M17x-R2 - out with HD5870

I just called and got the return of my M15x going...

 

hey, if you order it and get the invoice, post the part number for the CF 5870. That way, I can use it and make sure I get the 5870, and not the 4870 because some sales rep is hard of hearing or has tunnel vision...

 

I was quoted 600 dollars for the 5870 crossfire option...wow

Ask why they are offering it without it being on the website? I will not believe them until it's on the site.

 

i just chatted with a US sales rep and he said the dual 5870's are not available.

 

I'm equally skeptical. That's why I want a part number. I can cross-reference it, and request that particular part number when I place my order.

 

maybe they are only available for Europeans ?

 

I dont know why anyone keeps calling and chatting up reps.until its on the site, its not available.

 

Once again, two different reps and two different stories.

 

That would be a twist of fate, since the US is usually where the new tech is introduced, if its not introduced everywhere at the same time...

 

I would consider that nearly an impossibility, considering the vastly larger US market base, and the Euro's weak standing at the moment.

 

Dell headquarters are in Texas as well, so I don't see why new hardware would be released in a foreign country first.

Sorry all, i'm a big DB! When i received the quote it had the 4870 Crossfire listed. When i called, they said it's not available. False alarm

 

I agree with both of you. But its still interesting that the people who claimed to order CF 5870s over the phone are all in Europe...lol

You can sign into your Dell account and look up the order that way. It may just say that it's "in production". To find out specifically, there is a phone number you call. That will tell you if it's in the build stage, boxing stage...etc. I don't know what the phone number is for your country.

 

Crossfire is up on US site. Add $375.

as far as i know left and right gpus for crossfire have the same part number. so or you order them both or not. ask babyhemi to take some of those. i am trying for weeks now.

Welp, Alienware has proven again that they are the most powerful and the best out there Now I'm going to go fricken crazy waiting for my new laptop

 

TRUST me I know the feeling.. I've been waiting to order since the middle of December when my Gateway FX took a dive for the worse and the GPU melted.. LOL

 

For some reason my excitement level isn't there. I was very excited for my first AW M15x and even the first M17x-R2 (until I got it and it flickered). After that it was pretty much the same old same old. Dual 5870s will be fun to bench for a few days and then we'll all be back to looking forward to the next fix..ah the life of a junkie...I mean enthusiast.

 

Well for some of us it's the 1st "real" AW. I'm looking forward to it, especially given that many people here said its built much better than m11x.

 

Are you ordering an M17x to replace your M11x, or keeping both
