Hahaha thats awesome John, lol. Fiance relies on me to fix it when she breaks it. I bought her current laptop after her Toshiba Satalite was crap and died according to her. So I grabbed an Inspiron 1545 from Best buy. I had to wash dried soda out of the keyboard on the Toshiba, and since I figured it was junk, I took the keyboard off and just washed it in the sink lol. Then air dried it for a day. When I type I need the keys to pop back up lol. I'm going to bench that thing hahaha

Haha, exactly why I got one. Though I got it so I could surf NBR and HWbot on the couch while using the M17x hooked up to my projector. NBR on a 50" screen! lol

    MOAR NBR

    lol

I originally got my cheap logitech keyboard/mouse for the HTPC. Then I caved and got a DiNovo Edge :D

Now the cheap set is relegated to chest freezer benching set-up lol (see, I made it on topic still! haha)

hey let me know what specs that was and this is the one i saw on frys.com i am sure store inventory is different but did the store model come with crossfire 5870 and RGB. I have family in Dallas and might have them check to see if any m17x in stock to snatch up and return the outlet model.

    FRYS.com|Alienware

Also even with the new GPU refresh i would imagine they would sell for $2300-$2500 for a crossfire setup with RGB. I wonder if the 6xxx series is a jump big enough to justify a 30%-50% bump in price from what i paid in the outlet. I wonder how much bump in performance we should expect from the higher bandwidth. You can never keep up with tech but always nice to know what to expect

    thanks

The frys model looks the exact same as the MicroCenter one (dam you john for getting both!) at a comparable price.

My only complaint with them both.....the screen

And I would be happy with that price Faiz lol (my M17x after the warranty upgrade and other stuff is pushing $4k - and I got the cpu cheap......)

Oh yeah a sandy bridge with newer gpu's would be spanking the r1 and r2 all over the place. I was thinking they might come up with a slight GPU refresh before coming out with a full CPU n GPU refresh...this will be interesting to see how this all plays out and if CES will have any effect.

@scook: thanks man just need to enjoy the machine and not worry about trying to be on the bleeding edge everytime...more things to loose sleep over than having the latest and greatest for that short amount of time. ETD was 10/18 and now been bumped up to 10/15 FRIDAY.

Got myself a R2 after having all sorts of problems with the R1.

    With 2x260 and Q9000 i pulled around 12500 in 3Dmarko6 on the R1
Got an ES QX9200, and maxed out at 14300.

In this new rig i have 920XM, XFire 4870's and with the stock 5% OC in BIOS i maxed out at 18150. Quite a nice jump in performance. :)

shoot. i didn't get that one...i was sure as looking at it though...lol

    faiz23:
and frys is funny. since half of them know me over in the laptop/vga section...we just be chatting it up. then they turned me on to that one. it's a fully spec'd machine with 720qm and i think you add like 40 to 80 bucks for a 2 year extended warranty. not to bad...but it's also...open box. (we all know how that is)
i was not impressed with that screen! not at all!

and as of right now....a 6870 isn't beating a gtx470....but we will wait a month before we all start bashing new cards. usually takes like 2 to 4 months to actually get them working right to begin with... :)

I just rebenched my i5 540M which can really overclock and very stable. Picked up 6 global points [IMG]

Also boosted my score a little bit in 3DMark2001 and Aquamark, but the system only responds to CPU OC as far as I can tell and I was benching both at 4GHz+

Haha, exacty, Annnnnnd Unlocked TDP/TDC! It never occured to me that the TDP might be unlocked on a sub XM CPU, but this one was :D I just opened throttle stop out of habit and was suprised when I saw a 25W TDP, so naturally I bumped it up to 100W. Then I blew up the bus speed, and was able to use use the 21 multiplier. Core 0 has a max of 23, but since Core 1 was a 21 max, I guess thats where it sat.

Be great if XP does help, especially since in 3DMark is CPU dependant. I need to figure out how to install it, just been to lazy.

XP gives a measurable boost in all but Vantage and I will need whatever I can get against the i7 monster (now that you can unlock your TDPs)

My main concern is that the hit in memory bandwidth that I take when overclocking with ThrottleStop seems to also hurt the scores in 01/03/05. I was getting a little lower scores at 4 Ghz than I was at 3.33 GHz.

I will be playing with booting a low fsb high multi and then using NST to step it up. Hopefully NST does not suck as much in XP as it did in Win 7 for this. God I wish SetFSB worked on nvidia chipsets :(

Hmm, I bet the mem bandwith is my issue for aqua mark and 01. I can't get close to johns scores for the 5870, even though my CPU is at a much higher clock. Hmm...

Yea unlocked TDP is great assuming it stays cool. but you definately need some help going agaist the 920XM. I'll keep an eye out for the scores.

Do some tests with MaxxMem and see if ThrottleStop is effecting your memory bandwidth. It is axing mine down to like 60% when I boost my multi :(

But I think the blame there is in the chipset and not ThrottleStop itself

I think I'll give that a shot when I get home, got less than a week here. But that might be the key to my scores. PCMark05, 3DMark2001, and Aquamark I think might be taking a hit from that. Thats definately on my to do list. I was giving it some thought the other day, and thinking that it was coming down to the memory. I've never messed with it before so I'tll take some reading.

Hmm, what happened to Johns points, yesterday on the team page I thought he had close to or over 100 pts for the month, now it's down to 68

    good job scook!

i just like to hang around the top with the best. :)
well..i can't touch any of you guys gpu clocks..so that has me at a slight disadvantage there.
not sure why all the problems running aquakmark though

use throttle stop only for changing the tdp and tdc.
i never really looked into that much..as to how hard it was hitting...ill have to check that out to be sure.

yep, it's a day to day thing.
could be a cache thing like sam told me.

hummm, maybe i need to take a look at your machine again dr650. you only need one gpu.

Yea, I noticed that you couldn't raise your clocks higher, definately tried to take advantage of that. Even in Unigine I don't think OCing that high made much differance. I got the exact same score as you with a 930 core OC. 426.63pts

Probably is a cache thing. Sometimes I have to force recalculate. That the reason i have a bunch of achievements from the same day.

I re-ran Aquamark and was able to manage a almost 27K CPU score (4069MHz), but the GPU score didn't scale much. Only gained 2.5K. Once I get home I'll have to do some research and testing. My screenshot caught it when the multiplier downclocked to 28 and I didn't catch it.

The only score that matters is the TriScore based on the triangles calculation

dx9/11 are based off of how high you over clock your gpu and not so much cpu....
yep. those cpu/gpu scores in the middle mean nothing really. and can even be left blank at times, but you still get your fps score when done.

aquakmark is base on the cpu over clock as well...you may have something else taking from it....

DX9/DX11 were both run at 930/1200, and aquamark was benched on a diagnostic startup so maybe 16 processes running. Could it be possible that in starting up I'm excluding a much needed service?

Have you benched any of them yet?

Yea, definately possible, I will give it a shot after uninstalling, maybe tommorrow. I tried messing with the settings and setting them all to "Performance" and it didn't help. Tommorrow I'll take another shot at it, but then time to start packing [IMG]

I start tonight. But for many of them I most likely will not be up at 4.16 Ghz since the memory bandwidth is too important. Tonight I will do them at 3.33 then this weekend maybe I will throw it in the freezer and give 4.16 a go
