I've got another issue.. how can i turn on the numlock automatically? since 1994 every bios that i remember had that option.. this one does not (or i can't find it)

Well it looks like nVidia's mobile fermi 480 GTX exists and was demoed behind closed doors at CeBit. Semiaccurate thinks they wont' get it out by this year but if there's already working silicon, I think there's a good chance we'll see this during the summer. Personally I can't wait, the fermi's tesselation performance destroys the ATi parts. As long as they can get the heat and power consumption under control it should be a nice part.

Awesome! I wonder if Dell really is holding out for a mobile Nvidia part...

Does this mean if Dell finally offers the 5870, I'll have to keep waiting for a GTX 480? :D

Probably ;) I know I'll have a tough time deciding because I'd much rather have mobile fermi.

    Are you 100% sure your vents weren't blocked/clogged ?
The cooling should be perfect. And besides, L4D2 is not too demanding to begin with, so there's another reason for the shut down.
Just got my R2 so can't say for sure but if R1 has a similar cooling (and it should) than I don't see any problems.

It will be here exactly when it's needed. As soon as your current GPUs stop handling most of the current games at max settings, the new cards will hit the market ;) There's no need for them to appear sooner IMHO.

I ve read somewhere that it will consume about 100wats
Thats twice as much the power consumption of a mobile 5870 so unless they manage that forget about mobile fermi sli.

    Very interesting link, m8!
I think (just a guess) the system that had a mobile 480GTX behind closed doors was a Clevo D900F successor with Fermi+i7-980X. No wonder they got a poor battery life. Since it was announced that Clevo presented a mysterious notebook behind closed doors at the last CeBit it looks very possible (who else would go beyond extreme). Now if the notebook gets approved @ Taipei in June, we might see a new beast this summer.

Not at all, to me it looks even easier to design a single huge heatsink +1 or 2 powerful fans for it than 2 separate HS and fans for 2 GPUs. Clevo is well known for their HS.
And even if they choose to go liquid, there are ways to do so!

I am not sure you actually read the article but it says the mobile gtx480 is broken and will most likely not show for a long time.

Read the article and the source of that article. It's crazy what is said in there. Nvidia is in big trouble on the mobile market. They won't have anything for another year or so.

I read the article just fine. I don't put much weight in semiaccurate's doom and gloom predictions. Just the fact that there is a working mobile fermi part in a vendor's prototype suggests nVidia will have retail silicon in the near future.

The next time nVidia has an investor conference call, we'll know what's going on since they are required to disclose product development delays to stockholders.

It might be the case that by the time we see mobile fermi in an Alienware laptop that it wont be the m17x as we know it tday. The point is if you buy it say after half a year or more with a mobile fermi it will still last for at most 2 years. So there is no gain why not buy now and enjoy it for 2 years from tday its pretty much the same anw you always need to upgrade every 2 years waiting will not change that. Btw anybody seem the new ONLIVE program. The idea is brillinat and it seems like a bargain but I dont think it will work unfortunetly.

Has anyone had a problem with their mouse cursor all of a sudden getting bigger for no reason? It has happened to me twice so far this week and I can't resize it without rebooting my laptop. I can't be sure, but I think it happened when I had my desktop as a slide show and when it changed the image the cursor size changed. I will have to keep experimenting to see if I can duplicate the problem and figure out when it happens for sure.

the dpi and resolution are the same between the 2 screens

Are you sure Dell don't increase the default text and icon sizes (in Window Colour and Appearance - Advanced appearance settings)?

I know ASUS did on the G73 - all fonts were set at 10pt instead of 9pt plus a scaled up DPI. Horrible.

Fractal, go to Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Display and make sure it's set to Smaller - 100%. The default is 125% and it makes things look a bit too large.

When I got mine I had to change some setting as the fonts/icons were pretty big. I forget what I did (as I've since returned it) but I think it was under personalize window in W7 (although W7 has a habit of being unintuitive for where such features as placed so it may have been in taskbar properties for all I know).

EDIT: And now I see Joker's post. So pretty much what he said.

i am currently looking for a way to monitor the temps, and i can't seem to find a normal tool to do it.
Everest BSODes on me, but i know it's a known issue. There's GPUZ but i need to run 2 instances to monitor both cards, plus they can't put it in the tray or as a gadget like i want it. HWmonitor does only cpu..
Do you guys know of any tool that can monitor both gpuz and cpu and preferably also put it in the taskbar/desktop widget ?

EDIT : update on everest situation - http://www.lavalys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4698
i am trying the beta right now and i will report back.
