You can't even buy the cryo lx from their website. The "buy now" link takes you to their store and it's nowhere in sight.

My roommate and I placed an order from Amazon for the Cryo LX even though it was out of stock. We weren't really in a rush to receive them. One ended up coming in a week later, and the other another week after that. Just seems like they receive small shipment batches so if you're in no hurry you can try that.

About how long ago did you guys place these orders? I just placed one right now from Amazon, since my M17x is still in production. Hopefully I'll have the same luck as you and your roommate.

We placed the order on May 18th. Got the first one on the 26th of May, and the second one came in last Thursday - June 3rd. Hope that helps. I know Amazon.com fulfills the orders but they might be using other vendors inventory. Hopefully you get yours soon!

I am geetin 45 idle on both 280M SLI and 65 max while gaming.
On the processors, its 44 idle and 60 on load.

If I get a Cryo, how much difference will it make? If its slim to none, then probably I will not want it.

5c at most difference. Arguably that is all due to just raising the bottom of the laptop up though. I find that I like the cryo mostly for forcing fresh air onto the ram modules when I have the bottom of the laptop removed and the stupid metal cover removed so the ram is exposed

It is not meant to be a miracle worker.

Honestly, i purchased a cryo lx cooler, saw moderate changes in temperatues maybe 5-10 degrees celcius cooler. I added some crazy powerful fans that push massive cfm. In the end all that didn't make it run that much cooler maybe an additional 2 degrees cooler over just having it raised up by the cooler

If you guys are looking for something more modest than the Cryo, I suggest the Notepal U3. It has 3 adjustable fans and fits the m17x perfectly.

Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Notebook Cooler Model NotePal U3 R9-NBC-8PCK-GP\

The only warning I would have is that the metal base can be bent out of shape. My first one arrived bent due to improper shipping and handling so I receive another one that wasn't bent.

Anywhere from 5-15C lower than without. Hope that helps. And unfortunately, I am not sure where you can get one in the UK. Your best bet may be to look on Ebay and look for an international shipper.

i have a custom cooler which is basically fans blowing air directly into laptop heat sinks fans raises idle temps by 3-5c but stays under 70c while i play crysis warhead with 850/1100 clocks on 5870's... bad in long term?

Well whatever you guys do :), don't get the EVO laptop cooler with the "hole" in the center ! Mine kinda worked for about a week or so I thought... After 2 weeks the airflow seemed unexistant almost. Also my laptop feels cooler while lying flat on my desk. Anyways good thing I monitored that situation xD I'm getting a refund! and ordered the coolermaster u3

I had one of these for my gateway FX series laptop...it worked fine. But with the r2/r3's you might as well save the $25 and use a textbook to boost up the back.

I use the targus too. Is so nice because its soft, is not of metal or cold plastic, and if u put in your legs the alien, its perfect.

THe alien dont needs cooling, but for put it in soft areas and dont close the air entrances, this targus is perfect and not expensive

I tried the cryo and it didnt cool my laptop at all. Fans were full blast and directly under the fan grills. I would recommend the sf-19. Although i have not tried it, I know people that have and say that it lowers their temps a few degrees.

I'm using the SF-19 and it has its issues. I had to modify it quite a bit for it to be effective. The problems I had with it were:

    1. Although the stock fans pushed a lot of air, they were unbearably loud!
    2. The mesh is much too fine and blocks a good portion of the airflow from the fans.
    3. Feels cheap with shoddy build quality. I wouldn't have as much of an issue with this if it wasn't as expensive as it is.

    The mods I made were:

    1. Replaced stock fans with a pair of Noctua NF-P14 FLX 140mm fans. MUCH quieter!
    2. Added 2 Cooler Master MegaFlow 200 fans that blow air at the back of the vents. I'm still experimenting with this; trying to see if it makes a difference with the fans blowing air at the vents vs. the fans taking the air away from the vents.
    3. Drilled larger holes in the mesh. Considering removing the mesh all together.

I have the CoolerMaster U3 here and it works ok, but it's not a huge improvement over propping the back up with a book it basically does the same thing. It is however cheap, and there's no real chance that anything will knock it off of it's stand, unlike a book. But even that is not very likely!

    http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1321229760&sr=1-1

For using the laptop on the couch, I have a Belkin Cooling Lounge, which works decent, it mostly serves the purpose of not burning your legs but it does have a fan to provide cool air to the bottom of the laptop. It stays cooler than just sitting the laptop flat on a desk.

This isn't what I wanted to hear. I purchased the SF-19 after reading some review that said it was great with the M17x and it was almost like it was made with the M17x in mind.

Are you saying there is room for two 200mm fans in the thing?

Not sure of the other versions of the M17x but for the R3 the SF-19 isn't really that ideal (wished I knew that before I forked over the money). The fans don't really align with the vents on the R3 although it does cool the entire underside of the laptop which is ok too I guess. For more concentrated cooling on the vents, the Cooler Master U3 is probably a better choice.

No, there's barely room for one 200mm fan let alone two! That actually another gripe I have with the SF-19. They say you can move the fans around as you like them but really you can only move them less than an inch in any direction.
I have two 140mm fans inside and two 200mm fans outside behind my laptop. There are four 3-pin connectors for fans in the SF-19. I fed the wires for the 200mm fans into the unit but the fans themselves are not inside.

My first choice was a CM Strike Force19, but it's too expensive and fans needs an AC adapter :(
So I have ordered a CM Notepal U3.
You can put the fans where you need, it plugs to an USB port and you can unplug them quickly.

PS: There is a new version of the CM SF19: one with USB 3.0 hub integrated.... but it's 20 $ more expensive.

I have the USB 3.0 SF-19 and I don't really recommend it. It requires modification to be effective.
You did good getting the U3. I'd recommend it over the SF-19 actually since you're able to focus the airflow directly into the vent rather than blasting the entire underside of the computer.

Hey aznpos531 dyu think these fans would work better than the ones in the sf-19 currently? The noise factor is not an issue to me (I use a headset to game) Yate Loon 140mm Case Fan High Speed - D14SH-12

Whoa! Those sure move one hell of a lot of air! The stock ones move quite a bit of air already...I would estimate somewhere in the 80~90 CFM range on highest setting. Personally I feel like at some point, extra CFM doesn't make much of a difference (as far as laptop coolers are concerned...case fans are a different story). As such, the only reason to replace the fans is the noise problem.

The main thing about the SF-19 is that I find the mesh too fine and it actually restricts the airflow. The 50 CFM boost will somewhat remedy that problem however I think removing the mesh or replacing it with something like modder's mesh would be more effective.

Ehhh I guess. Maybe ill try it out though. I had a bad experience with the cryo LX (provided no drop in temps). I have a sf-19 on the way right now so ill see how it would without a mod and fix it up with those fans if i find it necessary.

Really? The Cryo LX gets good reviews all around. I'm kind of surprised. Haven't tried it out personally though.
TBH, the SF-19 stock didn't really drop my temps much; only a few degrees C at best. Modded (mainly adding two 200mm fans to the exterior to remove hot air from the rear of the laptop) plus HWinFO for fan control dropped my temps by 10~15 degrees C (idle mid 50's to low 40's; load low 80's to low 70's). I still haven't had time to mod the mesh though. However I did try running the computer with the fans outside of the cooler under the computer and i did get cooler temps still. I imagine it would be better after a mesh mod.
