hey, if you order it and get the invoice, post the part number for the CF 5870. That way, I can use it and make sure I get the 5870, and not the 4870 because some sales rep is hard of hearing or has tunnel vision...

11:19:41 AM Welcome to Dell US Chat! I hope you are doing well and thank you for waiting. My name is and I will be your online Dell product advisor today. I can be reached at [email protected] or via phone at 1-800-379-3355 Ext-.

There are several instances where chats get disconnected (we don’t disconnect you in purpose), just in case this happens, what phone number can I reach you at?
    11:19:46 AM
11:20:26 AM Hi . thank you for the phone number.
11:20:31 AM how may i assist you?
11:21:05 AM I am looking at the m17x
11:21:17 AM with the 5870 video card
11:22:26 AM may i know what info do you need on that card?
11:22:52 AM Does it come with crossfire?
11:23:26 AM nope. the ATI 5870 in Crossfire is currently out of stock.
11:23:44 AM Can it be ordered in crossfire 5870?
11:24:36 AM as of the moment, you we will be unable to place an order on the M17x with crossfire.
11:25:07 AM When will the website show the 5870 crossfire option?
11:25:21 AM *we are unable to place an order on the M17x with crossfire.
11:25:41 AM i am sorry but we still do not have information when it will be back
11:26:31 AM How much better is the 5870 crossfire than the 4870 crossfire?
11:28:01 AM the 5870 is a newer version and it has better architecture so it has faster gpu and supports up to 3 monitors.
11:29:18 AM how can you connect 3 montirors?
11:30:26 AM oh sorry, for laptops, no but with desktop, the 5870 with crossfire supports up to 3 monitors.
11:31:31 AM the 5870 with crossfire is approximately up to 15% better than the 4870 with crossfire in performance
11:32:26 AM If I order a m17x with a single 5870 can it be upgraded at a future date, with another 5870?
11:33:56 AM no as the video card in laptops can be upgraded at point of sale only
11:35:37 AM can I add another 5870 to the m17x if I buy one that has a single 5870?
    11:36:11 AM no as well.
    11:36:59 AM why is that?
11:38:37 AM the design of the laptop is not like a desktop that has more room for expansions. components such as the video card can be Upgrades at point of sale only as it is integrated in the motherboard.
11:40:34 AM So the 5870crossfire is available, just not in stock?
11:41:17 AM correct. i think it's been 3 weeks now since it was been out of stock
    11:42:35 AM 3 weeks...wow
11:43:30 AM How can I be the first to get a m17x with 5870 crossfire?
11:44:22 AM you have the option to subscribe from this link to get the latest updates and alerts that we have from this link or you may contact us every now and then online here in chat.
11:44:42 AM Dell Desktop & Laptop Computers & Electronics for Home & Home Office

11:46:57 AM how much more is the 5870crossfire option than the 4870crossfire option
    11:48:08 AM let me check.
11:50:13 AM thank you for waiting.
11:51:03 AM the price odf the 5870 crossfire is $600
    11:51:08 AM *of
11:51:35 AM price of 4870crossfire option?
    11:51:53 AM $300
11:52:20 AM where are these prices listed?
11:53:23 AM you can see the $300 upgrade of the 4870 crossfire when you customize the m17x.
11:53:57 AM and the 5870 crossfire option?
11:54:24 AM it is not available online.it is the price we offer before it was available.
11:55:29 AM will there be anything else i can help you with?
11:55:49 AM yeah where can i order one?
11:56:19 AM order an m17x with the 5870 crossfire?
    11:56:23 AM yes
11:57:04 AM we have m17x online but you can't order it with 5870 crossfire as of the moment.
11:57:59 AM and we still do not have information when it will be available. also, you are only limited to the options provided online. here is the link of the m17x that we offer where you can customize it with up to 4870 crossfire only
11:58:25 AM i'd have to be a moron to customize it with 4870 crossfire
    11:58:32 AM old technology
11:59:11 AM i want the best right now, not the best last year
11:59:14 AM i understand if you really need the latest technology. however, in as much as i wanted to, there is no option to order it with the 5870 crossfire
11:59:51 AM ok thank oyu for your time... tell your bosses to hurry up
12:00:03 PM we're sick of waiting...
12:00:20 PM no problem. your feedback will be forwarded.

I'm equally skeptical. That's why I want a part number. I can cross-reference it, and request that particular part number when I place my order.

That would be a twist of fate, since the US is usually where the new tech is introduced, if its not introduced everywhere at the same time...

I would consider that nearly an impossibility, considering the vastly larger US market base, and the Euro's weak standing at the moment.

Dell headquarters are in Texas as well, so I don't see why new hardware would be released in a foreign country first.

You can sign into your Dell account and look up the order that way. It may just say that it's "in production". To find out specifically, there is a phone number you call. That will tell you if it's in the build stage, boxing stage...etc. I don't know what the phone number is for your country.

For some reason my excitement level isn't there. I was very excited for my first AW M15x and even the first M17x-R2 (until I got it and it flickered). After that it was pretty much the same old same old. Dual 5870s will be fun to bench for a few days and then we'll all be back to looking forward to the next fix..ah the life of a junkie...I mean enthusiast.
