For what like? bragging rights.Your current 720 will play any game do any multitasking .I just don't get the way of thinking i need a hot/power hungry cpu for some irrelevant benchmark score. If i felt my cpu could not perform the tasks i require then maybe but not for some score.

I'm assuming you're still using 4870s by your sig, which have been able to install catalyst with no problem from day 1.

Aristotelh, I have the impression that for the R2, the only 5870s that are supported, are the proprietary ones from Dell no matter what vbios you flash them with. I am not 100% sure and I always leave a margin for error (I don't want to disappoint you either) because you never know... it may work.

Pretty sure Mandrake tried a Clevo 5870 in his R2 and it did not work - only the dell 5870s worked in the R2

The 10.1 version is utilizing the GPU to accelerate graphics, prior versions where CPU bound, so yes if you have the 10.1 version of flash that's probably the reason and I wouldn't worry about it.

keep it, there are serious security issues with previous versions of flash and all three OS are vulnerable (Mac,Linux,Win)

maybe you guys can help me. So i have an i7 r2 with duel 4870's. I am trying to play napoleon total war but im having all kinds of issues. At first it seemed that I only could not load set piece battles such as waterloo etc. When I say the game could not load I mean that the load screen got half way complete and just stopped. The game did not crash and the system did not freeze up. I also found that when i wanted to fight a battle out of campaign mode the game would not launch. I figured that perhaps a bad install was responsible so I reinstalled the game...no dice. I was then advised on a total war forum to verify the games integriy via steam. I did this but now its giving me an error code 54 (i have googled this and can find no answers.) so basically i dont know what to do. Has PC gaming really become such a headache that i have to hunt down which driver is out of date on a month and half old computer ? I hope not. I have updated the bios to A05. Any suggestions ?

i am not sure if he tried flashing the dell vbios though. otherwise as a hardware i dont think there are many kind of 5870s (except those with or without CF connector)

the 06 score is kind of odd if you ask me.

ya its great that your 4870's significantly outperform the 5870's :p

Your processor doesn't make that much of a difference over the 720QM, so its all in your drivers i suppose.

    Hi!
fella's someone who using r2 long time ago with 5870 CF can say something good?
the most important is are we still experiencing pops and backgroung noise from IDT crap and still have some crap intgrated vga???the dvd still stuck in the drive so i have to dismantle the laptop and the drive to retrive it??? otherwise win will not start because try read the something from the disk
my replacement just been approved yesterday is going to be
    i5 520M 4GB Ram
    CF 5870
    LED LCD
that's all the important but 6 years ago i always using Intel + nvidia combo and slightly have no clue what i can expect from ati graphics cards today and i going to miss the phisx in my games since my r1 was Intel nv combo before my m1730 was the same and now after a "few" (replacing and trying to repair the impossible) mission they ask me to send the laptop to A-Novo ltd UK my laptop came back broken and with a big ugly scratch on it top of that without anyone repaired the light fx and the shuttering 1st won't power up at all so replacement approval was inevitable i just would like to know shall i get a refund instead or accept the replacement again....

please dont give me benchmark scores they just for the marketing and they always different related what os and drivers you use
i use win server 2008 r2 sp1 basically with latest drivers even if is beta
    thanks

Ok thx for the clarification, really appreciate it. But I wish I had the same setup as you haha since you have the i7 920, I only have the 820.

I think I've done everything I needed to do and tested everything on my new M17x. So now it's time to get my game on and enjoy it. I do have another question is there a way to disable the battery from being charged? I'll keep it plug in with the AC most likely 90% of the time.

PCMarks will get a lot from a CPU OC and a SSD

You can do unlimited runs off the 06 trial and one run only off of the vantage trial

i was told DELL will come to replace my screen yesterday, and they did not. Again, was told they will come this afternoon, and i did not see anyone or receive any call.
Therefore, i ask for a full replacement, after 1 hours negotiation, it is approved.
Hope new one will not have many problems. My current one have three issues, CPU FAN SPEED ERROR, DISPLAY DRIVER STOP RESPONDING (EVERYDAY, FIRST COUPLE OF BOOTS) AND DEAD PIXEL ON THE SCREEN.

How long will customer service people contact me. I was told customer service people will contact me about the new specification by email, but no idea when.

expect it to take them up to a week to respond to you. However because your system is new. They will probably just replace it for the same system specs. So it won't take long.
