I could do 1100 memory ok inside and 3.30 on the CPU
But the vantage run I put up was done outside this morning - was high 20s out there (not too bad, I was still wearing shorts lol)
Outside I could do 3.33 fine on the CPU, may try higher later. The ATI GPUs were doing awesome at 650/1050 at room temperature, but going to 665 was iffy on core, mostly ok inside. Going over 1100 on ram artifacts alot unless you get it colder.
I do not see the ATI cores going past 675 though, no matter the temperature. Might be due to voltage limitation (I had mine upped to 1.15 V) but 670/675 was borderline unstable - some runs finished, some didn't
I have done minimal tweaking though in the driver and software, so I have room for improvement on the GPU score

Core and shader clocks are just fine at those levels, because damn, you've got 800 shaders per card!
So what's the highest recorded core, shader, and memory for the 280m? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
the 9800m gtx was 690/1715/970. So it's not to far off that.
I will se tonight in warm conditions. Mines was 675/1675/1080 for my runs. I could go up to 685/1688/1080... But there was no performance difference. I'll do more testing. I haven't felt the urge to do anything with my dpc and dell put on 196.81 beta I believe and I don't fell like putting on dox 182.46 on it. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Highest I ran my 280s was 680 Core, 1725 shader, 1080 memory
You might have been able to go a little further, but it would be pretty unstable -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
182.46 was much less tolerant to overclocks compared to the 186 series - it also made the cards draw more power (but also scores well in Vantage)
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes. That is way I haven't use newer drivers because those drivers scored higher with lesser clocks.
-
So 14k vantage is the max these things can squeeze out? I was hoping for about 15-16k, guess that will be the 5870 territory.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
coming from 11k. That's very good. Well see what more people can do with them this week with core 2 and core i7....
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I think before all is said and done, we will see a P14500 score from the 4870s (either CPU)
To give you a frame of reference....
My desktop with an i7 920 and GTX 275 SLI gets right at P20000 stock
These are in a different league in hardware and performance -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
really. Wow. 20,000 on the gpu?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
higher
This is with whatever driver I had at the time and 0 tweaks - not a competitive run at all, just to see where it stands. So this could easily go higher
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=1205089 -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
why would you want to get rid of that. Your desktop is almost twice as fast as the m17x?
-
because desktops are antiquated tech.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
well, yes it is fast, but it is not mobile.
However, I decided to keep it and am now putting a watercooling loop into it -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
understandable. That's why I don't have a power house desktop because I am out alot andi like lying down, turning around and other stuff that a desktop can't do.
ex: sleey0's avitar should make sense. -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
And Scook, your 280 clocks are pretty high, but what was your highest for normal indoor use? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
no stable for long term use. I would say 600/1500/900 from 500/1250/800. I learned from my hp not to overclock when gaming.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I'm going on a crysis frenzy tonight I'm going everything maxed. Very high, very high 4aa, high, high 4aa. Stocked and overclocked.
it's in a to be later on if someone wants to start posting up now or later. -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
Seriously? Magnus72 has been running his 8800s at 625/1550/925 for over a year-and-a-half. No issues. Of course, he also keeps the back of the system raised a bit, while regularly cleaning the vents.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I don't game when overclocking so I can't tell you the right amount. My single 9800m gtx maxed out and played every game I threw at it maxed so I didn't have to overclock. Of course you can go higher.
-
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
You have a point there, but I am sure you can understand that with games like Crysis, we sometimes require a bit of config tweaking along with overclocking.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
for my 9800m gtx I got 13fps on very high and 15fps overclocked. I don't remember high but I believe it was 20-23fps
-
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
And with my configuration, the game runs in DX9, but exudes most of the DX10 effects and a lower draw distance. I get over 30 FPS for the average rating, and with a bit of an overclock, I get even better results. (This is all with the 8800m GTX SLi.)
I am eager to see some more results with the 280s and the 4870s running these custom configurations. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I can't find my fc2 dvd.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
looks like i wont be running crysis. i did very high at church and got 30.65 on hery high stock gpu and i just stepped in the house and i'm getting one fps.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Stock gpu overclocked cpu
-
reboot the lappy and get back at it
always with the jokes...lol -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i dont have it anymore.
i only did 3 runs
i'll post the other two.
stock gpu overclocked cpu
both overclocked
-
Well the 13.8K Vantage CPU didn't last very long.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
who is that?
-
Julylogic, he's in Honk Kong and has his R2 already. That's a stock run.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i just saw it. anyone has a vantage key for him. it seems that he needs to hop over here.
-
a whole bunch of people have vantage keys...they just dont want to share them. can't speak for myself since i gave mine out bout 20 times already.
-
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes i know you and ichime have done alot in that regard.
-
edit:
hell.. i dont even use a case anymore..board is just sitting on the desk -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i'm knocking on 30. lol. jk.
well then vantage is a joke then to you right?
when are you going to crossfire that 5970? -
but dual 5870's are better...so i may sell this card and get two of those or keep this and get two 5870s and run quad/fire that way.
and nah don...not a joke at all, but what i do want to see is this thing turn into something big for laptops...and since no one else is doing it. now is the right time to get it started....but you have to have more than just vantage/3dmark06 and a hand full of games. because now the whole system is becoming benchable...back when we started...it wasn't like that, but now...it's really on for lappy's. nbd is a great start...it can be the next hwbot for laptops. -
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yes. the gpu was stock and the cpu was overclocked. from 2.93 i got 30.65 and i went to 3.087 and got an extra frame.
-
Kade Storm The Devil's Advocate
Yeah, but your CPU overclock will hardly make that much of an impact on the GPU tests. Trust me, I know. It'll be about 1-2 FPS difference, at best. This establishes one thing: With the right drivers, your 280s can push some very high polygon counts, which is why I am most interested in this particular benchmark amongst a few others.
If you're having FPS issues, maybe you should do one of those hard resets. I had the same problem and ended up formatting my system for nothing. It's got something to do with hardware power issues. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That is one hell of a CPU score!
Guess the i7's can hold their own afterall!
And in other news, got the replacement SSD in today and using it now, god it feels good having that back in here! -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
do a single 4870 stock and overclocked in vantage and 06.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
How about I do a full system OC'd run in Crysis for you instead! (only done stock so far)
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
ok. and i dont remember your stock one. i'll pull up my old overclock meanwhile.
just checked and that's the highest overclocked i did on crysis. -

-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
still uninstalled
I am just reinstalling Crysis now -
I know not many of you will be interested in this, especially now with the i7's set to take the stage..
But its a cpu clock and 3dmark score I set out to conquer a long time ago with the Q9000 (to match the clock of the stock QX9300)
..so that I could see what difference the extra 6mb L2 cache and double the transistors makes..(if any)
My original stock Q9000 06 Score:
Overclocked Q9000 Score:
I think theres plenty scope to go [email protected] here .. very stable..and look at the FSB..
All in all the difference from what I know amounts to approximately 500
3dmarks..
Not bad for a Q9000..and ofcourse, if anyone feels so obliged, a screen shot of a stock QX9300 + 4870CF would complete this picture.
