well 12.6k isn't so bad! 13.5k would be very nice but i'm happy.

 

Those temps are pretty normal for a vantage run even on the low side compared to GTX280M.

 

i wonder if newer drivers would be able to squeeze out another 1k or so

Optimal benching drivers (I think 10.4's bench better than 10.6), getting rid of auto starting services, setting mipmaps to performance and a fresh OS install which I'll be doing.

 

crysis benchmark better get at least 32FPS on 1920x1200 DX10 all on Very High. otherwise I'm going to pass up on the 5870s.

 

crysis is a poorly coded game though! shouldnt base it purely on 1 game m8

 

I always do a fresh install and in this case I have no choice since I have to install Win 7 on my Vertex LE.

 

I'm sorry but when i played around with the ati 3d settings the #s were actually a little lower Here's the 2nd one





this was with all settings to the right, and i had16x for both smoothvision options, anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering

 

Do you have the driver install order list? Also the drivers that need to be installed?

 

This is strange. There must be something you are not doing right. Let us know if you need help, we will do our best to guide you through the steps.

One question: are you using your PC during the test? Do you have any applications and/or anything else running at the same time?

 

I know crysis is poorly coded. It's just a comparison game tool. 285m SLI is already getting 30FPS. and yes I know crysis is Nvidia based.

 

I will look for it. I had it saved somewhere. I am not sure the actual order really matters for installing drivers.

Crysis does get better results with Nvidia cards but that's not the only game this way. A lot of coders still prefer Nvidia as a partner.

Heck still today a lot of games have the Nvidia logo before launching the game.

Nvidia is winning the mass marketing game but losing the performance battle.

Those are two options that make it look better and perform worse.

Anti-aliasing makes jagged lines look smoother, and anisotropic filtering makes thing look clearer at greater distances.

 

I'm about to do a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Mushkin Calisto drive! I'll pretty much be up all night tweaking what I can to get some higher numbers. Any suggestions appreciated! Just let me know what your interested in.

Oh man I just noticed something that 12.6k run was with mipmap on performance and not high performance... bet that might make the 400pt difference..

 

No you won't be able to see the results.

Can you run 3D Mark 2006? You should be able to run that one as long as you want.

That should be a joke....I did 36 fps in my R1 with the 4870s

 

@scook9 36FPS stock? my r2 with 4870s and i7 920 overclocked only got 31FPS

my r1 with qx9300 at 3.2 and gpu at 650 1025 and I only got 31FPS. is there something I'm missing? my r2 at 3.7 and gpu 650 1025 only gets 32 FPS. my brothers i7 920 and 5870 is only getting 35FPS(stock). you gotta tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can brag to my brother when I beat his crysis benchmark with my M17x.

 

you got to have the right drivers, the right game version, the right tweaks, the right cooling

I do not remember what version of the game that was, I think was 1.20. You can see I used 9.12 drivers - have not played with 10.3 or others

I have a desktop with an i7 930 and a 5870, some day I will have time to bench that as well

 

Big fail on those Vantage scores. I bet it's being down-clocked since his scores are varying by over 1K. I'm sure Joker will find out for us tomorrow.

 

Okay, guys better news...my ss isnt working. But now i got CPU score 10518 Graphics score: 12543 compared to 10900+ graphics earlier

Ok the Mushkin Calisto SSD is going in the m17x now so stay tuned I'll have more benches after I return. Expect much better results after the tweaks. Quick ? what is 8.692.2.0 driver version? Is that like 9.22 or something? Cause that's what came with it stock.

 

that's the problem...it is suppose to be good without tweaking...

make sure both of your cards are in fact scaling....

 

Tweaking is always necessary on a PC. The manufacturers just ship a finished product that will be sure to not break... Or at least they try to...
