Impressive Mandrake welldone. But looking at those vantage scores and 06 and fps its nothing amazing. 4870 still out class it in x-fire. X-Fire 5870 will be way better. But yet so will a 256bit memory bus. I think when the 5870 do become available for the m17x i will save for the 5870 256bit version and not the 128bit bus.

Dual cards of course will out score it.

    I haven't seen any specs for a 256bit 5870.

Yea true but look at it like this. Remember the m1730 launch. We had 8700M GT @ 128bit bus, then followed the 8800M GTX @ 256bit bus. Im sure before long the 5870 will become 256bit bus.

these 5870ms are already doing fairly well for just being out.8700 gpu vantage scores 16k total 3dmrk scores...and this is just the first week.
i see 17k gpu scores with dual setups and plenty of fine tunning. :)

Its clear tho that Ati is the new leader at the moment. Nvidia need to really pull something out of the hat or else there going to find it a rough ride soon while they have had the sail on the water as to speak.

Im sure with a X-Fire 5870 and 920xm setup were going to be looking at 25000 on 3dmark06 i reckon or slighltly more. I know rengsey hit 21098 on his new rig.

A lot of the folks over in the Asus thread over-sell this system. It is a nice system for the price and worth it but the build quality and RGBLED of the M17x are above and beyond what this system offers.

welcome to the world of "my computer is better because i spent less"

    :D

exactly what i use to say.
computer enthusiast look at it quite a bit differently than the average consumer trying to save a buck on a "best bang for buck" thing.

I can only guess that it is one of the results of the power issues with the M17x.

it's looking like AW single core mode/ turbo...but im not for certain.

if rengsey can set all 4 of his cores at even 3.3 ghz and run this again. we should have a definite answer. as to the cores in use.

look like i might have to eat my words as to how many cores are in use...we shall see.

you we're shutting down threads in reality.... 2 threads to a core.
probably should have been 0/1 but it's hard to say which two threads are working on which cores...

since we can't turn HT off in windows.

i just did a test and i dropped about 1300 points in 3dmark..

    wow..stutter/stop/slow down...lol
running a test on vantage now.

    edit:
    ok drake

it looks like you disable the last 2 cpus ... 6/7

and that's what it is...(specualtion of course) i dropped to right where the AW is from where your at.

Wow a lot of reading to catch up, but from the looks of it, if Dell can get the power issue straight, seeing that the CPU posts much better scores on the G73, and the 5870's in crossfire come out, we're looking at some big numbers. Could there be another explanation for the higher G73 CPU scores versus the R2?

Just appears that the G73 is much more CPU efficient than the R2.

as soon as rengsey runs his again...we should have a good idea.
from testing so far...it would seem that the scores are based off of 3 cores and not 4.(speculation of course)
