That's pretty good Mandrake. That means it should not be hard to go over the 20K mark with some OC on your part.

Quick question, you say first stock run yet I see the CPU at 3.19ghz on your pic.

Ok yeah, I forgot about that... My bad...

It's good to see that stock numbers are basically max OC numbers from the M17X R1.

Wonder how good it will be with the 5870's...

    so...for the "percentage crowd"

how much better is that above a r1?

"To further explain Intel's Turbo Boost Technology on the Core i7 mobile processors, Intel provides this example of how the CPU will automatically combine turbo performance with disabling cores depending on how many threads you are actually using. So with the Core i7-920XM, the CPU will automatically overclock up to 2.26 GHz (up from the base frequency of 2.0 GHz) when you are using all 4 cores. It will then overclock up to 3.06 GHz when using two cores, and all the way up to 3.20 GHz when just using a single core. This is how the Core i7-920XM maintains a max TDP of 55W; by using the power saved by disabling unused cores to boost the frequency of the cores in use, the new i7 mobile processors will put the performance where you need it!"-Legit Reviews

    taken from here..
    http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1084/1/

man, if the real i7's did that...they could beat out all those old gen cpus in the early benchmark programs....lol

    edit:
wondering...if you over clock up to 3.2....will it allow you to run all 4 cores.....something to look into early mandrake.
if what they are saying is true....

GPU is the same but the stock CPU score is 2.5K points higher than the highest QX9300 OC score.

    Still need to play more.

XTU Installs. Let's see if it actually works.

Edit: Nope doesn't start. Using 1.3.9.1 maybe I need to find a newer version.

    Edit2: I'm thinking the issue is Win7 64bit.

    The stock R1 with QX9300 and the 4870 was running 15,900 on 3DMark 2006.

    It's a 15% increase in performance.

I thought my post was quite clear...

    The 3DMark 06 score of my M17X R1 with QX9300 (Stock) and 4870 (Stock) crossfire was 15,900.

Mandrake stock M17X R2 with 4870 (Stock) crossfire and Xtreme 920 (Stock) CPU is 18,373.

That is about a 15% increase in performance.

Are you sure? That is what I remember but I have not checked. If I am wrong then the R2 is even better which is amazing. :D

That would mean a 20% to 25% increase in performance.

I saved my scores let me check them out.

I can't believe it. You are right. 15,900 was GPU stock but CPU at 2.93ghz.

That means the R2 is about 22% better on 3DMark 06 with the same GPUs. That's quite nice and amazing I think.

This announces a 35% increase in performance with the 5870's and even more once Mandrake will have OC everything.

How easy is this CPU to OC? Do you think it is very stable compared to the QX9300?

Did you also OC 5% the GPU or just CPU?

Just the CPU. The bios simply gives you an option of 1%,2%,3%,4% or 5% but then you also can increase the voltage. Lots to play around with and test.

    Haven't tested stability yet.
