alright well I got 10.6 installed. Split/Second performs a lil better but still chugs when I get near other cars. Hmmm, my 260s played this fine maxed out.

is this a game with PhysX and you still have it enabled? Enabling PhysX on ATI cards will bring performance to a crawl as it is not GPU accelerated like it is with Nvidia

84 was my max temp after about 45 minutes of play and this was with my card at 750/1050 no cooler or cooling aids etc...

So the game game certainly brings up the temp levels beyond most games but its very shader intensive so im not surprised....

Hmm I wonder why mine heated up so badly then? Could be a bad paste job from the factory. Guess I'll have to crack it open and take a look later on.

Yeah i would certainly be looking at the paste at this point with those temps... I was running 4xAA as well just to stress it as much as possible....

For me to get the best temps on my GPU i had to stretch out the pads ultimately giving better contact between the GPU and Heatsink ... I have some 0.5mm pads coming which another user tested and his furmark temps dropped 7 degrees ... from 88 to 81...

Trying to search google, but not finding anything. Is there a program to control the fan speed on my graphics cards? Think one of my 4870's starts making a pretty not good clicking noise when its fan starts spinning pretty good. Bought Lead and Gold on the steam sale yesterday, which doesn't seem to like Xfire, so I disabled it and after a few minutes it started sounding bad. Not cool.

That's too bad. I'm also having a problem where it likes to freeze if I unplug it. It takes a couple minutes, but after I plug it back in it will freeze and I'll have to restart. May just give them a call tomorrow about that GPU fan though.

Sorry for the continuation of OT, but... It is possible to inject code into a running process at runtime without modifying any of the binaries. Once you've got a handle to an open process, you can allocate and write memory and create threads, all as part of that process. (The Windows API calls you need are OpenProcess, VirtualAllocEx, WriteProcessMemory and CreateRemoteThread.)

Once you've got your own code running as part of the game's process, you can do just about anything you want. The rest is easy, and very hard to detect.

    Just a quick question,

does using the AMD catalyst 10.5 disable the hybrid gfx mode in stealth mode?

I read in another thread that you must use Dell's 4870 drivers for the hybrid gfx to work in stealth mode..

Can anyone confirm..? I don't want to remove my ATI 10.5 if the stealth mode's 9400m gfx works even with the ATI 10.5, not Dell's...

ran into some funny issue after i installed the 10.6.. when i use amd gpu tool(tried reinstalling) to oc, the 2nd card doesnt seem to be able to be oced. even if i tick the use same clocks for both cards, it keeps popping up saying failed to set clocks, check config. the first card ocs successfully.

i tried reflashing vbios but same still get the same issue. anyone have it too? or have i screwed my cards up?

Uninstall 10.6, install 10.3 and try again.
10.3 are the most stable drivers for 4870s so far.

haven't come here for a long time, could anyone tell me if the ATI 10.6 works fine with 5870CF, is it stable and improved something or better stay with stock driver. if 10.6 is better, how to install it.

do not install 10.6, the only driver that works with your cards is the one from Dell's website (which is a slightly modified 10.5). any other driver will cause BSODs

Can someone confirm a very strong GPU coil noise when playing Windows 7 built in chess (when the pieces are moving the noise is very very audiable for me) ?

"game editor" able to do it but got limitations,
the best program on the net to do that is "Cheat Engine" you able to edit almost anything except drivers and inject asm code to the runing process.LOL

yep, more or less the same sound. WEI makes it oscillate and change pitch, when playing chess it's more or less the same pitch and only appears when the actual pieces move (which makes sense)

it's a GPU coil noise, which is normal in R2s but i've noticed it gets stronger...

mfractal the more the coils vibrate the more the noise will become louder with time. One way to make the noise stop is to prevent them from vibrating using epoxy (I have seen nail polish as an alternative... I don't know how effective it is though after a while...)

yeah, they usually vibrate in frequencies that the human ear can't hear, but under load this frequency changes so does the sound they produce

Hey guys, I just got an Alienware m17x R2 edition laptop. I am pretty happy with the laptop, but I have some questions.

When I play YouTube videos, the video flickers, especially when there is a lot of movement and action. I was starting to think that maybe it was the video card, but when I disabled hardware acceleration, I was able to play them without any flickering. What I want to know is if there is another way to eliminate the flickering without having to disable hardware acceleration, since it does seem to reduce the quality and clarity of YouTube videos.

I am also having some problems when I am browsing. I may be browsing just fine for a while, but then I suddenly can't connect to any web sites anymore, even though I am still connected to my network with a strong 4 bar signal. It just seems to happen randomly, but usually it happens when I have more tabs open at once. I somtimes open a new window (not tab), and I am able to connect. Other times I have to exit the browser, restart it and I can connect once again with no problems. Again, I never actually get disconnected when this happens, so I don't know why this happens. I try to solve the issue by manually disconnecting from the network and then connecting again, but it usually doesn't fix it. I know there is nothing wrong with the network because my other laptop never seems to have this type of issue. Do you think maybe the wireless card is going bad or is it something to do with IE? I have the DW1520 Wireless-N Half-Mini Card. I updated the drivers for it, but it didn't seem to improve anything.

    I'd appreciate any help.
