Partner program usually means some people within the company are MS certified. Does it give you access to software?

As far as using operating systems that are easier on the cpu, has anyone ever considered doing 3dmark runs in a very light Linux distribution, assuming Wine (or a similar compatibility layer/program) works with Vantage/06?

Edit: I just remembered drivers for dual cards would become an issue.

What's the highest GPU score anyone got with dual 4870's, on Vantage?

Edit: Never mind, checked on first page like I should have at the beginning.

    Mandrake,

Your scores are killing me. Ain't no way that I'm even coming close.

That said, how do these scores measure up for my R2 with a 720, and 5870?

    5870 is oc to 850 Clock/ 1200 Memory.

    Thanks.

    Dan

    Sorry OC

    850 Clock/ 1200 Memory.

It shows 700 for clock, and 1000 for memory as stock.

Try doing that with Vantage. Easier to get a comparison with just the GPU.

Wow... in these benchmarks single 4870 and 5870 are actually pretty close. It would be interesting to see the comparison in a game benchmark like Crysis (maybe it's a bigger difference there?) - if you have time I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Stock 5870m = OC'd 4870m

that is about your comparison (not factoring in dx11 and things like that)

An OC'd 5870m is king of the mobile gpu world

And for anyone interested, here is a decent comparison between the 5870m and the GTX 285 (perfect test as identical notebooks otherwise)

I can't seem to get the core past 860 or the memory past 1175. Overclocking the CPU doesn't seem to yield any gains in 3dmark06 either.

Hmm... What is my next step then? Device manager shows two GPU's and CCC has the option of CrossFireX checked. How can I test to see if one of the cards is bad? Is there a way to see if the cable is bad (other than taking the laptop apart)? I am very not happy that this unit isn't working after waiting so long for it to come.

Open up GPU-Z and see if it has crossfire enabled.

It should look like this. Your clocks will be at stock values, mine are overclocked.

But should have "Enabled (2 GPUs)" in the ATI Crossfire section.

According to GPU-Z, it is enabled. Do you think it is a driver issue? I have been thinking of doing a full reinstall of everything (and getting rid of RAID 0), but if I don't have too, I would rather not. Might start having R1 flashbacks...

This is stock out of the box Dell. I have no idea. I have tried to install 10.4 mobility drivers and ever time I go back to look, I am back to the original Dell supplied. My 3dmark and Vantage scores are very low, indicitive of a single card test. 11358 3DMark06. P6185 (CPU 12485, GPU 5294) for Vantage. GPU-Z, CCC and device manager all see 2 cards and the two that can report it, both show CFX enabled.

I tried playing a round of Day of Defeat Source, my fps was all over the place. Anything from 10 to over 100. If someone threw a smoke grenade, it was slideshow, 10fps. I don't remember seeing anything saying CF enabled when the game launched (I believe someone said that I should see something to that effect). The game behaved similar to the throtteling issues that the R1 have.

On my desktop, which is of lower spec to even my old R1, I not only out scored it on both 06 and Vantage, but in game, I average 70-299 fps on the same map, with more people. Also, don't have an issue with any smoke. My desktop is SLI with 9600gt's... From what I have read, even lesser R2's should blow my desktop out of the water by at least 15%...right now, I am about 27% less on 06 and 50% less on Vantage (compared to my desktop).

Looking at your scores scook, you have beaten my old desktop by 10% in 06 and 30% in Vantage.

A side note that made me happy... I can use a mouse again and SCROLL! YAY!

Also, I am using a different (more current) version of GPU-Z, but I noticed on the bottom, your image says "ATI Mobility [...] / 4870 x2" Mine does not. But in the box ATI CrossFire, it does in fact say Enabled (2 GPUs)

I did do the powerdrain deal and now the battery is finally showing a percentage reading. Before it was stuck at 100%, then I flashed the Bios to A05 (came with A04) and it didn't see the battery. Now it sounds like a jet when I turn it on, but the fans calm down quickly. Just have sucky graphics performance. Have not tried anything CPU intensive yet.

sounds like a bad driver install. Usually it says 4870 x 2 for cross fire but if you have certain modded drivers it can say 4870.

Open hwmonitor and then open multi-GPU firmark and watch the temps.

I am making assumptions here but this is one way :)

    K-nabeesse,

I'm using the stock drivers, and the AMD GPU clock tool. If I try to go over 1250 on the memory clock, I'll have to do a hard restart. Anything over 880 on the engine clock and I have to hard restart.

Otherwise, it's just like the day that it came from the factory.
