    Thanks.

Yeh that is very true. You make a good point there about having available features actually working as advertised.
Man I tell you one thing I can't stand and that is BSODs.
I too have been experiencing the odd BSOD every few days. There was one stage where I would BSOD like 5 times a day. Not exactly sure if it was GPU driver related. Had to do a massive cleanup to try and fix the issue otherwise a full format and OS install would have been on the cards.

I must say though that after the 10.11 drivers; AMD drivers in terms of performance has been pretty good. We are starting to see some nice improvements.
I can't wait to test out and play some Crysis 2 on our machines.

Until the M18x surfaces or comes out I don't think I will be purchasing anything new atm. I must say though that I like the look of the M17x R3. For what it is and serves as, it is a pretty top notch machine. However if you guys saw the price of it down under

Here's to fixing sleep issues once and for all and improving gaming performance with newer AMD drivers and CAP profiles. :D

    CAP profiles update tracker list;
    http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/catalyst_application_profiles_tracking_list.pdf

I wonder if Dell is ever going to release another new updated driver for our R2 AMD GPUs.........?

    Cheers. :)

Hahaha - think we have all had a laugh at R3 prices....UK vs US vs AUS....ridiculous....just glad im not in the market for one ohteriwse i would be gutted! ;)

Im pretty much a pro at reinstalls now lol....was a time where it phased me but now, its done in a few with all updates.

Hey, do you have metro? - have you ran the in game bench? - kinda interested to see what other people get. I like Metro as it serves as a great stress test game for our system....probably better than crysis....although, I am looking forward to trying out crysis 2 also!

I think the 6970 is now available on the UK website...that will make the R3 alot better....havent checked it out yet but, even so, im still gald I have the beast.....maybe 6mths I will get an xm......i just have to sell some crap via ebay 1st lol

Oh and i am not holding my breath on another Dell driver revision for 5870......good job we can use AMD even with sleep problems...at least I can work around them.

    Yeh I've got metro 2033.
I never noticed that it had an in game benchmark last time. Where and how do I run it?

I'll give it a run for you and post up the results while I'm on 11.1 drivers.

I haven't really done any benching actually for a while now. Perhaps I should give them a go and see how the new drivers have impacted on my scores.

    Cheers. :)

    Chief,

From a previous post of mine.....its located here:

I would be interested to hear more about your Metro testing....were those results from using the Metro2033 benchmarking tool located within the steam folder? ( located at: programs x86/steam/steamapps/common/metro2033/metro2033benchmark)

I just created a shortcut to the desktop from the file location so i could run it whenever but you can run it from its folder location...just double click the bench icon.

If you give it a run, let me know how you get on with it ! - be prepared for some low figures lol!

I'm not entirely sure what the problem was, but I suffered a massive performance drop trying out these drivers. My 3Dmark06 Score is normally 20-21k on dell drivers, with these it dipped down to 14-15k. I did a full clean in safe mode as well.

Has anyone got any ideas? If not I'll stick with the dell drivers, if it ain't broken I wont fix it :p

I will try some benchmark runs later on perhaps. See how I go.

How's gaming performance when running on 11.1? I have noticed that some driver versions are shocking for benchmarking but run really well for games and vice versa.

Perhaps try out and see how they perform for any specific games that you play. If they are also performing really badly for them then yeah stick with what you know is the best performer so far. If you have a game that I also have I can help you test it out as well just to compare performance and fps averages to see if something is a mist.

    Cheers. :)

    Thanks for that Stevie.

I just checked however I don't have the benchmark in there. Mine wasn't a steam version. So I guess I am not up to date.

Perhaps we can compare scores on other benchmarks again like 3d mark 06, Vantage and 3d Mark 11.
Although I have been having a bit of trouble running 3d mark 11. It always seems to BSOD during the test. I might see how I go this time around with 11.1 installed.

Whats your best scores in 3d Mark 11?

    Cheers. :)

Thanks Alex....I might have tested them out but wont even bother now!.....If I want my system to sleep without probs, Im just using the start menu atm....best way without issues so far (for me anyway). I hooked up my TactX kit the other day and noticed that when using the Alienhead to sleep, whilst it was doing the job, the external keyboard and mouse would disconnect themselves....using start/sleep it goes to sleep right away.

Ah, yeah...mine was purchased but loaded onto steam and I believe it is a steam update within Metro.
Regarding mark'11....all at stock, my best run was 4001, most of the time tho its around 3980.......(low in comparison to Joker's OC'd 5500+ score lol).....
will do a few runs later with these new drivers on my clean install...see what i get then....whats your best so far?

Also, I believe that Futuremark have done a revision on mark'11 that is supposed to "fix" certain anomolies....have you got the latest version installed?

Well I ran the benchmark and my average fps was 15!!

I play the game on high 1920 x 1200 AAA DX 11 with tesselation but DOF off.

When actually playing the game on these settings it works fine the benchmark however runs very poorly I haven't got that far in the game yet so I can't say if the good framerates will keep up

That sounds much better than 15fps!....I was getting 18fps as an av max with it enabled...will try a few runs without it enabled.

EDIT: Just re-ran with same settings and get av 41fps.....on very high I get av 28fps.....not bad for a hugely intensive game I guess!......I wonder if anyone can max this out on their R2 with all settings at their highest - would be interesting to see. (and obviously still maintain a decent frame rate!)

I'm running them, was on 10.12 (which i didnt have any issues with, so im not sure why i upgraded).

but they seem to be running fine, no complaints yet. no sleep/wake issues i can find either (of course, 10.12 didnt have any either)

edit: a curious observation is that under information, is says the catalyst version is 10.12, thought it is clearly not, since the entire layout and UI is changed and updated, so it's probably just a glitch/error.

For those of you who are interested, amd CAP 11.1 is out. this is the official release (not available on amd's site by the way, and no, this is not from rage3d. the download link is straight from amd)

    here you go:
    http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/catalyst_application_profiles/amd_catalyst_11.1_cap1.exe

    fixes enchancements:
-Need for Speed: Shift 2: Improves CrossFire performance
-F1 2010: Fixes flickering seen on some tracks when running in CrossFire mode

    enjoy.

Nice find Alex. I presume that these are the same CAP's regardless of where you get them? - only I found that they have been pulled from Rage3d Rage3D Exclusive - Catalyst Application Profile 11.1 - Rage3D Discussion Area due to many issues. I know you say that your link is direct from AMD but will there be any difference mate?

Think I may just hang fire on them atm to be safe ;)

im using them now. dont see any problems - so far. yeah, as mentioned before, they are from amd (as a matter of fact, i got it from amd, not from amd's public site of course). i did not compare the crc32 with rage3d's release because i normally download my CAP before rage3d release them and i download straight from amd, but i presume that if it's on amd's servers, it's just a matter of time before they are released. and if it's really causing any issues, just uninstall them like what you do with old CAP when newer ones are released.

Edit: Looks like amd's download servers are down at the moment. cant download anything from them

EDIT: Just tried again a few hours after and now it takes me to AMD but "unauthorised download" page....even tho the link works now, they arent avaiable to grab, guess I will reinstall 10.12CAP2.....

CAP 11.1 improves crossfirex performance on Need for Speed: Shift 2? Is there a Need for Speed Shift 2? the only one I know of is Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed, which isn't out till 29th of March. this must be a typo?

    Just a "FYI" post....

Just loaded CAP 11.1 (courtesy of Alex - thanks) and ran the in-game benchtool for Metro. Quite pleased with the results.

Managed to run at av 28fps with the following settings:

    DX11
    Very High
    Tesselation Enabled (by default)
    DOF Disabled
    AAA
    AF x4
    PhysX Disabled.

Bench ran well, quite smooth infact.... bench results state av 28fps, min 6fps (eeeek!) and max of 95fps (now thats more like it lol)

All in all, pretty good I think for 11.1 drivers and CAP 11.1 profiles....seems that Metro is playable at very high....especially for those of you with an xm under the hood/using OC....my results were at stock FYI.

Hahaha...yeah...kind of....I would love one. Its a toss up between that and x2 SSD's.....decisions decisions

Personally, what i have played of it, I love it. Very dark and atmospheric.....for the money, I would say get it. Its probably like Marmite though....you love it or hate it.
For testing purposes - one of the main reasons it was my FIRST game to buy - I think its up there with Crysis. If your system can handle it, then it can handle more or less anything. Thats why I bought it really, to see what performance I got on the M17x out of it....(when i was buying my system, it was THE game to run....looked on notebookcheck to see how other systems ran it...not many can handle it on max.....Have heard that the in-game bench tool is more "severe" on fps than gameplay itself, so I would be expecting some better figures, the more I get into it.

All in all, I would say go and get it..its fun killin creepy aliens from the Soviet Republic lol.

I just bought Dead space 2 and after playing that for about an hour I went back and started playing Metro 2033.

Metro really does have great atmosphere but it can be pretty frustrating at points so If you don't want to restart over and over again play it on easy. The gameplay is also a bit more clunky than call of duty etc, I own all of the COD games since COD 4 and can't stand the single player in any of them or Bad Company 2. I finished modern warfare 2 but hated the whole thing other than nuked washington.

Like steviejones said Metro really is the benchmark for good pc graphics these days. I am tempted to get a full hd led tv just to play this game.

Oh and while were discussing car games Hot pursuit 2 isnt that good no car customisation or car statistics whats with that? Also the steering wheel support in that game is S#%t good graphics average gameplay.

IMO the best racing/drift game is Race Driver Grid I haven't played anything that felt as realistic in drifting before or since.

Again, for those who are interested, CAP 11.1 is back on amd's servers. CRC32 checks out fine with the link i provided yesterday, so they are essentially the same files. here is the link, and hope no one will report it again this time otherwise i wont be able to share it with you guys in future releases.

Edit: Looks like this link is down again. i wont be posting AMD CAP direct links anymore from now on. obviously someone is not happy with this.

If you are having trouble with sleep using these AMD drivers, I suggest you have a look at this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-issues-when-using-reference-amd-drivers.html

It would be greatly appreciated if you (or anyone else) experiencing sleep issues would use the links on page 2 to report your issues to the relevant people. The more people that are aware and that actually DO something about this issue, the more chance there is of a cure for it without any kind of temporary workaround.

Its only because CAP 11.1 was very briefly available for download. Your link is to the 10.12 CAP2 profiles. Obviously, given time, AMD will release another CAP but I think those who saw the link for 11.1 CAP's thought they were readily available and now cant get them.

Rage3d had 11.1 CAP's for a short while but pulled them as several users reported "side effects" with them.

Alex has posted a few links to 11.1 cap but they have been pulled too.....the only way that I can see to get them atm is via an upload or personal email between someone who has them. I do, but I would need to ask Alex for his permission to share to whomever wants them.

Even if i uploaded a file, that might get pulled too.....

Batboy is obviously too busy moderating this forum to go into details of CAP. it's only us here who have all the free time to hunt for newer CAP. Also, Batboy, if you are reading this, we need your help with the sleep issue thread created by Stevie. he has posted a bunch of tech support links for both amd and dell and it will be helpful if you could sticky it. we need to create awareness among M17xR2 owners and have the issue brought to amd/dell's attention.

go for it Stevie. there's no need for my consent.

Knock yourself out... I'm still catching up from taking the weekend off and staying away from the forum... signatures size limits, language filter bypasses, OT posts, blah blah blah blah... *sigh*

Have fun with the Reference Drivers :)

Regarding the sleep thread, I'll figure out a way to sticky it... or reference it somehow in one of the other threads. NBR likes for us to limit stickies to 3 and I tend to push it with 4 (in this subforum its currently 5 - not good)... I'll see what I can do.

Yep...I second what Alex has said...if there is anything you can do to raise awareness of this issue, that would be great and very much appreicated. Both Myself and Alex are quite keen to see some kind of resolution to this matter (along with others) so any input you can provide would be brilliant! :)

Just played 3 hours of Mass Effect with the new drivers, no problems detected. However, the sleep issue still persist - although it doesnt bother me, I never use the fn keys anyway....
