Nice score, got it updated. +1. Also if possible, don't let imageshack resize your pics. just under the upload thing there should be an option to resize, and what size, if you click it you can scroll down to "Do Not Resize" Just makes it easier to see your screenshot.
Also as for temps... Check these out, Not my highest score with my 5870's, but one that I found. Check you those temps![]()
Vantage: P 21390
GPU: 21058
CPU: 22453

about your temp.......
WHAT THE FFF...........
how the hell did you do that?
epic photoshop!? lol
by the way is there any i7 2820qm overclocking guide?
I just realized my GPU score is higher than inap
but my cpu lost 2k score from him -
A good way of boosting your CPU score is first of all shutting down all unused apps and processes. GameBooster can easily do this for you with a click of a button.
Next you need to do some BCLK OC'ing which is done in the bios in the advanced options. Here:

wow nice score len888, thinking about doing some benching this weekend with a 6970 though with a volt mod. been dying to do a run but haven't had time yet.
-
thanks for the guide mate!
hey hows your i7 2820 cpu doing, how could you get that amazing score!?
Did you do cpu overcloking from teh bios?
teach mee dudee haha
i'd love to see what this system can really do.. -
oh my god... i love this... hahaha
im be back tomorrow... gonna throw smth new to my m17xLast edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -
Well I am not going for any records here obviously, but am curious what these 580s can do. I overvolted to .92v using widzu's vbios. I ran Vantage at 800 linked & 1800. I got stuttering results as my GPU hit 79C. Then I put a book under the back of laptop, which I have NEVER done before. Now it ran fine at those clocks maxing out at 74C (and I like typing on the angled keyboard more
)
My 2720 and 580m got:
17276 overall
16618 GPU
19604 CPU.
Thanks Widzu on the vBios overvolt, the book idea, and Gamebooster to kill most of my extra apps.
EDIT: AND THIS IS MY 1000th POST!
UPDATE:
I tried for 840/1800, but I started hitting the 79C thermal throttle. I guess that is why the freezer comes into play. I could watch the Benchmark go from a nice fluid 60+ frame rate to 3fps when the clocks got cut. This was with back angled up. Well that kinda sucks. I like how stable the 800/1800 OC is. I didn't see any artifacts at all, my 6990m started show minor ones at a similar benchmark score. -
-
No! But you are using a different model computer
-
side note:
make sure to post scores to 3dmark. -
I was trying to overclock the cards to above 800/1000, but I couldn't achieve much with them being undervolted. So I had to return them to stock voltage, here are some runs after o'cing:
-
looks good ahmadmud.
-
thanks john, I was wondering, what does ULPS mean? because when I increased the voltage to above 1.1V, even if it's very minute step say 1.105, it just locks the secondary gpu?
do you know if it's there is any way to bypass this limitation? -
how much the 6970m should be OCed to gain the stock performance of 6990m?
-
FINALLY BROKE HIGHEST ATI 6990M SCORE
Damn I never thought I am gonna reach Inap's score
-
Nice score len! Now you just need to match inaps CPU score
-
btw +1 rep mate! -
@Len Thanks
@ahmadmud Nice score! As far as ULPS (Ultra low power state), and your voltage issues, The 6900 series cards cant go past 1.1v The 5870's were able to go to 1.15v, but the 6900s max out at 1.1v. One of the draw backs of the cards -
@Len, watch out that you don't fry your GPU. You might have trouble getting it quickly replaced in your part of the world. Great scores, congratulations.
-
@ahmadmud
yes, what Dr said.
@Len
make sure to submit all these record breaking scores to futuremark.(if you haven't already) -
well, i guess it's a matter of how high can each card reach at those voltages then...
nice score by the way Len -
Thanks guys,
I am now having damn busy job in Jakarta.
When i got spare time, ill redo the stock thermal paste haha.
but yea so far my GPU temp never reach over 80c
@johnksss
may i know do you do submit scores to futuremark? =X
haha -
wow great job len, was gonna do some benching today but no dice, hahahah
edit: actually just ran one right now no dice, better overall score but gpu seem lacking.Attached Files:

how the h*** could you get that score!?!? -
How did u manage that gpu score? Lolz, Theres a huge difference with only a slight change in clocks. I just run ts when I bench, plus I have my bclk at 104.
-
I can't manage to oc the voltage though..
What do ya mean by bclk?
how do you change the cpu clock mate? :confused2: -
he means the bus speed, if you notice in cpu-z, it is set to 104.1 MHz
-
how could you do that?
different cpu has diff bus speed? -
default bus speed for sandy bridge is 100MHz, it used to be 133MHz for older generations but now it is different.
I believe you can overclock it using setfsb, but i am not sure... -
No not fsb, you do it in the bios. Here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/560044-m17x-r3-overclocking-sort.html -
yea last week i was reading on that cpu overclocking thread lol
the thing is should i enable or disable the "override turbo settings"? =/ -
Yeah do it, crank the short and long power limits as high as they go, and the TimeWindow to 56 (also the highest). Then work your BCLK up slowly.
-
by the way i just got another new score

time to repasting my stock thermal paste now~ haha -
Like I said yes enable it
-
i just repasted my thermal paste (using mx-4) for the both cpu and gpu
and did some small copper mod
before gpu idling at 55c (clock at 870/1220)
now gpu idling at 55c too -,- (clock at 875/1225) lol
edit: just redo repasting the thermal paste with tuniq tx-4
now idling at 53c (clock at 870/1220)
ran furmark for 10mins (stock clock) hovering at about 71c -
hohoho... after upgrade my lcd to FULL HD with 120hz... now not able to overclock the card edi
should i change it back to 60hz setting?? XD -
-
could be the version of gpuz he is running.
-
Hmm, 0.5.4 is reporting correct values, and he seems to have 0.5.5. Well, it doesn't really matter anyway.
-
rog edition or regular gpuz edition?
-
I'm using the regular version, is there a difference to the ROG (except for the skin)?
-
-
here is another run. yeah the latest gpu-z seems to be reporting the numbers that way. with or with rog skin its the same. just to lazy to switch versions sorry guys. only had time for one dice run, was using all the dice for a 6970, but thats a different project. i think these beta drivers are holding me back. anyone have a good one to recommend.

not really drivers but more so ccc settings...you have a higher gpu 2 test which is based more on memory over clock..vs test one is based more on core over clock.
keep running the same over clock to make sure it's what it should be....when you get more time...that is.
and when i ran these cards on dice...not much better than just running cold air...maybe another 10 to 15 mhz on core. -
yeah dice don't really help that much at all, like you said maybe like 10+ over standard cooling. but i still love seeing the negative numbers, lolz
-
dont get me wrong! i love to see them as well..just cant very well put a laptop @ -190C and expect any good to come from it...lol
i had it at about -120C, but things got to getting cold way to fast....when using ln2 -
yeah i know what you mean, but -190c would be awesome to see though
-
I hate you inap with your cooling dryice mod lols
btw how do ya flash your GPU clock up to 800/1100 @ stock clock?
and is there any recommended cooling mod you got there?
edit: do you replace all the thermal pads on the gpu area? may i know what thickness is the best for our system?
thanks! -
i used gpu-z to get the original bios. then used rbe to edit the bios. then used atiflash on a bootable usb to flash from dos. the revelator has a nice guide on it but i can't seem to find it. but i will attach some helpful links for you.
i use fuji poly premium .5mm pads with icd24 paste.

just remember that the info is for another card, so use and modify your original bios. DO NOT USE the ones in the link.
