OK, thinking I am getting these ATI drivers sorted, still cannot get CCC to load. Here are my Vantage scores and 06, no OC'ing at all. M17x-R2.

Holy crap 11k GPU? Oops nevermind, I thought i was looking at M15x 5870 benches.

Yes that looks right for out of the box.

Thanks! I know some people were trying to help me sort my issues in this thread and I would like to share how I got everything to work on my machine. I did a full reinstall of the OS following the R2 guide in this forum with the exception of the video drivers. I am on A05 BIOS and could not get any of the ATI package to install (10.4 from ATI, not the Dell offered version). So, first I tried to install the Dell package and then update to 10.4. I could install the Dell package, but when I went to update to 10.4, 1 of 2 things would happen. 1) drivers would not update, stay at Dell stock. 2) would install, but performance would mimic a single GPU even though CF was enabled. I dinked around with it and eventually got it to work like it should.
1. Uninstall everything ATI.
2. Safe mode, Driver Sweeper, remove the rest of ATI.
3. Safe mode again, Device Manager, delete both ATI GPU drivers.
4. Extract 10.4 package (but don't bother installing, will fail).
5. Using the old "have-disk" method, go into Device manager and for the GPU's, click update driver and point it to the directory the 10.4 package extracted too. Have to do it for both GPU's, updater will find the drivers and update.
6. Launch the Dell GPU Driver Package. When it goes to install CCC/HDMI etc., make sure to un-check the included GPU drivers as we want everything else but those. Install.
Now everything works like it should. Stock scores are listed above. Everything about where it should be. I did notice that the 2nd GPU is a tad hotter than the main, but only 3~4 degrees. I can feel the heat on the number pad area, but it is only in the mid 60's when the fans kick in. More often than not, only the mid speed fan kicks in to cool it down. Only running Furmark Multi or the Full Vantage test package did the High speed fan kick in. -
So here's what I got? Not sure how to translate it

Was running in balanced power mode, in High-Performance, did much better. The link above should show my old scores and current. -

I was not trying to claim some record. Did not spend much time optimizing my stock scores compared to my overclocked ones haha
Good job though, it really blew me away how strong these laptops are even at stock speeds when I got my 4870s -
Now that I finally have mine running, it is really nice!

DX11 Benchmark from Futuremark coming soon!
3DMark11
We'll have something new to add to the leader boards once it's finally released. -
that's a good one...lol
with all the people who didn't want to pay for vantage...not sure they have changed their mines to buy 3d11 either...lol
me, im getting my copy once it comes out though. -

Yeah by Q3 all the new mobile cards should be shipping well, so it should be a lot of activity here.

256-bit GDDR5 and 352 cores (an actual GF100 chip)
cooling this all will be another story.....it is 100W (they are not even trying to hide that TDP lol) -

So... No body get the m17x with 5870's yet ? I am curious of what kind of numbers you guys going to achieve

I posted this in another thread, but this looks like a more visited one, so I'll try here.
is it possible to run eyefinity panels with the two 5870s in crossfire? I know that the new HP Envy 17's selling point is that it can run a 5850 and run eyefinity off a laptop.
Would the 2 mobile 5870s (I know mobile GPUs are usually 1/2 as powerful as desktops) be comparable to scores with a desktop 5870 in eyefinity (5040x1050)?
Thanks guys. -

or better yet...which thread to jump in?? -

The M17x W/ 5870s or something like that is where people are posting at the moment. One person had a 13500 GPU supposedly stock pretty much all the others are in the 12500-12700 range for GPU. Not as high as I would expect really...there was also a stock 920xm with dual 5870s in 06 that was over 19k - again though, not sufficient screenshot to prove that it is stock....
I posted an example of a proper screenshot for them -
ill give it a read through. thanks mr cook.

Heres the latest with everything stock 3d advantage 06. I dont even know how to check the ati drivers lol.

I guess I should post my results in this thread. The program settings are default and stock clocks.

Next time, for an official score, you'll need to provide a screen shot of cpu-z and gpu-z along with the score.
-
4.5k for a stock 920XM is ok. That's a good 3DMark06 score for starters!
-
can you overclock your cards Achilleus and put cpuz and gpuz in the screenshot
-
What are you guys using to edit the vbios and changing the voltage and clocks?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I use Radeon Bios Editor (RBE) with winphlash
you can also flash it from a bootable USB stick - some prefer this method -
-
@joker (from the now closed benchmark thread)
Do you think you're score was higher than other because you did a clean install? -

joker said he had a hard time overclocking them using amd gpu tool, so he flashed the cards.
-
There's no point in overclocking the video cards unless you want to improve your benchmark scores. I think tweaking them with stock settings will benefit you more in the long run (for real world applications).
I suppose what I'm going to do is a fresh install onto an SSD and run benchmarks from there. Little things like disabling antivirus and unecessary programs should help a bit. But I'm waiting for the heavies like Mandrake and Joker to really play with the cards, unlocking their true potential.
We must realize that these cards in crossfire are brand new and I'm sure there will be many driver revisions/bios improvements to make them as strong as possible. -
here is my score with cpu overclock.Cant get gpu to overclock my cards without bsod.

Thanks I noticed the stock voltage for the dell 5870 is 1.05 while the asus one is set to 1.15
It's prob the reason why we can't overclock these cards as well as the asus -
It might be a reason therefore we need Dell to fix this issue.
-
So how far has anyone with a 920XM and CF 5870s come along with overclocking? BTW, flashing them is alot better then using amd gpu tool.
-
I cant get amd tool to oc my 4870s at all.?
