    3.14 ghz.
it seems my thermal paste needs to take a few thermal cycles to achieve good cooling as i got bsod on speeds that i could use before right?

the other piece next to the cpu that the heatsink is attach to. leave that alone and just leave the pad on it.

you mean the one that is attached on the intergrated graphics? i didnt do anything on it. if you mean the piece that was at the sides of the cpu (around the cpu cores) then i am afraid i removed it. it didnt have any effect on cooling i think.. i re-opened it and just have put more thermal paste and my temps are reduced by 2 C more. there is negative effect if two different thermal pastes exist. i ll see in a few days if it was my stupidity to change the thermal paste.

my temps are at 44-45 at idle hows yours?

I hope you didn't put AS-5 on it as it can bleed and damage the whole system. Use MX-3 or IC-7, something non-bleeding and non-conductive.
Also, with MX-3 you should be able to lower the MCP temps by 10-idle and up to 20c @load.
With the cooler pad the difference will be less noticeable.

I use OCZ Freeze and have been happy with that so far

I have it on my CPU, northbridge is the stock pad, and the 4870s are (shamefully) still the stock stuff, have not opened them up yet

John, I would expect overclocked 4870m CF to be on par with a desktop 5870....The architectures are about the same and both are 1600 cores

What is very interesting to note though....is your 5870 is 256 bit GDDR5 while the 4870m's are 256 bit GDDR3....seems that game is NOT a memory bandwidth dependent game at all

im using half of a 5970 so it's slightly less than a true 5870.

on par is a good thing....but then your over clocked...over clock a 5870 and what do you have...a very big difference in scoring... :)

    over clocking means everything...hahaha

benching a x1050 card right now....damn, this card is low...lol

what did you get for aquamark??

    where is don at?
don, can we do a few AA/AF runs on some games

i'm making a driver. in terms of getting ccc to work without dell's drivers.
i'm also trying to look for the scaling options to work....
i'm trying to get the crossfire tab to show up in ccc

i am about 80 percent done. i didn't forget about the crysis run and i will do them but when i was trying to install a driver to test it started to bother me.

i installed 10.1 and then i ran 06 which i showed you with one card. then i looked for the crossfire tab and it wasn't there and for me to put in on there was way to much work just for that. so i am working on a driver so it is an easy install for everyone.

i just dont have the settings for scaling if someone cares for that they can pm me it and i can put it in also.

i just have to clean install the drivers and make sure everything works before i post it up. give me alittle bit.

I installed 9.12 Hotfix a little while back, worked good, then just to please ORB I tried to install the Legit version of 9.12..and when I ran a benchmark straight after I had LOW numbers..
I looked in device manager and found one of the cards wasn't being recognised, so obviously the crossfire option wasn't available, so I went ahead and installed just the standard dell driver which brought crossfire back (which by the way I know is not the problem with yours):

So I just ran it with that now, to get 10,000+ on all three.

I'm still waiting for someone to enlighten me as to why when I installed Catalyst 9.12 Hotfix, my GPUZ never showed anything other then what it shows now. Always 9.7, no matter how many drivers I've experimented with.

Edit: I assume those options are there to set reduced parameters rather then go past the official limits set by Intel right?

well, that pretty much says it all!

    great job once again ren.

    now

see how many benchmarks you can actually get through at that speed...
as they crash...slowly down clock backward.
for example...run vantage cpu portion only...

here is stock out the box as in. cpu at 2.93ghz and fresh driver install. this is my gaming os and there is no tweaks what so ever. meaning that ccc is set to balance(should of set it to high quality) ram is stock. cpu is stable at 2.93ghz. so i like to refer it as out of the box performance.
this are all maxed out with no aa. i have work in 20min.(9am-10pm :() :(
but tonight with these same settings. i will do the same runs 8aa and single card runs and tomorrow i'll show ya'll some real numbers with my benchmarking os. :)

Man I'm really getting itchy for the R2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but by overclocking, your disabling the turbo, so your manually increasing the multiplier on each core, which essentially has all 4 cores/ 8 threads at 4.2GHz? I've never played around with the i-core CPU's. So this changes the fact that in turbo only half the cores increase in freq. Now you can control the cores if I've done my homework.

Rengsey, are you increasing the voltage to hit 4.2GHz?

    @cjnicosia,

I returned it because the R-2 came out right after I got my M17X. I'm waiting for the refund, then ordering the R2 when the 5870 GPUs come out. They cut me some slack on the timeline since I'm out in the desert. There was nothing wrong with it either. I called them 26 days after returning it and they were understanding.
    --
EDIT: On a side note I upped my highs on Vantage and 3DMark06 on my Inspiron 1720. :D
    Vantage: P1410 to P1457
    3DMark06 4280 to 4366

Believe it or not thats a big deal, not a bad overclock for a 256MB 8600M GT, DDR2, 128bit.

    GPU clock: 475MHz to 589MHz
    Memory: 400MHz to 519MHz
    Shader: 950MHz to 1178MHz

5870's can't get here fast enough

My vantage submission with the new bios + 5% bios OC on the CPU:

I'd go higher on the CPU but I'm restricted by heat. The CPU reaches 83-84C on the first 2 cores. Once my MX-3 comes in, I'll be able to put out some better numbers.

    P.S. no flickering ;)

You can go either way. If you want to go past the Intel limits just set it above it. I gave it 125W head room. lol! Too bad I only have 150W PS. Highest I've seen the CPU hit was 85W.

    what do ya mean...not motivated??

    hold'em up speed racer...lol

    nah.

    it all counts
    total over all
    gpu score
    cpu score

    they each have their places

in the end, it's the over all score with gpus in the 14k and up range as you learn your laptop limits.

all this means is the same tactics used for the r1 are different to get the same or better results using r2... :)

time to figure out what that is.

    edit:
    ok, now i understand don.
