    M17x-R2 - out with HD5870

    Of course after waiting over a month for my replacement, and hoping the 5870 would show up in the meantime, it would ship TODAY... I'm not sure what, if anything, I can do since it's a replacement. If it was something I'd ordered, I'd just slap the return label on it and reorder.

    I wonder if there's a way to do the same kind of thing on a replacement order. Probably not, since the only return label they give you for a replacement is the label for the original laptop being replaced.

    Well, maybe if they get it on the US site today, maybe I'll complain to the rep and ask if I can reorder.

    I just contacted my rep, my order's been in production for a couple of weeks. I placed the order on the 1st with an arrival date of may 5th.

    He didnt see the config available in his system but said he would update my order as soon as he see's it.

    I only hope it doesnt ship in the meantime....

    does anyone know how long its likely to take for Australia to receive the new cards? or how long it was before the r2 refresh reached aus after its release in US/UK?

    My theory is they are waiting for all the current US orders to go into boxing first or they don't have the supply to take on the flood of orders/order changes coming from the US. :D

    Was ready to order the Sager with single 5870, guess i got a good reason to go with Alienware again.

    Will wait a few months before ordering though, so others can struggle with the bugs & flaws laptops have in the start and give AW some time to iron them out.

    finally after so long of a wait, all the other manufacters having it now we can go for it. now very exicted to get me a r2 even though i have a g73. the rgbled and now 5870.

    Well, the R2 will be the first system to support CF 5870's.

    I know other OEM's have had single card solution for a couple of months now but there is no competition for the R2 now.

    I sent my customer service rep an email. We'll see if there's any chance I can move to the 5870s even though the replacement already shipped (today) with 4870s. Given that there's no additional cost, I don't think it's a crazy request, but we'll see. *fingers crossed*

    @joshmcx : I called my sales rep and told her about the new cards. She cancelled my ordered and reordered me one with the new cards. She didn't make any problems of it..

    Well, mine's a replacement, so that's a bit different. With all the trouble Dell has put me through on this laptop and the laptop it is replacing, hopefully they'll just handle it without any issues.

    What would happens when the R2 with the 4870 have a problem under warranty ?

    Is Dell politic to replace with lets say the new 5870 ? :D

    Not unless they have no more 4870s. They most likely will not send out upgraded cards just to do so.. Well unless you escalate and they do so but it wont be easy..

    I've done the same things you guys have, although mine is a replacement too! I just got mine this past Monday. I emailed my CS rep this morning and now i'm waiting to hear back!! I'll keep you updated

    I gave my word on an R2 I be piking it up in Hong Kong on Saturday, its ultra full loaded, and now this news arrived here today :eek:

    I still can't believe those cards are out... And even before the US AW site got them, did this ever happen before? (New tech introduced earlier in another country than the US?) And what about Canada?

    This is amazing news considering I was just about to give up and get the 4870s. I waited for the R2, and still wanted the 5870s, and here they are! I'm ordering as soon as I can.

    For zero-cost upgrades, like this one, that's normally what they do, as they stop stocking the older cards once the new ones are available.
