My replacement 4870 is tested and working so the benching will resume
It was definitely an R1 4870, had the same heatsink and the R1 vbios, good for dell getting it right! (although ironic because I commenced to flash the R2 vbios immediately haha)
And here are a couple Crysis benches at all stock for comparison with the GTX 285m's if that is still needed. I need to get this thing cold and see what I can do overclocked, hoping for around 40 fps![]()

Snapped this before I threw the 5870's back in the replacement computer. 100% stock.
finnally got my dispatch number for the 5870s, and I'm even getting my blu-re back too! Unfortunatly, it has to be an onsite replacement, fortunatly, I'll probally know the guy that's going to do it, or rather watch me do it. Glad you got your 4870 scook.Attached Files:

So that is a marginal difference. Given the fluctuations you will see between different drivers and different patch versions of the game, I would call them about even for Crysis.
-
here is my crysis scores, all stock.
by the way is there a way to see what's my pll to OC' my cpu???

You would need to open the computer up and find the chip on the motherboard, it is not a fun process at all
-
what chip??? can you point it out??
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/1046/1001244h.jpg -
that's my m17x.. and after looking on every ic connector the only one I was able to find that even looked like a PLL chip has no online documentation to build a profile off of. Use the 365BGLF G73 PLL with setfsb like everyone else, it works, there's little need to find the PLL chip except for a small bit of convience.
-
ya i know, lol. It was the only one that i found online crack open
.
and tanks for the advice. And by the way is there like a step by step guide online???. yes i'm a noob on this, i have never done it. -
Is there someone who has unlock Overdrive while flashing their vBios for have it in the CCC ?

Well I am officially no longer recommending the RBE+WinPhlash method for overclocking ATI cards.....it has now screwed me in XP and Windows 7.....
This would not be such a fuss for me except that since the heatsinks for the GPUs are not side-agnostic, it is a considerable PITA having to flip them
The cards are both working now....but not worth the stress - got an SSD for fast boots anyways
So I now recommend using ATIflash with a bootable USB stick. Still do the editing with RBE though -
yep...already had my share of that one before..
dos usb for all flashing now. -

Now I just need to figure out why AquaMark3 hates my 4870s
Always crashes after all the tests but before giving a score and when I start it I get a message saying I need to reset audio and visual settings -
aquamark does not like you guys, still...huh...
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If it would just work I would have my 75 cups and medals too
lol
At least this time I swapped the heatsinks with out chipping a gpu
-
just loaded it up and ran it off on the fly...got 224k
it's beyond me why it's giving you so much trouble.
any of your guys doing the maxxmem test? just to see how your ram is doing. -
What is the maximum voltage for a 5870M ?
I'm at 800/1100 at 1.05V on mines, i would like to know if i go to 800/1200 with the same voltage. You think it's ok ? -
You could try it chiefs. See it is stable. However a little bit more juice would be nice. You could try 1.10v or 1.15v.
A friend of mine is currently running this clock and voltage. 880/[email protected]
You could give it a go as well. Its been running fine and great for him.
Just play around a little with the clocks and test its stability. If it crashes or is not stable then lower it slightly.
Cheers.

Hi!
Just wanna know if you guys think the score on 3dmark06 is enough or if a there is something I might be able to do to up the score
Ran 3dmark06 on machine in sig got a score of 13986 aware of that the CPU is my bottleneck but will be upgraded to a 920xm in the future however not right now.
P.S Just recieved it and I must say one of the best systems
-
That score is just right chiefs. All good. Congrats on the new system oles
Cheers.
-
Man john, I just can't keep up, nice job in the 720M. I just got home and hopefully my system will get here in the next week or so. TI just got to call Dell to get a new GPU or entire system, then it might be time to do some benching. Till then i'll be watching from the sidelines
-
man, it's good to hear you made it home safely!!
asus actually got mine back kind of fast..i was a bit surprised..but they did have tim all over the place. cover/bottom/keyboard/palm rest. they also just put the screwdriver right through the sticker..lol. looks like the flashed my gpu back. and that's about it.
seems to be working ok for the most part now. -
Thanks John, lol, sounds like a kid was working on you system with TIM everywhere. Glad to hear you got it back though. So they just reflashed instead of replacing the card? I was actually looking at the G73 yesterday at BB. Came with a 740M. Not a bad system at all.
-
yeah, someone..thats for sure...lol
it looks to be the same exact card as far as i can tell..it's still working just like it did before the failed flash.
system isn't that bad at all. takes me all of 2 minutes to strip it to the motherboard now. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Even the M17x can be taken apart quickly once you know what you are doing. I can change GPUs around like it is nobodies business after those 2 bad flashes lol
CPU takes a little longer but nothing hard -
the problem with this was the screws.
i only have 4 in place. and that's to hold the lcd in place. (cpu and gpu excluded)
this thing is a snap together model.
say, now that we are here at the same time...what kind of maxxmem scores are you getting?? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
asking me about maxmemm john?
here is stock (1066 FSB)
here is 1333 FSB
I have seen as high as 9000 MB/s memory-read speed but usually in that area for 1333 FSB. Yay for the horrible FSB....
(since my memory is rated at 10666 MB/s for 1333)
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Man....That is why I do not like the nvidia chipset lol......I am not even confident that I am getting dual channel speeds
-
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
rub it in
lol
I envy your IMC! -
that's not why...it's because of the extra threads...ill show you in a sec.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well I will be interested to see what 4 threads does for you then.....because I am completely confident that the chipset/memory controller are what are killing me. Is why my CF numbers for 01/03/05 suck (My theory)
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Now that is interesting. So it looks like the CPU bandwidth is just too low to saturate the ram then? You still got me beat pretty good though as those are in line with my 1333 numbers and you are at 1066 lol
-
yeah it is.
gonna try to run 800 mhz right now. laptop may not boot...if you try to low or to high it wont boot. same goes with timings... did you know cas seven has like 9 settings of cas 7? -
-
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have not played with all the ram settings like you are John, mostly a noob when it comes to ram overclocking. I just want to have acceptable ram speed lol.
What I would like to see is someone with an M17 and a QX9300 run some of these tests since the PM45 is the Intel equivalent of my chipset. -
It's an old version because it's an old run
-
ahh, ok..gotcha
what over clocking?
im just trying to find the best place for my ram to run at, for a given bench.
7-7-7's look great in pictures, but are not always the best match for the bench your benching. plus it hiders the fsb over clocking.
i pretty much hit the same walls you did with yours. -
I'm a RAM noob as well. Was wondering if that was one of the reasons I couldn't go much higher with the CPU's and other various benches.
-
could be. the lower the ram starts out..the less likely it's in your way later. (cpuz for instance using setfsb)
before we had to let the bios make that call..not any more..you can change your ram to boot whatever you want it to boot at, but you can not boot higher than your machine is spec'd for. so no 1600 mhz like the dell workstation.
all this stuff is still a work in progress though. i still cant over clock ram as high as i could with the 620m though..167 qpi vs 159 on the 920m, but haven't really explored it fully either...not yet anyway.
and kingston value ram is just as good has hyper x ram. that is a fact.
side note:
someone got busted on over clocking and now his motherboard is not covered by warranty...lol (sorry for laughing, but that is jacked up!)
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...clevo-x7200-owners-lounge-53.html#post6832713 -
I read up on that story and the entire thing seems shady. MySN shouldn't have been selling pre-release systems to start with and the customer was a retard for buying it. However, the statement that his mainboard isn't covered because he OC'd it to 3.3 GHz doesn't make sense since overclocking is something Clevo advertises for the X7200. -
pretty much so...
damn!
200 bucks huh!
glad rjtech is right here.
20 bucks. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya that reseller as shady as hell.....guess he thought he was saving face by showing up and posting that since we are voicing our concern
I will have to play around with the ram stuff some now john, you have sparked my interest. Although I am pretty sure my numbers will always be pathetic compared to the IMC on the nehalem cpus
-
your doing better than me...i try to run 7's and hit turbo...system reboot...haha
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
what you mean john? You cannot do 1333 cas 7? That is in the Jedec on my ram....I did not even do anything to make it work
-
i can do 1333/7
the problem is
turbo adds 10 mhz to qpi/bclk
so 133 becomes 142
1333 becomes 1422 -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Gotcha. Don't feel bad, I cannot do 1400 Cas 7
-
exactly why im thinking that these ram sticks need to be cas 8. to give that little bit of over clocking head room...what do you think?
msn is on if your home.
