73 i can buy a better stationary gamer than the fullspecd m17x (other prices here in norway)
-
something u can not judge by price/performance ratio
-
Personally no matter what synthetic tests may show, I won't opt for a dual core system. The future is with quad or higher optimized applications and the results may change between the 620/720 by then. I think the best middle ground solution is to go for an i820, it has the same cache as a 920xm but consumes less power and runs cooler. -

yes what i'm trying to say is that i'm going to bring this up to the rep with intension's of getting some discounts :3
-
I am thrilled with the 620 thus far.
-
Do you have access to any left 4 dead 2 timedemos? I was hoping you + someone with a 5870/920xm setup could run it and see what the difference comes out to. Source games are traditionally very CPU heavy and do tend to scale well with quad core systems. Would like to see how well the 620m keeps up. -
IMO, most "Core-i" procs will do for now. We see already what happens to them under stress.
-
not much IMO.Quads 4 sure are good if they can be utilized to there full potential .

thanks :b
i just hope i get some discounts, because this monster is expensive -
There's a lot more quad friendly games now than in 2007. The list continues to grow:
1. Dragon Age: Origins CPU benchmarks - 75 percent boost for quad-cores - Dragon Age Origins, CPU, Benchmark, Performance - PC Games Hardware
2. UT3, L4D Series, GTA4 (triple core), Mass Effect, BFBC2 etc -
well guys I'm back to waiting for 5870 CF now. Since single 5870s are out, It convinced me to return my R1 and finally get the R2.
-
shall i buy this or the Asus G73jh or the RAP4 Xpower 2010 paintball gun ?
it's gotta be one of them and i have to choose wisely. -
Paintball gun if you play regularly. You'll get exercise out of it and it's more fun than playing a simulated game. I wish I knew people that played locally.
M17x-R2 - out with HD5870
