lol, nope don't see anything that would resemble that, and I removed the cover.

Well so far I have only finished one run with 10.9.....have to lower the OC to get this driver stable. Still working on it. The one run so far was not exceptional but I am going to wait before passing judgement.
-
but does it rank though?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have not beat my current top score overall yet. Only a new best gpu score but the overall was bad. I am starting to feel like P15k Vantage just is not meant to be
-
Sometimes it pays to have geeky skills. I was getting this setting the password in Ubuntu for the security erase.
Issuing SECURITY_SET_PASS command, password="Eins", user=master, mode=high
SECURITY_SET_PASS: Input/output error
I went ahead and forced the security erase anyway and it worked. I'm back in the game! Now I have the time consuming task of reconstructing my Benchmarking SSD
-
you'll get it
nice!
sure hope your doing that from an image or a backup? -
Image? yea... about that... I've been to busy benching that I never got around to installing Achronis...call me lazy...
lesson learned. It's my top priority tommorrow afterwork.
-
first up on my list.
"i told you so"
now just waiting on scook over there to do the same thing..
and you can use the windows 7 backup feature and a flash drive to invoke it. -
+1, well played lol. Yea, it's going to go on an external. Maybe even two of them. Shouldn't be too big, but will save a lot of time and headache. Now I have to d/l and dig up stuff. At least I have most of it on my storage drive. Also going to have to go back through the forum, and HWbot to get all my top bench screenshots for each CPU too. That should be fun. I like to keep records. Well at least a little hurdle served as a lesson for me. Learned how to recover the drive, and now I know why I need to make backups
-
i might have to get familiar with that Ubuntu...wonder if it works on ocz as well.
this is why i now store all benching results on another drive. i lost way to many screen shots behind NOT doing that..grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I regularly do a windows back up John. I would be doing Acronis (preferred by me) but it does not play nice with this Intel 160gb drive for some reason.
I am done benching for the day....opened the freezer lid to power cycle the laptop and it dumped water on the laptop. Emergency powered down everything and took it out to dry now. The shroud over the light was the culprit....it has now been removed. I will maybe do some more tomorrow....but that is all for today.
So far 10.9 seems like it is not working out for the 4870s. I switched back to 10.6 and was testing it when the water happened. All my top gpu scores have been with 10.6 so far. Just have to figure out this cpu score problem or I am stuck sub 15k
My patience is growing thin with the 4870s....many many hours have already gone into them with the freezer (like 2 weeks of every night for hours in July) so they will probably get one or two more days then I am going to put in the GTX 280m's. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
All of my storage is done on the 640gb. All of the programs live on the ssd. -
oh man! sorry to hear about that!!
i know your not going to like this....but i would take the whole thing apart. completely.
also..was it throttling?
and did you run one 4870 to see what it got by itself? -
The Ubuntu security erase should work with the OCZ, I don't see why not and it's very simple. I did it on my samsung drives as well. I keep a bootable 1GB USB Ubuntu thumb drive around for it.
But also like scook, All my storage goes on my 640GB, Not sure why I didn't put my benching screen shots on it, but now that I hear Acronis doesn't play well with the intel drives, I may just use the windows feature. But the progams go on the SSD. I have all the installers for the Futuremark programs on the storage drive, as well as some benching tools. Might have to get the CPU bench progams. No biggie. I'll be better prepared next time. This put a big dent in my time tonight. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Acronis worked with the 80gb intel, just not the 160 apparently. I did not try it on my desktop though (intel chipset). The nvidia chipset did not like my OWC Mercury drive so maybe it was also blocking the Intel from working.
And that should not be necessary John. Only the lid got wet really, and being one solid piece, no penetration. This has happened before lol just not this bad. Sitting out at room temp/humidity for a few hours should do it. I already wiped off the large majority of the water. At this point it is just the usual defrost period after coming out of the freezer. Worst case scenario, spill damage is covered by my warranty haha (although I am certain I wont need it) -
same here..it's mainly stored on my 500gb internal drive, with pictures copied to the server as well.
you said it got wet..i was thinking more along the lines of the famous "water on the keyboard" mah bad.
hummmm, acronis should have worked..it work on a raid 2x 120 vertex. but even right now...im using the windows 7 backup.
and are you backing the os up using the disc made by acronis or from within windows? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I am backing up within windows. The created image is stored on the 640gb. It is about 130gb itself (one of the reasons I upgraded to the 640 from a 320 - I am not really a media hoarder)
Every time I tried using acronis with the 160gb on this laptop it would throw an error and terminate. -
130 gig backup!
damn! you guys got me beat by a long shot!
but then you store your games in there as well...more than likely. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ya it is a fully functional system for me. I am not using a dedicated benching install. I did get the 160gb over the 128 I had because I needed more space haha
-
so no benching for a few days huh?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Idk, kind of discouraged at the moment. Might just take a break from, the 4870s. I have some thermal pad coming in so I will do the appropriate mods and throw in the GTX 280m's. Switching GPUs out is pretty painless in this laptop (unlike the CPU)
I also need to overclock this desktop at some point. Although I think that will lead to more stress haha (this cpu seems to consistently flake out if the ram is at the xmp speed of 1600 with the rest of the system stock) -
it's because the xmp's dont always line up with what's really in a system
so you set the xmp, then you slightly modify it to work with what you have.
it's usually the cpu vtt is off or if your running like 12 gigs of ram..then you need more voltage. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I see. We will play with that when I decide to OC the desktop. From what I have read, that ram does not really OC well, so I will want to keep it around 1600. Should be ok though. Since I have an extreme now I can do 200 bclk and just bump the multi up to around 4.8 then everything should be happy.
-
on plain water? i think not...lmao!
but i will be the first to congratulate once you make that happen though! -
Hey benchers.. So ive done some oc on my system. 850/1050/1.1v and this give me 15658 gpu points and 14038 overall points. Ive been up to 880/ 1100/1.12v and that gave me 16078 gpu points
. It was stable but furmark got up to 103c so i pulled the oc back to 850/1050/1.1v and furmark maxed 91c. Now i wanted to try setfsb, downloaded and donated to Abo and get it stable to bus speed 146 and 1764mhz instead of 1596mhz. The index went from 7.0 to 7.2. Vantage cpu score from 10700p to 11050p So it works very good.. But when i try bad company 2 it lowers my fps from 89fps to 78fps
. So more than 10 fps in different areas of the game.. Am i missing something here. I havnt messed with anything in the bios. Do i need more juice to the cpu perhaps
?? I just want the most out of my system
..
-
Hey chiefs nice nice.
Yeh try increasing the Vcore to 75mv or 150mv. (In there performance options in the BIOS). That should stabalise your CPU OC. Give it more juice and stability when OCing.
Also sometimes when OCing too much can also drop frames instead of increasing them. So once that happens its either your producing too much heat or you need more juice/power lol.
Have fun OCing Enjoy!!!
Cheers.
-
i noticed on my 5850 in BFBC2 when playing at 850/1050 it was unstable and FPS was jumping all over but at 850/1000 or 850/1100 it was much more stable. So play with your clock rate like "reborn2003" said and see how it goes. You can play in windowed mode while having gpu-z and amd gpu clock tools open to play with the clock rates
-
Yeah, i,l try that... He,he..... This is fun
Until i break something
-
So i increased in the bios to 75mv and did the benchmark that is in hwmonitor. And the result became worse
. Im at 1748 mhz and i dont think its to high. If i go past 1800 mhz the sytem crashes so i just think its a bit weird. Vantage is 1000p higher, 3dmark06 is 300p higher and index from 7.0 to 7.2?? But a overall of 14622 in Vantage aint so bad with this cpu
-
Careful what you Furmark, Furmark sucks a lot of juice through the cards. I was running 910/1230 1.15v a 3-4 days ago and it got up to 80* and suddenly fried my master 5870 GPU. I had to remove the master and crossfire cable and put the slave in it's place and am running on a single GPU till I get home and can have dell RMA the card. Just a warning. I'm pretty sure it was fried due to power consumption as temps were low 80*C
I now have to play the waiting game waiting for Abo to send me a new code as I had to reinstall Set FSB
annnnnd the internet is down in my room
Sometimes things just have good timing lol

I cant get a score on my M17x for my 4870s for Aquamark
It runs the bench and then just crashes when it should be calculating the score. I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled and it still happens. It works fine on all my other computers
-
did you replace the aquakmark.exe and direcpll.dll file with the patched versions of the files?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Yes John, I could run the bench but it would crash instead of generating a score
-
What a discouraging evening. Started benching and an hour and half into it, a pifast run crashes and I get the same HDD error. Maybe the SSD is really dying. Now the choice, do I risk the abuse on a new X25-M? I have an extra, and am thinking I might bench on it. I'm going to try the 40GB X25-V once more, and if that gives me the same error, I'll try to RMA it, and if not it's headed to the can
It was nice having a small dedicated benching SSD that I can just swap out with my everday use SSD, although my PCMark05 scores suffered as a result of the small slower SSD...
-
and the main cause for this is the aquamark.exe or direcpll.dll file are not the correct versions. at least it was for the majority...you might have a different problem. does it rash right at the explosion in the end?
sorry to hear that. -
No prob, the pack date is 25DDEC09, so I might be able to get it RMAed. Still have all original packing, just bought it used so I don't have reciepts. Emailed babyhemi, so we'll see. At least it wasn't another GPU
-
this is true!!! better a drive than that.
scook9:
im installing aquamark on a g51j right now. will see if i get the same problems as you.
test is running..
1: crashed on startup with original aquamark.exe file
2: ran and gave a complete score when i changed aquamark.exe file only with patch 64 bit version.
this is also running on a 260M.
not to bad of a first run score...141,279 -
my R1 has a ton of issues and here is my best 3dmark06 score:
11820
2.0-4497
3.0-5155
cpu-4243
that's without cfX- OC'ed to 3.06 GHz -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
John, it does not crash at the big explosion, it finishes that sequence then goes to a black screen and just stays there. Is all black with just the CF logo still showing in the corner
-
humor me on this one....
plug up your desktop monitor. just to see if it will pick up.(so let it crash, then plug up monitor, then hit f-whatever and see if anything happens) -
how in the hell are people getting 4+ ghz on the qx9300? mine crashes above 3.2
-
1: your not cold enough for that.
2: not enough voltage either.
3: wanting to run above 4 ghz for every day computing...not really a very good idea... -
1: i can get it colder, no problem
2: how do i raise the voltage?
3: i know that. -
just as long as you know..
and when scook gets back on, just ask him...since he holds the record for it. -
without crossfire that seems ok. there are a few different ways to get it colder, you just have to use your imagination, i tend to pull off my keyboard and the bottom plate and run a wall ac directly on top of it, while its on a laptop cooler ,making sure that there is air pressure all around it so that the the air circulates. Scook use a chest freezer. its really up to you.
you can use throttle stop to bump the voltage, btu you need to be Extremely careful in doing that, as you can fry your CPU very quickly. Scook would probs be the best person to ask questions, as he has the same setup as you. -
ok cool.
what's the best mark06 a R2 has made?
nvm found it. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have the best for an R1
Link in my sig. I could probably take it higher, only did one run at 4.16 GHz (goal was just above 22k hehe)
For the rest, Clever filled you in I think -
scook do you think it would have mattered if you had 8gb ram instead of 4? that would be the only real difference i can see that would affect the score between our systems.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Not 1 point difference. Even 4 gb is overkill. I only had 2 sticks in to get the dual channel speeds.
-
holy crap u even have the lame 640 gb HDD. why did you get that? when i got mine i didn't know it was only 5,400 rpms.
