I thought you guys might like this... be advised these overclocked benchmarks drew between 315W and 340W with just one card. You might want to know that if you are shopping for 980M.

What if you used the new Alienware's much-publicized 180-watt power supply? You run after all only one gtx 980m ... HaHa
-
I think if you dont oc your cpu and gpu 180 will be enaugh, your cpu is 57w and gpu I read somewhere 95w but everyone is saying 110w...

Whatever it is too badly by Dell to deliver such when other laptop manufacturers deliver 230 - 240W power supply to their laptops with gtx970/980m ..
-
I had gtx 770m...with 240w...the new models shood me more eficient

Apparently not while overclocked, just like Haswell.

If it is possible to overclock the gtx980m in the Alienware 17 r2 then only graphics card consume + 125 watts. What is left of the power reserves (180 w) for all other hardware in this Laptop ? YES only 55 watts is left to the processor and the rest of the hardware on the laptop. What if you want to overclock the processor? This is starting to get ridiculous.
-
Let just be sad that the alienware 18 will no long be with us
-
Yes. Alienware starts to become an ordinary brand. It does not matter anymore what gaming laptop you should buy. All are equal.

New score in XTU bench 970 marks.
It gets better and better.

what is your temperature during this test?
-
Do not remember exactly but normally with everything maxed out approximately 91-93 degrees Celsius and a wattage of 114 watts. All xtu tests I run has been under max 94-95 degrees Celsius no matter with Xtu bench and when I test several times after another .. A Cinebench 11.5 bench test running at maximum 83 degrees Celsius with about 90w .. Clock speed keeps the whole test cycle. This is what counts for me.

woodzstack Alezka Computers , Official Clevo reseller.
My 3940xm won't EVER go past 93C either. So its like I'm limited in overclocking, up until that temperature. Mind you this nets me like mid 800's in XTU @ like 4.5Ghz

Ivy extreme processors are much colder and use less watts than Hotwell extreme processors when they are overclocked.
There was a mistake by Intel and introduce Fully Integrated Voltage Regulators (FIVR) as the Hotwell processor's becomes unnecessary warm due this. Especially on laptop processors who do not have as good cooling like a desktop processor. If you have a good thermal grease can Alienware cooling solution keep up with increased wattage and temperature due to overclocking. What is the CPU temperature and wattage in Cinebench 11.5 test on Your Laptop ?
New xtu bench score: 971 Marks. This goes better and better ..
Xtu bench test run with maximum processor temperature of 90 degrees Celsius during the test. papusan`s XTU score: 971 marks with a Core i7 4930MX

Hi
Have you figured out which setting to use in the bios? Are you still using the garbage profile OCl in the bios ?
-
I am trying to buy i7 4930mx
Hope I will manage. I am at default...I only checked once..the oc1...now I am at default and dont like it.

Strange that you have problems with xtu. All others get xtu to work with your processor regardless laptop brand. It must be a user error or there is your processor is of poor quality. If you are switching processor you must remember to hideaway your i7-4700mq if you need to reset the bios by problems with overclocking the extreme processor.
-
with i7 4930mx...if I can make it run all 4 cores at 4.0 I am happy...Now my i7 4700mq is running 4x3.2ghz...
-
A new processor should go on 3.5GHz on all 4 cores, as the processor is not going to be near bottleneck during CPU bound New game's. Especially if you upgrade your graphics card.
-
-
No..4x3.7ghz. Ewry game need a processor at minmum 3.5ghz ;-)
-
I will be happy if it's stays cool even at 3.7ghz...mine is at 3.2ghz 98% used...
-
My i7-4930 have 9.23 in cinebench 11.5 with 82 celsius with nearly 90w
-
Yeah, but I need it cold for 12h/day playing...and that's something, this i7 4700mq it stays under 75c all day.
-
Remember the A 17 was delivered with extreme processor up to 4940mx
-
Yeah I know, now on ebay I saw that every i7 4930mx is send with turboboost at 4.1 not 3.9...
-
A i7-4930mx have stock turbo boost from 1core 3.9 to 4 core 3.7
-
I need the speed of 4 cores...so it will stay at 3.7...compaird with 3.2 now it will make a diffrence
-
In evryting you put with the processor

Have tested a bit with mod vbios on my Alienware 17 Ranger. Runs gtx780m on 966 / 1491 with a 3DMark Fire Strike score of 5993. Processor physics score is 11,857. The temperature of the processor is 73grader while graphics card is 54 degrees centigrade. This is of course a small start.

15th in the world for HWbot 3940XM ranking! Not bad for noob benchmarker like me
.. I'm pretty sure I can do more if I can lock the clocks.. Throttlestop isn't being too stable at 4.5GHz and crashing when I try to lock clocks..

Got problems making throttlestop work and lock clocks.. Need to look into this and my rank in HWBot from 15th should increase

Hi Branzy1987 you test your graphics card with 1050 while I tests with 993. Must have a 330W power supply if I should run a much higher clock frequency of the graphics card. Have reduced screen light to reduce wattage. Using already + 230W under bench tests. But this is going to be good .. The difference in graphics score is so small that I might need only increase a little to get the same graphics score. Unfortunately costs a 330W $ 265 where I live .. http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/4124793/fs/4146554

Is there no one in the thread that like chasing numbers and post benchmarks in the thread..

Hehe.. New OC on my 970M.. +400 core + 575 memory.. Any higher memory clocks are crashing my PSU.. I think it's been weakened a bit.. may need to get a new one soon.. And oh yes, 3940XM @4.3GHz on 4 cores isn't helping

TomJGX it's a great score in Fire Strike. Purchase a 330W power supply with good conscience. I must also do the same because I have to turn off the lights almost completely on the screen and all Alien fx light's during the benchmark tests.

Has anyone had any luck pushing an i7 4700MQ? Any higher than 101.5 MHz reference (100MHz default) crashes my system lol
Also, seeing as my GTX770m is standing up quite well to +135 core and +580 memory, I had a question about VBIOS unlock...will the GPU still throttle back on idle?Papusan likes this. -
1. If you try to oc the cpu you have 99% chances to block your bios, I did 4 times to my sistem and if you check the forum there are a lot of guys that did that two.
2. It's a good thing that your gpu "throttle" down when it's in idle, because you dont need it to run at full speed when you dont use it, it's the same on cpu, goes back to 800mhz when it's in idle, vbios from slv7 it's verry good, I have it on my gtx 780m, and I had no issue with it and it runs so cool and good performance.Papusan likes this.
