well, it looks like I've hit my maximum overclocks today, and they're rather dissapointing. It appears that my maximum points producing overclock on the processor is 1.8ghz (yes, a 66mhz overclock..) and 811/1099 on the radeons. Anything higher and the crysis numbers just drop off. On stock cpu clocks and overclocked on the GPUs, I can't even manage 28FPS(27.9 to be exact) :/ 5+FPS slower than with my GTX285s. Anyone have any ideas what's going on? PSU maintians ~ 180-205W during runs. Extra voltage does nothing, tempreatures are within norms, I can go much higher with 0 artifacting, it's just fps's tank.

Wasn't there an older BIOS revision that allowed the system to draw more power?

Somebody with an M17x will probably know which version.

Lozz, How are you doing your overclock? Adjusting the FSB? Doesn't that also affect memory and all of the system devices that use that clock for reference? While you might be able to overclock a CPU alone buy 1000 mhz, going just a few mhz over stock FSB is much more likely to cause problems with all the devices affected.

I wonder if this is also affecting your GPU overclock. It's probably not but you could back off your CPU overclock and try again just to try it out.

    I'm your man :)

For the R1 A02 is the best to bench/overclock with. It has a very high power threshold (at least 260W). The only drawback is A03 runs much better with the 4870s (or so I have heard, don't do anything but bench with my M17x anymore so hard to verify)

Unrelated, installed my Rampage II Extreme and the rest of my desktop into the 700d, this case is just awesome! All air cooled for the time being while I do some loop maintenance and redesign.

That specific run was with just the GPUs, it looks like I just worded it poorly. However, it's not the FSB adjustments, for one, I've never seen unlocked FSB overclocking cause a problem under +10mhz FSB in the decade I've been overclocking, and two, it happens when I'm just overclocking GPU's and keep the CPU stock. Right now I'm trying to find my maximum Furmark stable GPU overclock, vantage showed a small increase in points past 'the point of diminishing returns' in crysis, so it may just be crysis for some reason.

so I whipped out the killawatt.

100W difference between furmark multi-gpu and with it off @ 856/1204

50W difference between prime 95 8 thread and with it off.

110W Idle, 260W with both furmark and prime95 going.

got it up to 270W this time around, and it looks like it is just crysis.

Well it looks like I almost killed the chest freezer :(

Last time I used it I forgot to unplug the fan and it was left on running for a few weeks. Today was first time opening it since then and it was completely thawed (guess that fan was producing too much heat and causing the pump to overheat/cycle). Got it completely emptied out now and clean and it appears to be working but that will no longer be an option for extreme cooling of the laptop. On the upside.....the winter months are upon us so the front porch is again an option lol

I guess the upside is that most of what I have left to benchmark should not need that cooling anyways as the stuff I need to do with the GTX 280m's actually are hurt by the TS multi boosting due to my memory bandwidth problems when I overclock that way

Just thought I would check in haha and hope everyone (in the US) had a good Thanksgiving!

Sure, no prob. Some days I spend more time benchmarking that playing :D

My vantage was about 600 more with the same 5% BIOS OC. I may have been running throttlestop though and if I was that could be the reason mine was higher.

My non overclocked vantage was 100 lower than yours, and 2006 was 1000 lower.

I am building a spreadsheet of comparisions in many games, between single GPU and crossfire, plus once I get my third screen up and running I will do eyefinity with single gpu and crossfire. That way I'm not guessing which game runs better in which mode and having to figure it out again each time.

His score is normal, yours is actually lower than his (you quoted his vantage, but then you gave your 2006 score) and if you really are overclocked it should be higher. Around the 22000 mark. Maybe your OC is too much and your cards are downclocking?

;) I can take the CPU higher, but at this point, didn't see much need for it. Can't pull out all the aces at one time. Just enough to put me on top lol. Can't wait for a little competition, been quite a while.

Yea, I've seen that, It's a heck of an overclock. I'm using an 920XM (ES) my second 920XM Chip. Not much point in pushing further (which I've done on both CPU/GPU) at the moment. 3DMark06 is so CPU dependant, a higher GPU OC will make no differance. All CPU based.

I'd be good with it, but I ran the M15x Benchmark thread, and when it takes off, and benching is popular, it's a lot of work. Especially if you can't get on everyday to update. I've turned to HWbot.org for comepeting in similiar components, such as individual CPU's, GPU's ect.

If it was made so that it was like the M15x Bench hread, well than, I have plenty of lower CPU's to bench, 520M, 540M, 720M ect.

lol very true, and if I find a great deal, I just might. It helps that I found that the 540M is TDP/TDC unlocked. So that helps a lot. I ran wpime for hwbot.org and put up some great results after finding that out. Helps a ton, and in 3DMark06, where the CPU is heavily favored, it should put me way up there.

Oh, and I can bench the 540M stable at just over 4GHz. ;)

yeah i was able to get to 4.12ghz with some heavy cooling. i was able to do some good things with it. was an awesome cpu, my 640m was too, wish i had it back, without cooling i got a 4.17 on my first attempt. damn this 740, if i knew the TDP was locked i never would have got it.

    Hi Guys,

Here is my 3DMark11 score on stock OC of 5% (75mv and 1.5v).

I ran this on my everyday system with the majority of services still running in the background just to give ppl an idea of a fairly standard score. ;)

Heck I couldn't even get it to complete, kept coming up with an error in the middle of tests. I googled it and others were having the same problem. Tried disabling crossfire and got the same thing.

Did you have to do anything special to get it to run?

Hey all.. I just tried 3dmark11 and got 4370p.. Gpu flashed to 870/ 1100/ 1.15v. But i have a question about overclocking the gpu with programs. Ive tried Amd tool but it gives me kernel not found. Rivatuner starts but i dont have any clocks in there. Today i tried Ati tray tools (released 2010-05). Installs it fine, starts and give my system bsod. Flashed my gpu back to original and it still gives me bsod. And the text that comes when i restart is something with UAC and low level something.. So what does this meen. It seems that some people can overclock with riva and Amd gpu tool so whats up with my system.. Thanx

    Hello guys!
I've just received my m17x, this amazing machine.. And first of all I've downloaded some benchmarks and did the test. Honestly, I've expected some higher scores, maybe these results are ok for my configuration, which is:
    i7 840 QM, 8Gb RAM, Dual HD 5870 Crossfire..

I attach the screenshots with results, and very appreciate any comments, ideas and advises :)

Magneto, do not use the 'Download Manager'. Clear your browser cookies and then instead of clicking on 'download manager', select 'download via browser' - you will then be able to download the BIOS/driver update you selected.

For BIOS related posts, please use this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ios-a09-discussion-thread.html?highlight=BIOS.

For driver related questions, use the http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...ul-m17xr2-edition-owners-lounge-part-3-a.html or,

This thread is for M17x benchmark posts only.
