    Of course.

Big point of weridness for Cryostasis. Benefits most from a very fast single core. I think an I7 system would really make this performance-hogging P.O.S. run properly.

could be any of the above or have to with registering your product or a promotional thing. could come with a cd or a code for a download. they we're doing it with new motherboards and someone said that they even got one with a new laptop. you can also find free vantage key give aways. where you can get a key in under 24 hours.

    what kind of cpu test?
other than 3dmark06 and vantage..i do remember cinebench though.

    side note:
testing a nforce board out now. which pretty much matches the board in the m17x...and just like there...no damn voltage control!...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

    yup

I've been trying to get 3DMark06 to run stable at 3.7Ghz. Just over 6100 is my highest cpu score in that benchmark.

load up xp and run it...should be like 8k there and more stable...xp doesn't need as much voltage for 3dmark06

side note...where do you crash at?

about 3-4 seconds into the first cpu test.

I can try XP over the weekend. I don't know if I'll find a 5870 driver for it.

not sure about that kade...i ran it over clocked and stock and if i remember correctly...no change....but when i get my system back up and running...ill check it out.
if you cant up the voltage..can it be lowered like one notch?
if it gives you a code...what is the code?
try it in super high quality mode vs performance
and last but not least..start high and work your way backward. so if 3.7 isn't working...3.695..(if system allows for this.)
im sure we can find you a driver.(speculation of course)

My Crossfire 4870 setup gets the same score in 3dmark06 that I got with my 280m SLI, but the game results are horrible.

I am just playing around with drivers atm to see if I can get this sorted out. There is no way that RADEONs are this bad.

NFS: Shift is 41fps vs 62fps
    Mass Effect 2 is 20fps vs 74
    Dirt 2 is 17 fps vs 37

Crossfire logo is displayed so it seems to be enabled. CCC says it is on.

    Yikes!

Why would older drivers be better?

ME2, FC2, Shift frame rates are all worse than my out of the box Nvidia scores.

Dirt 2 looks like it might be better but it crashes just before starting a race (v-sync on or off).

I'll roll back to the 9.12 set to see if it helps. But 10.3 works without mobility mod and has the latest XF profiles.

And I get a high pitching screeching noise from my right 4870 it isn't super loud, but you can definitely hear it when a game starts.

you dont need to run the whole thing, just the 1st cpu test. if you pass that one...then it's cpu bench able.
but vantage usually uses far more voltage to run stable than 06....but you never know..

10.3 was working fine (except the low scores) so I clean uninstalled it and tried the Dell driver. It installs fine but on restart the driver does not load. In the device manager each card has a yellow exclamation and

'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.'

    any ideas?

i had that happen to me. you need to go to device drivers and uninstall the 4870s and select delete drivers. go into your c: drive and delete your dell folder (you won't need the folder) then restart. (for windows 7 only)windows will automatically install 4870 drivers. if not on windows 7 just restart and install dell drivers. it should work.

Thanks dude, I'll give that a try!

[update] That did not work for me. Even after a driver sweeper uninstall device manager showed the two 4870s. I uninstalled them and deleted the driver as you suggested and then let Windows find the driver (Std VGA). I could then install the Cats.

So after installing the Dell Cat and 9.12 hot fix, Dirt 2 still freezes, Crysis Warhead freezes the computer, and the games that work are all slower than the dual 280m cards.

This is a lot more trouble than I had with nvidia, and I tried every new driver that came out with those. Apart from different performance levels, I never had any in-game lockups or crashes. I am seeing a lot more trouble and no benefit right now.

Dark, this exact thing happened to me (but my 11K run was on the low end, not sure mine is lagging the others by like 400 for some reason). First try disabling Stealth mode by pressing the button and answering no. This might be all you need to do.

If your fans are not coming on it is likely you are stuck in Stealth mode. Try making a new power profile with everything at full tilt even if you disconnect the power. If this still doesn't do it what I did was disable the two video cards, pulled the battery, put it back in after pressing the power button to ensure full discharge, then let the system come up. I had to re-detect the cards and changed to a custom power profile to be sure. This seems to work so far but I am testing unplugging the cable, etc.

You are most certainly on one card; if anyone knows a cleaner way to clear Stealth mode please speak up!

@Lewdvig: We're you running in SLI or single card card under Nvidia? This is my first dual card setup and like I have always heard, it's nice but glitchy...

EDIT: His Nvidia was in SLI mode.

I went from 280m sli (problem free except for dpc) to 4870 crossfire (no joy after to nights of tweaking).

So far the 4870 setup is big disappointment. I'll respawn tonight to see if that helps.

Either there are some vestiges of old nvidia driver stuff on the computer impctinf my experience or dual 4870 cards are simply not as fast as two 280s.

Wow that's beyond suck... when I had (have) Crossfire not activating right, AND the system is in Stealth I got some really low frame rates... dumb question, but is your turbo mode on in the BIOS still?

He has an R1 so no turbo mode. Made sure stealth mode is off (not meant to imply anything - but it happens)?

For what it is worth, I driver sweeped all the nvidia GPU drivers before I loaded my ATI drivers up

My bad, I was thinking he had just gotten a new M17x with the 4870s.

Out of curiosity, what tool do you prefer for driver sweeps? Mine has a set of Nvidia's out there for some reason that I should probably get rid of...

(all Nvidia software uninstalled, booted into safe, ran driver sweeper, restarted, installed chipset driver w/o storage mgr, turned off, installed 4870 cards, booted, installed Dell driver, installed 10.3 beta over top)

    My ATI driver install process:
    Uninstall using Cat Install Manager
    Boot into safe mode
    Run Driver Sweeper
Reboot, make sure device mgr shows standard VGA adapaters (if not, fix it)
    Restart
    Install Dell Cat
    Restart
    Install Hotfix
    Install CF profile
    Test

With the 9.12 Cats I managed to push Shift to 48fps. Mass Effect 2 to 58fps. I still can't get Dirt 2 running though.

There are quite a few games that I test with so it will take me a while to get setup.

Plus I owe Stamastix a few tests too.

It took most of my free time last night, but I restored the M17x (I only have 5 Mbps Internet so Windows Update is time consuming). On a clean install Dirt 2 works. Have not tried Warhead yet.

I am doing benches using about 10 games on 8.6, 9.12 and 10.3 vs 280m SLI on 195.62.

Half way through the 8.6 test, so the 9.12 and 10.3 should be eye openers.

my ati's makes my 280m a joke. although what might be happening is you are locked at 2d clocks and not going to 3d clocks. try using gpu-z and using the sensors and log them. then after playing see if they go in 3dclocks.

quadzilla found this problem where it was only ran in 3d clocks in popular games like crysis, fc2, dmc4 etc.....

but games like prototype, ninja blade, spiderman was locked in 2d mode.

it happened on my regular os but my benchmarking os wasn't affected.

My scores for Dirt 2 and Batman Arkham Asylum are higher than what you posted in that link. Obviously it's not apples to apples since I've got a 920xm but the difference is pretty remarkable. In batman I get >20 fps more for min. fps which makes a huge difference when gaming.
