Yes I am sure they are better than the 4870's. Let's wait until Joker gets his hands on them and see the results he will get.

Joker we are counting on you... I am expecting close to 14K with minimal tweaks to stock.

lets see. i have to confess that i am little anxious for 5870s since i saw their price on Dell website being same as 4870s. Cheaper production cost? maybe but new gpus were always sold more expensive. Hope that its just a competitive price and not something else.

one other concern of mine is the performance on dx11 and 1920x1200

really? i have beaten a bunch of people with the regular settings.
and you always need a stock starting place. which is what completely stock is. without tweaking. then go up from there.

R2 must have a more complicated drivers installation order than R1 guessing from the drivers. Basics are like MANDRAKE said. I was an expert on drivers installation (especially after so many formats trying to test latency) on r1. Lets see now with the R2 replacement

i think dell should have released a guide for it before months

We're talking about M17x lol, should be on topic...and I try to minimize reboots, but some drivers don't give a choice...

driver installtion order? It's not rocket science, and it doesn't even really matter. 10 years ago in windows 98/XP RC1 when you'd BSOD if you installed your AGP driver before the chipset driver it mattered, today integrated drivers are up to date or sophisticated enough to do the job just fine, regardless of which order you update them.

It's best to just let win7 install the chipset drivers since it's intel based.

I've never bothered about the installation order of drivers on any of my systems...While my benches may not be uber high, I've not seen any discernable performance differences based on driver order installation in real world applications or in stability.

just to let you know wrong installation order (especially for chipset-wireless-gpu driver) on the R1 could cause from latency to conflict between wireless and gpu driver that could lead to one gpu not being recognized.

Also if you see on R1 thread some resources still show conflict for the nvidia chipset driver.

All those are for R1. i cant comment on R2 as i am still waiting for it.

Alienware/Dell has posted driver installation order on their website in the past but with these systems I haven't seen a difference. With the Sony FW I have if things aren't installed in the right order it does have loads of issues.

i have seen on mine R1 as described above. it could be just that the the drivers sucked and the nvidia chipset one still does and it will never be fixed. same for osd app.

Well I do have an R1, and recently did a clean install (not reimage or restore), I did not install in the "required order", as I prefer install the video drivers first, then everything else.

It runs fine, still has the "new install" feel to it. Just checked and both GPUs are recognized, wireless working.

Cool! Mine also has an EDD of June 2, going to my old man's house in Vegas. Unfortunately I won't be in Vegas myself until the 12th. And then I have to fly off to China. But at least then I'll have my new R2...

thanks guys maybe im being over cautious I am used to PC's etc am just a bit paranoid about breaking my AW since I read that M15 users borked thier laptops by installing an old CC..lol..

The only thing im worried about is installing the AW apps other than that im fine hence asking what way was best.

I have installed windows 7, installed the drivers, dl'd windows updates, and manage to grab vantage before I had to leave the house. As soon as I get back ill run windows update again, grab the 10.4 drivers and install vantage and then we can go from there.

And the issue where only the dell driver can be installed (since the a05 bios) it's gone or you have always to keep the 8.68 driver ?
