One of the other departments borrowed the R3, I'll try and mess with the overclock settings tonight if we get it back by then.

We should be getting a shipment of spares for it, so maybe I can try different video, proc, ect.

Man I'm so close to 5500 points in 3dmark11! All running on air with stock cooling except my heat sinks all have the retention modification with MX-4 paste. Temps are great for the CPU/GPU and neither spins up to full throttle even with the system highly overclocked. I need to raise my CPU physics score another 300 points.

    Edit:

OMG..now my R2 is just messing with me. Look what I just got: Result

Hehe damn straight! Let's see R3 ever touch that score. BTW I have a good feeling about 6970M Xfire working in the R2.

Joker, you cannot compare the R3 anymore to the R2 as you said it yourself, the replacement of the R2 is the M18X. I am sure the M18X will be able to reach that score... :D :D :D

Now that being said, I am confident that if you had an R3 with 2920XM and 6970M you could get close to that score as you are quite good with tweaking laptops for extreme benchmark results... :)

For 3DMark06, I would start by overclocking the CPU as that will improve your FPS in the benchmark since it is a CPU dependant benchmark.

Is there any 3DMark Vantage run for R3's? Either with 460m or 6870m. I would like to see the pure GPU score without the CPU influencing the final score too much (as per 3d mark 06....)

True, I like to test a bunch of the settings though. I'll have to give it a few runs. Mostly it's just a pain to remove the keyboard and swap my benching drive in. I should just do it though.

Yesterday while re-imaging my RAID setup I used one of the X25-M drives to install my benching image. I did a few tweaks to it (JBB Tweaks) since I run it off the Intel X25-V 40GB drive. Right now I'm going to secure erase the X25-V and re-image it. Then I think I'll run a few benches on it :p

Hahaha, thats funny, because when I was in Iraq, I forgot my fiance's birthday, I remembered in the AM, called in the evening and totally forgot. She reminded me, not too happy, but security erase? No prob, sudo su, (hot swap) hdparm --user-master u --security-set-pass Eins /dev/sda, time hdparm --user-master u --security-erase Eins /dev/sda :D :D :D :p

Ran 3DMark11 Real quick, pretty much at stock so I got something like 2K, so it might have been on a single GPU as well, didn't even watch it, but couldn't get Rivatuner working so that threw a damper on things. Didn't try very much cuz I was locking up at clocks of 935/1250. Might try again tommorow.

2K only? Sounds like a single gpu indeed but with those clocks you should get much more, do you use the 11.1 drivers?

You just use the default settings that pop up when you run either of them. In Vantage though, you should turn off the six extra benchmarks. They don't count toward your overall score, and they make the benchmark take a bit longer too.

What are your guys thoughts about the new Vantage 2k11? Will it be a suitable testing tool to replace the previous vantage scores, or shall we leave it the way it is for the forseeable future?

I saw leave it, since not everyone is going to be DX11 Capable, but add a seperate catagory for 3DMark11. Just my two cents.

True, but not everyone runs the other benches and they are so high as it stands, I doubt you need much more work on those.

3DMark 11 will replace Vantage over time, it just needs an acceptance period. Vantage was not used widely over 06 until like late 2008 anyways. There is always overlap when a new bench comes out. I just would love to see people abandon 06!

It is just 11, not vantage. And there do not need to be rules? Just run it at stock. The performance setting uses 720p so all machines should be able to do that. Extreme uses 1080p I think. Need to look at it more on my desktop, have only ran a couple times

    Hi peeps,

I just wanted to check in and ask if you guys can check my settings on SetFSB.

I just wanted to double check that I have maxed out all the settings that I can whilst using it to OC my CPU. *(740QM)*

The settings I have changed and am using currently are 29,20,98,39
I have tried the last setting on "40" but it KO's every time.

I am also considering to finally get a XM cpu in the near future. Perhaps from Joker's recommended seller.

I just wanted to make sure that I haven't missed any other settings that I can set or change.

    Thanks Peeps!

    Cheers. :)

    Hi,

Could someone help. I have been experiencing a strange issue where the system just lags and the alienware head starts to flash like it is charging then goes back to normally.

I completed the core parking fix as 6 of the 8 cores stated they where parked. This was ok then about 2 hours later it did the same thing again and when i tried running black ops muiltplayer it took about 10 mins to load.

I used windows restore went back to the previous day and everythin was working again. I did a BIOS upgrade from A08 to A10 then downgraded to A09 as each time i logged of i got the awaiting program to finish window for the shutdown sound etc.

I have completed diagnostic checks and drained battery to 7%, the stranged thing was when i connected the power connector it took a minute or so to changed onscreen and the alienware flashing head before it started charging. I have also checked power adapter which i have two of and says 240, this is also confirmed in the BIOS. Any idea's.
