    How do I accomplish this? I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers (CC Cleaner, Driver Sweeper in safe mode, etc.)

    3d
    standard
    defaults
    apply
    ok

    once reset. do a quick test.
    then start slowly changing it back to the way it was..the run bench again.
    check for being in standard more or turbo off

    defrag?
    and are you sure both your cards are running in crossfire with the exact same drivers for both cards?

    Back to topic, is there a chance to manually control the fans on M17X? I was looking into that DSDT table hack, but with no success so far.
    Any ideas?

    You could just hardwire it to a 12V battery.....not sure if the BIOS will boot with the fan unplugged though. Maybe buy a second set of fans to use as dummies on the motherboard and then battery the fan actually doing the cooling.

    Not really a compact solution....but should work lol

    lol, I think it will boot. I think I tried it when benching. Can't exactly remember though. I'm hoping we can find somone to hack the bios to allow for more voltage increase over the 150mV. I'd pay for that.

    The problem is the Phoenix Bios is so dam locked up. There is a whole forum on bios mods and they are good at what they do and no one has been able to crack a phoenix bios yet :(

    You have seen my wish list of bios features lol, probably 90-100% doable if we could just get inside it

    :( We could really turn out some serious numbers. They way I see it, the bios already allows for a voltage increase, so voltage has to be unlocked. Maybe through a program like SetFSB, or ThrottleStop. The bios already allows fsb adjustment to 5% and it does the exact same thing as SetFSB. So the voltage would definately be possible, if somone was so inclined and had the smarts. I just wish I was more computer literate on things like that. But yea the bios wish list would be doable, and definately nice to have. Grrrr phoenix

    BCLK, maybe memory multiplier, memory and cpu voltage, possibly cpu multiplier. fan speed. All definitely doable. Would be nice if we saw some chipset options as well.

    I will be resuming M17x benching in the next day or 2 :) Gotta try a few things while I got the 4870s in there and then the GTX 280m's go in

    Haha nice scook, I saw that :( One time in my glory days I had 90+ pts and 40 gold cups. Now I'm down to a measly 26 :( lol I need to get some hardware, and a system with more benching capabilities. I don't think my 720M has a chance of catching Johns, even with the 150mV extra voltage. Highest I've validated is 3.2xx GHz.

    That is kind of how I felt when CodeBreaker started benching the 4870s with is R2 lol, killed many of my cups in that category. That is the work I have to do, figure out the loss in memory bandwidth and try to sweep that category :)

    Doing that right off the bat should result in you showing 2.8 GHz or something like since 3 cores idle you are always in turbo boost mode. Should make the overclocking little easier too. Also disable hyperthreading

    Since I have 8 threads, msconfig gives me 8 processors. So if I choose 1, would that be the same as disabling hyperthreading? If not how would I go about that?

    Hmm I'll have to check, So theoretically it can OC further due to the lack of activity on the other cores and the same voltage all applied to one core? I don't really nead stability, just stable enough to validate ;)

    How can that not help you? And yes, more power available for that one core

    yep, that was the very one..but it involves voiding the warranty right off the bat. you have to remove a chip off the motherboard to unlock 166 qpi. i looked at doing that for the g73, but the pll chip is far to much of a pain to attempt a wire jump.

    you will probably boot with 1 core and two threads using the msconfig way.

    Ahh, ok, well I have some GPU drivers downloading at 17kb/sec so I'll be playing around with it after they finish up. ISee if I can get the 720 stable and higher, and if so, I'll have to apply the same method across the board on all CPUs.

    John, I am benching the Intel GMA in my Asus now haha

    I am doing surprisingly well compared to the competition. I guess it is because I have massive memory bandwidth for the GPU/CPU haha (1280MHz DDR3 cas 6 :) ) compared to all the 800fsb ddr2 folk

    going by the voltage that i didnt have...you might be able to secure a 3.55 ghz over clock...speculation of course.
    430m = 181 mhz qpi
    520m = 163 mhz qpi
    720m = 164 mhz qpi

    very nice work!
