Avast, ye hornswoggler! By the Kraken's beak, today be tuh Talk Like em Pirates Day! Read em newspapers, ye scallywag!
Ahoy, me hearties! Catch tuh wind! -
i lol'd.....
-
nope, something is definatley wrong... fresh bench run this mroning, still 3k less... the only thing I can think of is me f*cking with my settings trying to get HDMI to work... damn it!
-
start by doing a driver reset under ccc for 3d
-
How do I accomplish this? I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers (CC Cleaner, Driver Sweeper in safe mode, etc.)
-
graphics
3d
standard
defaults
apply
ok
once reset. do a quick test.
then start slowly changing it back to the way it was..the run bench again.
check for being in standard more or turbo off -
Well, I reset to factory defaults... still 3k off. I reformatted and finishing up some intstalls... will defrag then run tests again to see what it is...
-
defrag?
and are you sure both your cards are running in crossfire with the exact same drivers for both cards? -
yes, both cards are running with the same drivers. Its VERY odd what happened... I can't understand why...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
When in doubt....reformat
-
Is this a normal 3dmark06 score?
Wasn't sure, and the thread is far too large for me to be able to find someone with my same hardware config to compare to. Thanks for the info guys
-
ok, the reformat fixed whatever I messed up. All is well now.
-
Yes, Great Scores bro!
-
now before you get to happy.
make a system restore point right now. -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
So glad this only happens once a year bc I am LOl at my desk and people think I am craaaaaazy!!!! And you are very good at it I might add. -
Yeah, that was fun! You should have seen the avatar, - that was a huge ROFL, IMO.
Back to topic, is there a chance to manually control the fans on M17X? I was looking into that DSDT table hack, but with no success so far.
Any ideas? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
You could just hardwire it to a 12V battery.....not sure if the BIOS will boot with the fan unplugged though. Maybe buy a second set of fans to use as dummies on the motherboard and then battery the fan actually doing the cooling.
Not really a compact solution....but should work lol -
lol, I think it will boot. I think I tried it when benching. Can't exactly remember though. I'm hoping we can find somone to hack the bios to allow for more voltage increase over the 150mV. I'd pay for that.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The problem is the Phoenix Bios is so dam locked up. There is a whole forum on bios mods and they are good at what they do and no one has been able to crack a phoenix bios yet
You have seen my wish list of bios features lol, probably 90-100% doable if we could just get inside it -
We could really turn out some serious numbers. They way I see it, the bios already allows for a voltage increase, so voltage has to be unlocked. Maybe through a program like SetFSB, or ThrottleStop. The bios already allows fsb adjustment to 5% and it does the exact same thing as SetFSB. So the voltage would definately be possible, if somone was so inclined and had the smarts. I just wish I was more computer literate on things like that. But yea the bios wish list would be doable, and definately nice to have. Grrrr phoenix

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
BCLK, maybe memory multiplier, memory and cpu voltage, possibly cpu multiplier. fan speed. All definitely doable. Would be nice if we saw some chipset options as well.
-
well they can see our bios, but working out just how to make those changes.

For any curious peoples, Toms Hardware did a decent comparison between single and dual 5870s and a single GTX 480m all housed in an identical x8100 system. So it is a very good comparison.

Come on people where is the BENCHING
I'm itching to update the score's
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well I benched the bejesus out of my Asus UL80VT-A1 lol, pretty sure that DR650e and TheCodeBreaker are not happy about that haha
I will be resuming M17x benching in the next day or 2
Gotta try a few things while I got the 4870s in there and then the GTX 280m's go in
-
Haha nice scook, I saw that
One time in my glory days I had 90+ pts and 40 gold cups. Now I'm down to a measly 26
lol I need to get some hardware, and a system with more benching capabilities. I don't think my 720M has a chance of catching Johns, even with the 150mV extra voltage. Highest I've validated is 3.2xx GHz.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That is kind of how I felt when CodeBreaker started benching the 4870s with is R2 lol, killed many of my cups in that category. That is the work I have to do, figure out the loss in memory bandwidth and try to sweep that category
-
lol, my fiance and parents, not to mention my brother are likely to get frustrated with me stealing there notebooks in the middle of the night to bench, even for stock scores
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Nice lol. I need to do that on my girlfriends laptop too.
-
yeah, well did you look at that guy with the msi
3.7 ghz
also, try validating with one core and one thread. -
Hmm, how can I do that john? I say that, a big frown came across my face lol. I think the best at the moment I can pull off is like 5th place or something like that. Maybe I'll have better luck when my 540M gets in.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I assume that is the MSI model you were looking at John? lol -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Tell windows to only boot using 1 core - in boot options in msconfig -
Gotcha. Was wondering if there was something else to it but the simpliest answer is normally the right one
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Doing that right off the bat should result in you showing 2.8 GHz or something like since 3 cores idle you are always in turbo boost mode. Should make the overclocking little easier too. Also disable hyperthreading
-
How'd you go with score's wise scook?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
What scores you referring to? I have alot haha
-
Since I have 8 threads, msconfig gives me 8 processors. So if I choose 1, would that be the same as disabling hyperthreading? If not how would I go about that?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Can you turn off hyperthreading in the BIOS? If so I would do that and then choose one processor from within windows and reboot
-
Hmm I'll have to check, So theoretically it can OC further due to the lack of activity on the other cores and the same voltage all applied to one core? I don't really nead stability, just stable enough to validate
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
You are giving the processor less chances to malfunction
How can that not help you? And yes, more power available for that one core -
yep, that was the very one..but it involves voiding the warranty right off the bat. you have to remove a chip off the motherboard to unlock 166 qpi. i looked at doing that for the g73, but the pll chip is far to much of a pain to attempt a wire jump.
you will probably boot with 1 core and two threads using the msconfig way. -
Ahh, ok, well I have some GPU drivers downloading at 17kb/sec so I'll be playing around with it after they finish up. ISee if I can get the 720 stable and higher, and if so, I'll have to apply the same method across the board on all CPUs.
-
that depends on what your benching...not all test like single or dual core to get higher scores.
-
Well mainly CPU-Z is what I'm looking at.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
John, I am benching the Intel GMA in my Asus now haha
I am doing surprisingly well compared to the competition. I guess it is because I have massive memory bandwidth for the GPU/CPU haha (1280MHz DDR3 cas 6
) compared to all the 800fsb ddr2 folk
-
going by the voltage that i didnt have...you might be able to secure a 3.55 ghz over clock...speculation of course.
430m = 181 mhz qpi
520m = 163 mhz qpi
720m = 164 mhz qpi
very nice work! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I got like 8th place for 01 and working on 03 now. Had to lower my OC a tick
lol
-
lol, Wait till you bench vantage on that. lol I had a super low score
looked like a slideshow on slow settings.
