Never. Believe. What. A. Representative. Says.

This is ridiculous, of course they won't give you the right date for two reasons:
1. They have no idea.
2. They are sales reps, therefore they want the sale NOW not tomorrow. They will tell you anything that would make you decide your purchase sooner. -
their manager probably has no clue also
-
I heard they are actually 5850s and being release the beginning of July.
(print that Engadget) -
Sometimes they may tell you the truth, sometimes they may tell you "in a month or two" to move you to buy now. Mix that in with sometimes they are just "misinformed" on the latest "best guess" from management as to a due date. That due date can have a regional flux to it (introductions often vary dates of introduction by region), when they expect the "supply" to be available for ordering, and what the backlog situation will look like.
What's funny is that I'm going to bet that if you order on the day of introduction, or if you order 3 weeks later, you might very well get resulting machines on the same date, since much of this has to do with inventory levels and production runs that determine when a whole mass of machines is ready for sale. -

I wonder why the pulled the 1333mhz memory from the config page as well? I was going to use the 8gb that's in my current machine anyway, but just wondering.

I sincerely hope the dual 5870 config appears soon.

I'd love to see Michael Dell be that enthusiastic about Alienware products lol!Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
God this forum needs a 'like' button.
That video is full of win however. It would be nice if he was enthusiastic like that, but maybe less sweaty. -

I wonder what Dell has told IGN...

Called today to see if I could get a quote for 5870XF, lady said it wasn't possible to with the M17x. Duh...
Guess I'll just wait for it to come up on the site. -
Okay, got off the phone with my rep here in Canada.
At first he told me that it would take six months to become available here after it becomes available in the US (lol wut) but after I pointed out to him that the single is already available here and the only difference would be another card physically in there and the cable he seemed to drop that line.
For now I have my older sort of on hold until more info comes out.
Although honestly guys, would I be better off just ordering it with a single 5870 then putting the other card in myself later? -
I don't get why do you guys keep calling reps asking when it's gonna come? It's a complete waste of time. Do something more useful - like stare at the blank wall.
-
-
No, everyone should wait for the actual Crossfire option to be available from Dell.
We all know it's coming soon. -
You're putting your trust in a sales rep that's in India? ROFLMAO!
-
-
The only probable thing I see you could achieve by calling is having your rep pack you up with 4870 CF...
-
honestly i don't see the harm in calling them to order. If they go ahead with the 5870 xfire order and it turns out to be false. All you have to do is argue a bit and you'll get free upgrades. I see it as a win-win.
-
-
I didn't say there is any harm. You can return it of course anyway. It's just one big waste of time. I see it as a:
00.1 % getting 5870 CF (Win)
99.9 % wasting quite a bit your time on a discount applied to wrong configuration (Lose) -
You could possibly do the same thing. Check it over, make sure it says 5870 x2 or whatever then accept the order, or if it says something different, yell at him and ask to speak to a manager. Then proceed to get free stuff/upgrades. -
From India. My order is ''In progress'' (ordered while CF 5870 was still available online).
Rep pushed me really hard to purchase another M17x with CF 5870, even gave me a discount yesterday. I have his contact details in case I decide to buy. -
The AW or Dell sales reps are not able to write the technical details to be ordered meaning they must choose from a list similar to what we do when ordering online. There is no way they have the CF 5870 or as you put it 5870 X2 option.
It just does not make sense.
Yes it was available for a few days outside of the US and so far no one has one of those PC's. Even if those configs gets shipped out most likely they won't receive the 5870 CF but most likely 4870 CF and Dell will just argue it was an honest mistake...
Anyways, only time will tell but yes the CF 5870 are coming soon and the Nvidia Fermi based solution will hopefully be here before Christmas. -
