    PCMark7: 5228 (OC'd)

    3DMark 11: P7022 (OC'd)

Adrenaline Crysis 2 benchmark tool: 1920x1080 bench: 52 fps avg (OC'd).

These are about as high as I can go without bios flashing, using Intel XTU and Nvidia Inspector.

PCMark should go a bit higher when I install a proper SSD.

I'm wondering about my temps and what is acceptable. For instance, I reach 101 degrees celsius on 100% load with OC. Is this kind of temperature sustainable for long term computing, or is it going to wear down on the thermal paste etc? I read that anything up to 105 degrees are considered 'normal operating temp' on the 3720qm, and that the CPU will continue up to 120-130c before telling the MB to shut down. But I'm mostly wondering about long term wear and these kind of temps (for instance, I like to run BOINC screensavers that go 100% load, reaching temps that fluctuate between 88 and 101 degrees on the hottest core).

That is not normal operating temp. The TJ max temp on that CPU is 105c, at which point it will throttle down to dissipate heat and prevent damage. You don't want to spend any substantial amount of time anywhere near TJ max, or you will most certainly degrade the lifespan of that CPU.

As a general OC rule, I like to stay 10-15 degrees below TJ max at a minimum, which in this case would be 90-95c.

90-95 sounds like my typical top temps. It only peaks very rarely at 101 on only the hottest core, which is typically 8-10 degrees hotter than the coolest. Running 90% load in Boinc for a long time, I reach only 92 degrees max on the hottest core, and as low as 79 on the coldest. So I'm good? I've never reached throttlepoint on the CPU and probably never will. It does go 3.8Ghz on all four cores for up to a minute before going back to 3.4-3.5 forever. On a single core, it does 4Ghz prolonged no problem. I guess I'm looking for a reason not to run OC'd as default :)

Here's where I got the 'anything under 105 is good' info: Intel 3720 qm overheating?

I'm wondering why my PCMark 7 score is so much lower than in this review. Anyone? Could this be because the video transcoding chip is on the iGPU, and the iGPU is disabled on my 3D system?? Or?

101? that's high but i'm assuming that you hit that with the 40x multi. It is not sustainable over the longterm

You'll need to repaste...and keep the back of your laptop propped up which will lower temps for a free 5-10c

101 as I said its only absolute max flare on the 1 hottest core out of 4. This is on max load on all 4 cores at max OC with standard cooling. More typical max load temp is about 90 - or 5 degrees below the standard clock temp of the guy in my earlier link! I read that the t-case is measured on the CPU package, not the cores themselves. If 90 degrees is sustainable as average max load temp, I think I'm fine.

hey fellas, seems to me the new "Sleeping Dogs" title will set the new level of graphics until Far Cry 3 comes out) the game is really heavy on the GPU if maxed out and looks just amazing with hi-res textures! here're my bench runs:

    Stock: GPU 850/1200

    [IMG] [IMG]

    Overclocked: GPU 980/1450

    is it sad that I have to revert back to stock vbios to play Max Payne 3/Sleeping Dogs without freeze or shutdown? They don't even bother to give a warning or "blah blah blah has stopped working" or something like my old 6990M/580M. I'm really loathing my 7970M now as I can't even get it to run stable at 900/1300 8-}

Your GPU score is a bit low for those clocks. I get about 6400 GPU at stock clocks. Nothing to worry about though. The Dell 680m throttles at above 850 core or anything above stock memory.

What do you mean by slv vbios? That's crazy how your score is only a little bit below mine but your gpu score is better than mine and my 680 was overclocked. Does the throttling slow it down?

    Thanks

No, I use this vbios, which puts the default clocks from 720 to 850 base - 889 boost. So basically it's a default OC'ed vbios. So you needn't worry, there is nothing wrong with your card, you get ok scores.

Big thanks to mi3x with guiding me on getting that new VBIOS 3DMarknew.jpg flashed. I just ran a 3d mark test and my numbers are awesome!! Only thing that is oc'd is my processor to 4.0ghz at turbo boost. Just using the beta nvidia drivers and the new VBIOS.. Temps stayed at 65 under load.. Super impressed

So what is the uptake on flashing the vBIOS vs just normal OC? Are you able to OC further?

No with the Dell cards, it will max out around 6700 without going any higher no matter how aggressive the overclock. The throttling will limit it.

Wow haha that's amazing! Good effort as well as that way higher than what I have ever got with a Dell one. I can score way over 8k with a 4GB one though as there is no throttling. I am also using custom drivers that are optimised for image quality over performance which is my personal preference.

The reason I asked about the vBios is because I can get stable P7000 just with Nvidia Inspector (and processor OC). And my ASI is only 90.5%.

    Hi Guys

I would love a little advice.
    i have an R3
    i7-2820
    8GB 1333Mhz Ram
    crucial SATA3 128Gb
    ATI 6970m
    1920x1080 screen
I have a08 unlocked BIOS with integrated graphics disabled, and i currently have dell video drivers installed

just ran 3dmark11 1.0.3 basic and got a score of p2753, with a graphics score of 2477, and i know this is pretty low for a 6970.
i noticed that according to 3d mark my core and memory clocks are running at 100 and 150 respectively.
So, i just ran gpu-z. and it's telling me my average clocks are 218 for core, and 318 for memory.
I ran sleeping dogs for about 2 minutes and the average core went to about 580 and memory was 749.

so, i just wondering if anyone has some ideas about this, and how i can get my gpu "up to par"

ok. so after playing for a bit clocks get to where they should be, but i still cannot figure out why i scored so low on 3d mark.

    Thanks

My laptop is going to be waiting for me when I get home and I do plan to overclock the CPU eventually. Will I need to repaste it or is the paste they use now good enough to not be an issue?

    Planned settings:
    Overclock Level: Level 1
    3/4: x38
    2: x39
    1: x40
    Flex VID: 0

Honestly I'm getting a 3820QM so I think each of those can go up by 1...

EDIT: I'm not planning on doing any GPU overclocks at this time. Just CPU ones.

if u plan to overclock id always go the extra mile and repaste ur cpu properly to keep it as cool and stable as possible.

Alright. I'll probably hold off anyways as stock speeds are likely enough for me but I'll keep it in mind for the future.

EDIT: These are benchmarks I got on my laptop. This is with Enduro off. Do these look ok?
