Should I bother running all the older versions of 3Dmark? And Aquamark? (not sure what that even is) lol

well...depends on how this gen of benchmarking wants to go..

me..i wish i had ran them all!! but back then i was singing the same tune
"it's out dated" "why bench this and that" "im to broke to spend a few dollars on software - even though i spent 4 grand on a laptop"

    why?

because now they all mean something...sure..someone can have the fastest vantage and 3dmark06, but can get wiped out by the other benchmarks...
because i didn't run those older ones..people can come in and get free trophies & points for nothing...hahaha

this is benching, so it all counts! (personal opinion only)

just download them and run the full bench, then submit it to your orb account...it should record it and your golden.(if so, then you dont have to pay)
    but
you have to run the whole entire thing..potentially getting a lower score, because of some fluke of nature..then you'll be mad...lol... because for gpu only test..you can run the cpu higher than normal, but if you have to run a full test...the gpus may pass while the cpu crashes. and on that run...you didn't even have to run cpu test. (only a potential problem)

better go post the 3870's as well..they have a section for that as well... :)

wait...all the mobile cpus are on there as well.

so you could use that for ranking and use nbd for gaming benchmarks, and the laptop world would be covered.

Just for the M17x R1 NV GPU owners... Resident Evil 5 Benchmark

Driver used: 186.82 without nHancer - SLI Profile from 196.34 BETA Driver

    All clocks @ stock
    Vert Sync Off
    Framerate Unlocked
    AA 2x
    Motion Blur Off
    All other settings @ High/Max

    AVG FPS: 85

I know there are better results, just wanted to share the 186.82 driver results. ;)

So the secret... LOL This is just plain lame. When installing RE5, the installer creates a config file located in the user's Documents Folder. Inside is a 'config' file. Opening the file shows "SLI=OFF". Well, hello? Changed to: SLI=ON and FPS drop in Area 3 and 4 is eliminated. Pfft. Capcom.

Anyway, Kade Storm asked me to look into the driver and profiles and after trying countless changes I came across the config file. What this tells me is that even though the SLI bar when active is moving in sync, it does not mean SLI is always active or performing at its peak. Either that or RE5 is just poorly coded.

So this mystery is finally resolved. I know it was hitting a few of the core bench runners in the Part 1 and 2 thread.

EDIT - @Kade, you deserve the rep - I never would have looked into this. Rep'd you.

Ok, talking about games. I am running into a new issue with my M17X R1.

Far Cry 2 now has regular frame rate drops about every 20 seconds or so. I've tried to turn off all un-necessary apps including WIFI and network cards to avoid the latency issue but it continues.

I guess that's a clear case of stuttering.

I am using the ATI now in crossfire. I've tried both with crossfire ON and OFF.

I am not sure what to do.

for my i witness that with my ocz whitebook and i believe it was microstuttering. my 9800m gtx didn't do that and also my 280m gtx sli or my 4870x2 didn't do it.

try uninstall the smu bus driver from the chipset and see what happens. i found that that solved my problems.

Does not change anything. Not sure what to do.

It makes the game impossible to play.

On the other hand on WOW, the ATI offer a much higher FPS than the Nvidia. I am happy on that game and no stutter.

Crysis has stutter to which was not there on the Nvidia. I don't get it.

i found that Crysis pushes the GPUs ALOT harder than Vantage or any other test I did, so it needed a much lower overclock to be stable, also ANY overvolting of the GPUs would make Crysis stutter, due to the higher power draw it puts on the cards

Dude, that avatar is sick. Color looks really sharp. To bad I'm looking at it from my cheap work computer but still. I'm definately getting the RGB. I think my system finally made it back to dell. Here is the email I got

"I checked with our team on this
issue, they said that the package could have been received however
didn't guarantee on it. It's just that the manufacturing department
shows received in the notes but didn't specify as to what is being
received. I hope it would be the system which is received back at Dell,
I will monitor this issue and will let you know once there's an update
or when the credit is processed back"

I'm hoping they got it anyhow. Still looks iffy. I'm just waiting on the fund transfer, then I'll order the R2 as soon as 5870's are in :D with RGB. And hopefully blu-ray

Anyone notice when they use catalyst 9.12(hotfix) drivers that the ORB results browser says
"Please note that this result has been produced using display drivers which have not been validated or approved by Futuremark and will not be visible on default result search on the ORB or on the Hall of Fame. "

People who have had a similar issue first installed the OEM drivers and then put on the CAT 9.12 drivers.

I've had the machine for a couple of months, been working fine..installed 9.12 Hotfix a couple of weeks ago.. and crossfire was still working, but now that I tried to install the regular catalyst 9.12, it doesnt install one of the card's drivers successfully. Another thing, when 9.12Hotfix was installed, how come gpuz still only showed 9.7?

I had all those same driver issues Rolex, ended up completely wiping out any ATI drivers on mysystem, driver cleaning it all, then loading the dell drivers then loading 9.12 over those. That fixed it for me (and took a few hours to figure out)

on if it was really broke in the first place....might ahve some sort of internal thermal shut down mode that you found.... you still have time to replace...so i guess you still have time to find out. :)

It sits on a Cryo and as long as the temps stay down I have no problems

When outside I run it at 3.33 (havent played around with multi higher than 10x yet, that is next as I need a good CPU-Z validation)

The OEM cpus seem to oc much better than the ES ones

I am able to boot at higher but not at room temperature, anything above 3.33 was giving me BSOD during windows bootup with Win 7. Tried different multiplier/fsb combinations to no avail

I am going to make an XP drive and play around on that some this weekend, hopefully that will allow me to go higher.

Heat will always be a factor. It reduces the electrons vibrations thus reducing impedance on the electricity resulting in a better over clock and better stability overall. Its all at a microscopic level this all takes place. Just think of this as lubrication for the speed :D
