Hmm, this is very intriguing... wondering if I can get mine upgraded to a 5870 since it just arrived last Thursday.

5870's available is very good news indeed, though!

lol, I expect Striker to pop in sooner or later with a "first official owner" sig for the 5870s but that won't be true. ;)

Now I need to figure out a way to get a pair of these. For some reason I don't think Dell will be too eager to sell them separately, I think they'd rather just sell them in new laptop's.

Don't worry, I'll get an extra pair and sell to someone in Canada for way over sticker price. It's the American way. ;)

Edit: Nothing about it on Engadget. They're too busy depositing all their checks from Steve jobs.

Oh dear I was secretly thankful of Dell for not releasing these cards as I knew it was saving me a fortune. Now that they are out, I want.

What's going to be the the best deal on these - EPP?

10% EPP, $50 dollar coupon for signing up for their spam and then possibly another 3% for using DPA although that last one you may have to call because it's not advertised.

Wow they already offer the hd 5870 crossfire option in Belgium aswell, normaly we run behind for weeks, if not months. A fully rigged m17x costs 3033€, not bad since they used to be like 3400€.

Nice. I've found EPP discounts for CA & US but nothing for Australia anywhere.

A staff member in the employee benefits area of my organisation queried DELL for me and they were advised that EPP Discounts are not offered on Alienware as they are 'specialised' products.

I can afford it without, but the saving from an EPP discount would definitely be handy in going towards a SSD!

The switch 4870>5870 didn't cost me nothing but then again the money was still on it's way. :D

When the 4870s were released everyone sat in pre-production for two weeks, it took a while to get them out to people.

I will heavily consider one of these come July. That is when I should have an income and a regular job - until then I am moving around too much anyway (going to WY for a month after graduating)

So I can wait and see how they do first :)

That's good! Can't wait for the first reports/benchmarks/troubleshooting by the Notebook review elite before pledging my allegiance to Alienware and the M17xR2. Given that the 5870 is a tiny bit less power hungry than the 4870 (I might be wrong) I don't anticipate any new issues to show up (compared to the crossfire 4870 configuration) but at the same time I don't want to be Alienware's quality control :)
