I figured as much, but I'm going to try and talk him into letting me do the work. I'd perfer that over somone else working on it.

They will let you do the work, but still have to take the old part back with them, at least that has been my experience so far

Here is my latest bench. Got frustrated with the 720M try to shave miliseconds off my time to win a SuperPi 32M Gold cup. Figured I'd move on to the i5 540M

I think if I can run it over 4GHz, which I should, I might even be able to pick up a global point or two as well.

Trying to Run SuperPi, and I keep getting "Not exact in round" and "Not convergent in SQR05" I'm I hitting the CPU limit at the current voltage? I'm having to back down to get a complete run.

Hey Guys.. Sorry for the noob qstn. Hv any of u benched yr system wif Heavenbenchmark from Unigine?
If so can you pls provide yr score screenshot? I'd like to compare it wif my humble system. My score is just 770 (seems too low  ). Or is it normal?

    Thanks in advance!

when you over clock cpu you over clock the ram.
ram operates differently with different cpus..is the best way to explain it.

Yea when I was using the quad I noticed it was at timing 9-9-9-24, dual core its at 7-7-7-20. FSB :DRAM ration of 2:10 with the quads, and duals it's 4:10

Yea, It would be nice to have that and voltage.

This 540M is solid. I can take it in SetFSB from 139/750 straight to 202/750 4.040 GHz without it crashing. Works every time. I havn't gone higher, but it'll crash around 206/207. I love OCing these dual cores. I'm going to bench the 520M later as well. I can do much better than what I've posted so far,

if you hold all the records in that class...then i would put it off for a bit, but if you dont...then bench away.
i got a 181bclk on the 430m. i was a bit surprised by that myself. was like how come these other chips dont clock that high...lol
but the 620 will pace the 920 in any single core test

I bet, 620 is one that I want to bench as well. But the duals you can run the blck much much higher than a quad. The 520 I just want to take back the CPU-Z record, which should be to hard. The guy used a PLL pin mod and a hardware mod for voltage. I think I can out do it. Only need it stable for a few sec.

WOW the dual cores can OC up quite a bit ey. Very nice.
Sorry to hear about your master GPU card dying. Hope its all sorted out quick smart by dell. Not to be the bearer of bad news but a few others were still waiting on the card stock before the techie could come out and replace their GPUs. Hopefully that is not the case for where you reside.

Hmmsss these 540, 620, 640 cpus seem to be excellent overclocking processors.

    Cheers. :)

Thanks for your condolences, lol. But it will be a while, Should be about a 3-4 weeks till I'm home in the states. As long as I have one good GPU, than I'm good. But hopefully it won't take too long after that.

But I'd definately love to get a 640. These things are fun to OC :D

That is a pretty decent overclock on the gpus. Now give the CPU a shot. The CPU is what will really make score start going up

yeah, once you start on the cpu, the score will jump up to around 20k id imagine. you should be able to get a little more out of the cards, if you follow the link in my sig, you will see i was able to get it up around 695/1150 before it started whiting out.

Just submitted my i5 540M CPU Benchmarks. I need to get ahold of the 6 series CPUs, I can pick up some global points with the 620M/640M CPUs, at least in wPrime. John, in HWBot for the 620M, I noticed you had submissions under 2x Cores, and 4x Cores. Is there something I'm missing? Some way I can make more submissions? Possibly more awards?

wPrime, I'm assuming 2x you submit as two threads? 4x= four threads? I've been running 4 threads, and submitting as 2x since the 520m/540m are dual core. Maybe I was doing it wrong

No prob, If you throw them in dual core, you should net a few global points. I submitted my 540M, and gained a few. Was wondering if I was missing out on some points I hadn't thought to submit. Was hoping anyhow :p

Hmm, maybe I'm confused. I submit it as a single socket, and HWbot places it in the dual core, but your submissions under 4x cores had me confused. I may have been interpreting socket wrong.

i was wondering how he kept that trophy. never even picked up on it being 4x instead of 2x

Hmm, thats the same thing I'm seeing. I enter it as a single socket, HWBot places under 2 cores. You have submissions in both 2x and 4x in submissions for the 620M under wPrime1024 and 32. but your 4x number is faster, and should be a gold cup, in the 2x.

    Number of cores: Any 1x 2x 3x 4x

that's what i do as well.
if you do a dual core...you'll see my 3200 mhz run as well..with no points.

that is weird....but i wont get any global points as i have higher dual/quad/hex cpu scores on the desktop

Iam new to Overclocking this computer, was easier with my desktop as i could do it in BIOS,

I am having trouble finding options to Overclock my i7 820QM. The CPU Frequency OverClocking in BIOS is locked no idea how to unlock it if possible. E-Leet won't set multipliers when hitting apply, can't figure if I am able to set in the BIOS if i can get that 5% Boost i was reading about does this have to do with the Vcore setting or should i keep that at default or does that only apply to the 920+ Processors, I tryed some other options too without any success.

A little help for a noob would be appreciated Thanks.

    P.S.
would this option be my only option I don't really want to open up my M17xR2 to look for that number.

Agreed. Only option is SetFSB. The 5% is reserved for the extreme CPU's like 920XM/940XM. The multipliers as well. With SetFSB you can adjust the BCLK to increase the CPU Freq.

John, I see you picked up a 920XM, Nice!

Man, this is not a good week for me. I just zapped my benching OS. :( Now I have to see if I can recover anything from it, but it looks like I might have to secure erase and reinstall. Time consuming PITA

I tried a few different physx drivers, all showing the same behavior. A full 1 OPS slower than I was back in July :( That is shaving about 400 points off my CPU score

since we have jokes this morning...it's technically called physics. and you use physx hardware to run it :) :D
and that test is based off of gpu over clock.
so try resetting your driver to factory defaults, then set it back to the way you have it for benching...see if that picks ups the lost ops

Hmm, I'm trying to reformat my 40GB SSD and it's looking dead. Right now in device manager it's picking it up as an 8MB drive, and when I try and initialize it, I'm getting "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error" :( I couldn't even get a secure erase done, it just sat there doing nothing after it started. Any ideas?

what happens if you try to boot with the drive in place, same thing? 8meg drive?
(meaning boot as a secondary drive)
    or even hot swapping it.

I get a message about a potential failure and to back everything up. At the time I was running wPrime, on the 920XM and it locked up. Not really sure how it could have corrupted the drive though. The 8mb came after trying to secure erase it, and then trying to reformat after the secure erase failed. It used to have the 100MB system reserved partition on it. Now, not so much.
