Which ATI driver are you using?
-
-
The last one i installed was the 10.3. Are you getting about the same score? Maybe 10.4 can help
ill try it later
-
The only driver working for me is the Dell default driver. I remember when I had my last system I mob modded the desktop 9.12 drivers and that got me the best performance. For whatever reason that doesn't work anymore.
I haven't done any benching yet with the system. Need time to get it all sorted out. -
have you tried using the 10.3, they do not need to be mob modded. I have not noticed Drivers make much difference, probably 200 marks in 06.
-
Yes, 10.3 and 10.4. I can manually update the driver to that version but CCC never works with it.
-
If you mean that it is slow, I noticed that too, but other than that it works fine.
-
No it never starts at all. I'm wondering if this is a new breed of 4870s.
-
What about the 10.5's from strags.com?

Aristotelhs2060 Notebook Virtuoso
guys i need desperately your help. i have one day to select between CF 4870 and single 5870 for my R2 replacement. both for free as its a replacement.
so i need a clear answer what would you select? help! -
Not yet.
A single 5870 can play games with no issues and you can get a second one down the road. That will prevent you from having to sell both your 4870s to get dual 5870s. -
I would get the 5870, for gaming performance as i have not seen many games that utilize both cards.
-
5870 definitely dx-11 and future crossfire option(?).
-
The single 5870 won't have a xfire port though, wouldn't it?
-
Only if they decide to release (develop/test) two different cards which I doubt.
-

OK i ll go for CF 4870 and then buy a single 5870. i wont lose the second gpu. this machine has the space for two gpus and i want make use of them. otherwise i would buy an m15x.
-
im sure its prob somewhere in this thread but im looking at getting bad company 2 and i was wondering how it runs on the m17x. mine is in my sig
-
you can just youtube the video. there are a few.

CodeBreaker, what drivers were you using for you top vantage run?
I think with school wrapping up I may be back into some benching since I will be reformatting as well soon and enjoying some WORKING drivers -
He keeps saying he's using Cat 10.3
-
yup, 10.3 after a clean install of windows, i have not tried anything higher, up until yesterday when i installed the Dell 5870 driver( Which i think is 10.4 or 10.5 ). The only other thing i install is the Alienware command center, just for a few tweaks.

Nice score. Good clock on the 920xm too
-
How are your default gpu clocks 600/1000?
-
Reflashed vbios.
-
Nice score on the cpu Mandrake! To answer s0ysauce45's question he probably flashed the vbios with higher volts and those clocks and increased the rest in windows.
-
Yeah that's what I did.
Going to be the last for me for a while. I got my Asus back up and operational and I'm going to send the M17x back. I'll try to raise that single GPU score later. -
looking good!

Come on now Mandrake....I am pretty sure you are not good at being #2 or #3....when is that 22k score coming out? lol
Load up XP! -
oh yeah...i think that would be a 22k'er there with xp
-
I had a very difficult time just getting the system to boot yesterday even without OC'ing. Unfortunately it's not going to happen.
-
well...that's all bad...
-
I tried installing Xp but for some weird reason it BSODed during the installation, is that normal?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Did you make sure the HDD controller was in ATA mode? XP does not have native AHCI support like vista and 7 do. You have to first change it in the BIOS or slipstream the driver
-
LOL, that is the problem, thanks.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Glad to help
-
welcome aboard mr cook!! seen your name on the list the other day.

Ya Q56_monster said hi too
-
you taking a break from benching?
and how is the m17 running these days?
i grabbed a gateway i3...and just had to bench it out of the box...lol
got a few golds..will work on more later. -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
If you get XP to load, give me instructions. I turned ATA on in the bios, but never go pass the Alienware Head Screen. -

And I could not for the life of me get crossfire working in XP 64-bit on my R1
-
what about 32 bit?
load it up as and ide first, then convert it after to achi.
getting ready to do that very thing myself. (different laptop though, but same concept) -
XP 64bit =
-
i tried to install mine and forgot what i did with the stupid key..haha on me.
-
No technet sub?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I will look into getting a 32-bit key. Think I may only have the option of 32-but through msdn at my school.
-
Im going to try and find a 64bit key because 32bit is just not worth the trouble. I am thinking about removing the main hard drive and putting the second hdd in its place so that i can still use windows 7 later, The last time i did that, i kept on getting BSODs so im going to try it out tomorrow and ill see what happens.
Mandrake, what kind of memory do you have in your m17x? 1066 or Kingston HyperX, those are proabaly the most stable whilst overclocking the BCLK right? -
64bit XP is a poor excuse for a 64bit OS.
-
It might be a poor 64bit os but all i care about is utilizing the 4gigs of RAM. I installed a 32bit windows 7 vlited that only used 2300Mb of the 4gigs
-
Then something else is wrong because the 32bit limitation is still 4GB. Plus you don't need all 4GB. Look back at my screen-shot and look how much memory I was using.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well what I could get a hold of was XP Professional SP3. It did not say 64-bit so I am assuming that it is not 64-bit
