I was looking through Dell's ftp site for the old bios and I saw the the M11x bios was called M11R1....guess that means they're will be a R2.

I tried going there, I did not find the old Bios, just the A02. If it is going to be trouble, forget about it. I just wanted to see the performance difference between the two. Seeing as when i got my laptop, i upgraded the bios right after fixing the thermal paste issue.
Are you going to upgrade to the 5870's as soon as they are released or wait for a weeks and compare them to the 4870s

What about your resource DVD? Does it only have A02 on it?

You have an extreme processor, you should expect one back in return. Ask for the Intel i7-920XM.

My old M17x had the bios on the resource DVD. I can't tell you exactly where on the DVD since I don't currently have it.

Thanks, I hit 14,700 on a crappy fan, i thought it might overheat if i went any higher so i stuck it in the fridge for a while. I think it might be better with an air conditioner as it would likely be blowing directly into the system and not around it.

I need to do a fresh install on my ssd of windows 7. Been dreading that :(

Hopefully that will solve my ATI driver install issues I have been having. I still want to load up the R2 BIOS and try it out as well as these new drivers.

That might help the problem, When you flashed the R2 vbios, whos vbios did you try?

I do not recall who posted it up. Just noted the different VBIOS version and was mainly hoping that something about power distribution (not visible to use) is adjusted to allow further overclocking.

If you have a stock R2 vbios you can post I can give it a go as well. The one I had, i flashed it on and tried loading drivers, everything seemed to load but no CF support - which is obviously a no go.

Here is the file containing both stock and overclocked. The ones that are stock are called bios0.rom and bios1.rom, overclocked are the ones with nbios0.rom + nbios1.rom . http://www.box.net/shared/5x3rkj5jiy
I hope this helps you or any other person.

So that is the vbios exactly as it was pulled using gpu-z or RBE? Straight off the card?

    Thanks as well :)

Just got the system this week and tried a few stock runs, and found my results were ALOT lower than you guys were hitting. Did a tiny bit of overclocking and I'm still seeing numbers 3-4k below what you guys hit. Is the I7 720 the cause?

This is with the cards clocked at 600/1050 with 1.1V

    Specs : m17x-r2, i7 720, 4gb 1033, 4870s in xfire, 250gb 7200rpm.
    Drivers : Ati 10.3
    Bios : A2

    3DMark Score P11407
    3DMarks CPU Score 10607
    Graphics Score 11701

Do these scores seem normal, or am I somehow doing something wrong?

Keep in mind the top scores are highly tweaked systems with OCed 920-XM cpus and the GPU's reflashed.

I didn't know where else to ask about this but here goes, I overclocked the GPUs to 600/1000 to run Crysis Warhead, with everything maxed out smoothly. But for some weird reason the second GPU is never used, does Warhead only use one GPU? Here is a screenshot of temps, along with GPU and CPU utilization.

Does the Crossfire icon come up during full screen while playing? I don't OC but the icon comes up in the top right-hand corner during full screen Crysis (all of them)

Right-click ATI tray icon> ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 > CrossFireX Settings > Show CrossFireX Status Icon. Make sure a check mark is there. Then launch a fullscreen game and see the icon to verify Crossfire is working.

You'll see this in the top right hand corner:

So for the first time since getting them in late January.....I have finally checked out the temps on my 4870s haha (after applying OCZ Freeze as the TIM)

Do these look ok? Was in a room at about 75f with the cryo under the laptop while running FurMark (1920x1200, MSAAx8, extreme burn mode, full screen) for 5 minutes. They are temps I am ok with but figured I would ask

I tried a run with a single 4870, i got around 14.3K, with 27 multipliers. Oced the card to 675/1140. Should i try pushing it even further? I thought the problem with the low scores might be the PSU, not giving the processor, enough power, but with a single card with 5% oc and on 27 multipliers, it should handle that. Not being able to get the full performance sucks!
